Macy's wedding registry dilemma

After deciding on a 45 piece dinnerware set, which was in stock at the store--I physically scanned it into the registry--I went online to admire/update and found to my dismay that the item was discontinued... and there are none available for purchase. I saw a similar item, same pattern but 58 pieces, was available, so I added it to the registry. I left the 45 piece one there, though, just to see what it would do.

At one point, neither of the sets were available, with the note that they have been "discontinued." Now, both are in stock. WTH!? Should I leave them both on until one or the other is purchased, or will I come off as an incredibly ambitious dinner party-thrower?

I had the same problem with Macys!!!!! I requested this nice Samsonite luggage and it would say discontinued, so I deleted it... well then 2 weeks later it was back on the site and my BM bought it all for me... it was frustrating... I would say leave the one you really want on and it will come back in stock.... that is my experience!

Macy's is really bad with this type of thing. They flucuate so much and the prices change drastically from day to day as well. I highly recommend using BB&B instead or Crate & Barrel. We've had nothing but trouble with Macy's.

Keep them both on  until one is purchased.  This is nothing compared to Fortuneoff.....stuff would be discontinued like daily.  Thank god we got our wine fridge though, just before they closed up shop!

We registried at Macy's first. I found think that I loved and I thought were a good price. Soon after egistering things were discontinued or the price would drastically change. We called Macy's and deleted our registry. We ended up starting a registry at Williams Sonoma, Crate and Barrel, and Target. I couldn't be happier with all three of those places!

Allie, both sets are service for 8, one has a few more 'extras' than the other, and both are reasonably priced. Honestly, I don't care for one more than the other, I would just like one of them, lol. I think I'm going with User's suggestion to leave them both on and delete one as the other is purchased... I'm thinking I will probably be a rabid stalker so I should catch it; I just hope that one group doesn't go in for both sets at once, otherwise I'm going to have a return on my hands.

Haha, Denise, they asked us if we were green and I had to suspiciously ask why before the wrapping thing was explained. Sneaky Macy's.

So far, Macy's has been the most annoying and least helpful of the three places we registered. BBB is amazing (especially the headquarters in White Plains-- not too bad a drive and they have EVERYthing in stock and an extremely knowledgeable sales team) and Williams Sonoma is just so fun.

Same thing happened to me with the Samsonite luggage and there are several things that are showing as fulfilled on our registry but we didn't get them.  I guess there's a chance these gifts are still coming, since my shower was on June 6th, but I don't have a good feeling since it was the Macy's registry.

OP- if you don't have a preference, I would do what User says. I did that for something else and of course got both- but returned one (but that was at BBB and I got cash back- wahoo!)

jchristel- Same thing happened to me, although the one who bought it for me was BILs gf who he broke up with so she never came to the shower (obviously) and so I just removed the items and put them back up to reset it.

Registries in general are annoying b/c if someone buys or returns something and doesn't specify that it was from the registry it doesn't come off the registry. Although, I had the most issues with Macy's with this. I think their cashiers just aren't all that knowledgeable. But, if you get something and it didn't come off the registry list (and you have a gift receipt) you can tell them and they will mark it as purchased- I did this at Macy's to get the Star Rewards :-)

You just made me realize I didn't get any star rewards "credit" for 3 of my place settings and a few other pieces.  I registered for them at BBB and my Aunt bought them at Macys.

I was registered at Macy's and then heard (most) of the items I wanted (including my china) was at BBB. I cleared the Macy's one, so my guests can use the coupon for the same exact stuff.

I found BBB to be much more accomodating than Macy's - plus as someone else mentioned, they had the same products (and more) as Macy's and for better prices.  Plus with BBB guests were able to use 20% off where Macy's, you are lucky if you can use a 15% coupon.
