Wedding Woes

Ugh. things Today thus far (and part of last night.)

First Dawg TMI...Sunday she ate something.  I think it was a baby bunny.  Maybe a squirrel.
I have NO IDEA how a crippled dog caught either of these creatures unless the creature decided to throw itself into her mouth.

But we thought we had gotten most of it away from her...Except she kersploded all over the house yesterday.

And the good news is, the Mr. got home first and so drew the cleanup straw (well, good for me.  The Mr. is having a bad week thus far).  But she's still a bit off and now we have to watch to see if she got herself worms.

2-the torrential rain somehow broke our bathroom fan--which we had just re-done w/ roof/siding repairs.  So if you turn it on, it blows the GFI (which is better than burning down the house).   And rain comes down into the bathroom.  Whee.

The Mr. is spending the morning in the itchy insulation filled hotbox attic fixing these. (<see above mentioned lousy week)

3-Buffy has been being *SUPER* difficult recently.  She lost 2 of her 3 bedtime books (I know, not an ideal punishment in many ways, working on that) before we left the house today, and I left her sobbing.  I'm fairly sure the idea of kindy is kinda freaking her out.  *sigh*
Unfortunately, she responds by not doing what she's supposed to and being really really...annoying.

Not 'bad' (well, sometimes ), but dropping into baby talk and demanding attention and being all 'watch this watch this watch this momomomommomomomomomom, look, I can climb over this chair and this couch and bounce off the wall and look at me tornado spin into the coffee table *where she bumps her head a tiny bit and then drama wails for 20 min*"--which totally does NOT make me want to give her more affection because I"m an ass and it is super annoying.

3.5, I still don't know her school assignments/full day vs. half day.  WTF school?

3.75 Buffy's imaginary space-dog-astronaut from mars, OohNeu had a puppy.  It's eyes aren't open yet but it sleeps with her because it's afraid of the dark.

  • I'm sorry about all of it:  the dog, the fan.  Sending you some no-worms vibes.

The saddest thing for me is being annoyed by Wooz, and she's been extra-annoying lately, too.  I remember when she was so tiny and sweet and I had never loved anything so much in my entire life--it was literally inconceivable that I could ever feel anything but rapture looking at her.  Now I'm like "Goddammit, if I catch you swinging from the bed canopy one more time I'm tying your arms behind your back dismantling your bed and making you sleep on the floor until you're 40.  JUST TRY ME."

I wondered if some of it was a bid for attention b/c of DS, but your post gives me hope that it's more of an age thing.  Your momomomomomom is what she does when we pick DS up from DC, and if I don't watch her 13 permutations of cartwheels and handstands from start to finish--because I'm preventing DS from running into the parking lot, for example--she will complain and start over.  "This time, watch me the entire time.  Don't look away, watch the whole thing."  And then off goes DS, again.

BTW, I rarely take away books, but if she's dicking around until it's past bedtime, I make no bones about the fact that we ran out of time for books due to all of the time-wasting shenanigans. ( We've started reading before bedtime now.)

That's actually why we take away books too.  She normally gets 3 at bedtime (and 3 at nap)

If she uses up time (and we're talking copious amounts of time) then the logical consequence is that I don't have time to read books.
But I dislike taking them away in the morning for the evening.

And now, the Mr., who is doing bedtime (since I'm working late) has no books to leverage.  Well, he has one, but, seriously, since the 3rd is the last hint of leverage, you have to start clubbing baby seals with other baby seals to lose that one.

I'm sure they'll get over the super annoying, but I'd SWEAR my kid was a (mostly) normal levels of annoying nearly-5-year-old a month ago...and has morphed into "sweet God in heaven, please strike the creators of Monster High dead and, while you're at it, please make my claims that I am unable to hear whining or feel tugs on my sleeves TRUE for just an hour.  please"
    .
But I've also noticed she's not nearly so annoying out in public as she is with just me.  Which is...also annoying.
  • GBCK, DS did a lot of the same things. He still does, and he's still annoying as fuck sometimes but it's gotten better. He basically went through a phase when he turned 4 where he decided that he wanted to challenge us to see just exactly what he could get away with coupled with this near constant need to be validated. For us, it's Legos and I swear I hated doign it because it made him quiet and he played alone but it had to be done.

The best part is that if I ask DH, he'll admit that DS can be annoying but it's not that bad and I'm like

  • I'm pretty sure the primary reason we own an iPad is to use it as leverage.

I love logical consequences so much.  So, so much.  It's like kid jujitsu, you turn their own energy back on them.  Throwing Legos?  Better put them away until you're "big enough" (that one stings, I know) to play with them nicely.  Losing your shit at bedtime?  You're too tired to behave, you need to go straight to bed.
