Wedding Invitation Postage - 6/1/15 Increase

FYI:  I went to the post office today to get the price to mail two of my international invitations.  While there I decided to verify the postage required for my domestic invitations.  I am glad I did.  Effective TODAY the cost went up 1 cent.  I had already bought postage at 70 cents for each of my invites for an estimate I got at the time I ordered my invites.  Boo!

To top it off the 71 cent wedding stamps were not in yet at the post office I went to.  They will be in by the end of this week or I can order them online which I will probably do.  My invites need to be out by 6/15 so I should be ok.  Conversely I could get the 1 cent stamp to use with the sheets of 70 cent stamps I but they would have a tiffany lamp or bobcat on them.  Now how would that look with a wedding stamp?  LOL!

Re: Wedding Invitation Postage - 6/1/15 Increase

  • worst part is i almost just handed all the invaitions to my postman at work that would not have known about hte increase and they would have all been sent back to me and i would have had to redo all the envelopes with the calligraphy on the outside and new stamps. Good thing i had 2 invatitions myself to mail to euorpe at the post office

OMG this is what happened to me today at the post office. I walked in so excited to send my beautiful invitations out with my 70 cent stamp and they told me I had to put the lamp stamp on it. I was so upset they look so nice and i spent so much to get them with calligraphy on it and now they will have this ugly 1 cent stamp next to it. If i didn’t pay for them and have them on the envelopes already i wouldn’t care. they said i could buy the 71 cent one and put it over the 70 cent one but then i would have to spend over another 100 dollars on stamps again to do that. The man at the counter of the post office felt so bad for me and tried to make me feel better by saying most people will not notice the stamp anyway and i guess he is right lol. this is just the beginning of things to go wrong with a wedding and i guess we just have to get used to it <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

  • I know guests won't pay attention to the postage too but after working so hard to get the invitation done I just want it to look perfect.  Why can't they have a 1 cent stamp with a flower or something, right?  LOL  Oh well.  I will get over it especially knowing that guests will trash the invite at some point anyway.

  • island07b2b. Does this mean I will need to purchase the $.01 as well to cover the cost?

If this is true, I am totally asking them to hand cancel all of my invitations for putting me through this racket!!! I tried to do this with my STD and the postal lady almost went postal on me saying "Really, all of these? We can do some but not all." Uhhh, really!!! It's your job!

@creato2304 - The wedding cake stamp I purchased clearly indicates it is for 70 cents.  If you have the two ounce wedding cake with 2015 on it you should be good to go. Of course, to be sure confirm before mailing.

I never understand why the post office fusses when someone requests hand cancellation.  It is a service they offer, right?  So get over it.  I am not a big fan of my LP requests at work but it is my job so I do it.  Sheesh.  LOL!

  • island07b2b! I noticed that I purchased the forever stamp, so we should be good. Thanks for the post. You get so wrapped up in the details and then something like this comes and throws a wrench into things.

I have been having postage stamp nightmares. I am have a large square invitation that I took to 3 post offices to make sure that they gave me the correct price to mail them....even told them that I was mail them the mid-to end of June. The price to mail each one was 1.19....so it was going to take 3 stamps to get to that price....I was feeling very stressed out about that...love my dad, he told me to go stamps.com and order "custom stamps". I ordered them for 1.20 just to make sure with our engagement photo on them it was only 30.00 more than the post office.....if anyone else was nuts and ordered an odd size invite.

  • Just found out that I have the $0.70 stamp and not the forever stamp! I haven't put them on the envelopes just yet so I am wondering if they can buy them back? Going to have to pay them a visit today to find out.

On another note, are you ladies placing a postage stamp on the inner envelopes? I have heard that some have opted out of doing this. The last wedding I was invited to, they had their guests pay for their own postage to RSVP. Is there etiquette for opting to do this?

  • I got caught in this.  All my invitations came back in a box...thankfully the post office stopped them before they all got delivered.  I had the cutest cake stamps and had to add a second cent stamp, but at least they had a nice one with a dove on it.  Didn't get the look I wanted, but trying to to sweat the small stuff!
