And the tolls.  OMG the tolls are fucking expensive.  We are talking like $14 (since we normally have a rental car and pay cash).   If you have EZ pass it's $9.75 for off peak and $11-something for peak.   At east they only collect leaving NJ, not leaving the city.
Peak and off peak is such a strange concept to me.  I have not been on the NYC/NJ or DE tolls, but I have been on expensive turnpikes before (PA, OH) but I'm always shocked at how Chicago's is relativity cheap.  I don't think there's a toll around here more than $1.90 (but I also have an ipass and don't really pay attention to exact prices)

I complain everytime we go to Chicago because the toll prices seem to always go up, but I would be living paying the NJ/NY ones others metioned. ouch

DE tolls are not too bad.   A buck or 2 here and there and that is only on certain sections of i-95 (south of wilmington) and route 1.   It's been years since I hit that part of 95.   I hit the route 1 when I visit my parents

On the NJ turnpike  From exit 1 to exit 13 is about 99 miles and it costed about $9 or so.  The bridges is to NYC is what cost the $14.  Driving from my sister's to MIL costs us at least $25 in tolls (think there is another random toll somewhere over there too).    At least NJ has cheap gas, even on the turnpikes it's not too bad (compared to other states in the area).

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
