Talk about your bridal shower here!

Happy shower season! I'm guessing that if someone is throwing you a shower, it is probably this month, next month, or in Sept.

Mine is August 23. My mother and sister (MOH) are throwing it for me. Invitations just went out and people are already buying stuff off the registry!!! I can't help but to look even though I know I should just wait. :)  The "theme" is brunch and bubbly and my FI and I will be arriving together shortly after the shower starts (like 5 minutes after... I kind of hate when you have to wait forever for the guest of honor). I already told my bridesmaids I hope for a quick gift-opening process so that I can spend more time with the guests, and we told the groomsmen to feel free to show up toward the end. I'm getting my hair done that morning and am going to go find a dress soon! Should be a fun time... I can't wait!

Re: Talk about your bridal shower here!

  • Yay!  I am super excited about my shower as well :)  Mine is August 15th.  My bridesmaids are throwing it for me at my mom's house with some help from mom/FMIL.  Invitations went out a few weeks ago and we've also had a lot of activity on the registries too!  I know, it's hard not to look but I like to check it and (privately) squee over it.

The girls have kept all of the planning details a secret from me, so I know nothing about the theme, food, etc... though I do have a couple of ideas as to what they may be planning.  My FI will be out of the country during my shower which I was initially bummed about but have decided it's no big deal.  You also totally gave me the idea to get my hair done that morning - I may need to schedule a blow-out at the salon!

My bachelorette was this past weekend and it was AMAZING!!!  I had the absolute best time and the girls blew me away with how much they did for me.  This whole process has made me feel so lucky to have the friends and family I have in my life.  The next day I woke up like a little kid the day after Christmas - I was so sad it was over!

  • This is when we, as the brides, need to really start to enjoy things-- especially if we have been stressing!

I had my bachelorette weekend at the end of June-- me and 9 of my closest girls went to Disneyland and had an absolute blast! My sisters organized everything and it was great.

My lingerie shower is this Saturday and it is Mad Men themed. Everyone is dressing up in 1960's attire. I've got a pretty awesome group of girls who are actually willing to do this. I am really looking forward to it.

My bridal shower will be on Sunday August 30th and it will also be a bridal brunch. Don't know many other details aside from that though! Looking forward to all of it and the distractions from the stress these events will provide. YAY.
  • I'm pretty nervous about mine. I honestly didn't think anyone was throwing me one but that's because it was supposed to be a surprise. My fiance ended up telling me and he made me promise to act surprised. I think I can do that and I honestly know nothing more than the weekend it's supposedly happening. He probably shouldn't have told me but the poor guy was getting like a constant stream of texts about it and he just got overwhelmed and didn't know what to do. Honestly I don't know why someone would throw a surprise shower, I mean not telling me the theme or w/e fine but what if I didn't know and thought I was just getting lunch with a friend and show up in like sweat pants and no makeup or something... But now I'm just stressing on what to wear b/c I need to look like I don't know and yet I still want to look nice.

This is why I don't understand surprise showers!  I am sure it will be lovely and you don't need to stress out, but the outfit thing would be getting to me too.  I think you should dress nicely but somewhat casual, and maybe have your FI in on a plan to bring you a nicer outfit.  Maybe he can casually mention to the hosts that he knows you would want to look your best for your shower, and suggest that he or they drop off a dress or something at the shower location beforehand so you can change into it once you're there and "realize what's going on".  You can pick out the outfit and he can just tell them he knows you love this dress and he sneaked it out of your closet for you.  I don't think fibs like these ever hurt anyone :)

  • I'm nervous about mine, too. I wasn't planning on having one, but then my mom and sister really seemed to want to throw me one (I live pretty far from them, so they haven't been able to help much with wedding planning as they would have liked, so I let them do this). I'm super grateful they're doing this for me, don't get me wrong! But I decided to keep it small and only invite my female relatives/best friends/his sisters and close aunt (mother is no longer with us), and now it seems that some drama is starting on his side because I didn't invite everyone.

But anyway... my sister is throwing the shower at the restaurant she works at, and the food is really good so I'm very excited! Other than that... I know nothing!
  • I am so excited about my shower! I have had my theme in mind for years now and it's finally happening thanks to a few of my bridesmaids and my mom. I love all things Disney, so it was only fitting for me to do a tea party with small hints of Alice in wonderland. I am a little nervous because besides knowing the theme, my bridesmaids have kept everything else a secret from me. But I trust them and know everything will be amazing and awesome and just fun. My shower is August 29th and I keep counting down the days because I am excited for the events to start! It has been drama free so far and I hope it stays this way. I am excited to hear how all of your showers go! Time for some fun for us crazy stressed brides
  • Well, I'm a little opposite from you guys. My aunt offered to pay for my shower and throw it for me but she likes to "wing it" and it really gave me major anxiety. My shower is August 23rd, I've already picked out the games, made a timeline, and started receiving my RSVP's. I know I'm not the one who is supposed to be in charge but no one else wanted to step up to take care of the little details - so I did. My aunt picked my venue, the food, and is paying. My bridemaids are each bringing 1 gift for the games we are going to play.

The venue is actually pretty awesome. She rented a boat that holds up to 200+ people with both an inside and upper deck for a 3 hour cruise on the river. We are getting married at a boat club on a small lake so it goes perfect with our venue. August 23rd- please hurry up! My registry had 9 out of 45 items purchased!!! :D

I really wish I never got involved with the shower but it's hard when you have so many people who are involved and they don't know eachother.

  • My shower is this Sunday, August 16th. my MOH and FMIL are hosting. I am excited, all I have to do is pick out my outfit. only 2 things were purchased off the registry, but it is a small one, since we live together for the last 3 years, and I have lived on my own for the last 12 years... we don't need much...

I know that the theme is "preppy navy and pink" my MOH was nervous since I am doing gray and blues that I wouldn't like that she used blue, I assured her this is her party to throw and do not mind.

she is asking all the guest to bring their favorite dish and the recipe, so she can make me a book of recipes, since I love to cook!

I bought hot pink shoes to fit in the color scheme because I had already planned on wearing my white Tulle skirt I made and a navy top, and of course I take every chance I get to buy new shoes.. I NEEDED them.... lol here are examples of the outfit I plan on wearing.. I thought about a statement necklace to match the shoes..

  • I was really looking forward to my bridal shower back on August 8th, my bridesmaids, my mom and my future mother-in-law put together a beautiful shower, out of 40 people invited, 3 people came (outside of the maids and moms)!!! I tried to enjoy my day as best as I could, and even afterwards, I told them I had a good time because they put in a lot of time, effort and money. It's been over a week and I still get teary eyed at the fact that no one came to the one pre-wedding event that was suppose to be so special and have my family and friends with me to celebrate and have a good time. It's really put a spoiler on my mood and I don't know how to get out of this funk.

Sorry to hear that! I would try hard to not take it too personally. August is a TOUGH time of year to host events. Trust me, I'm an August baby and growing up I always got really sad when my friends would decline birthday parties because they were on vacation with their families. Even now as an adult, several of the girls invited to my bachelorette party last Saturday couldn't make it because they had other obligations. Your shower on August 8th was a Saturday and I bet a lot of your guests had weddings to attend, or had previously made vacation plans, etc. It's a popular time of year and a tough day to have a bridal shower. I'm sure the guests who couldn't make your shower were sorry and I bet they're all excited to attend your upcoming wedding. :)

peachy13 has a good point about not many people making it. If you look at my calendar from the end of July to the beginning of September you'd think I have to schedule in time to sleep. Summer months are super busy. I'm sure it wasn't anything personal to you.

  • My shower is today! I'm so excited! :) Happy Shower Day to any other ladies celebrating today!
  • My first one is in 2 weeks!  I recently got the invite and found out my MOH chose my wedding venue to have it at so I'm super excited!  I'm assuming it's not in our reception room but I'm so excited for it!

I had my shower this past saturday and it was beautiful.  My bridesmaids did such an amazing job.  However, my mom and sister got into a huge fight and slaps where thrown and it was just so embarrassing.  It was not even at their own house (it was at my friends), so that put a little damper on it.  Kind of upset they could not have waited until another time to hash out their issues.  But other than that I had a great time with some of my amazing friends and family.

omg! that's crazy and I'm glad you still had a lovely shower. Do your mom and sister normally fight or was this an unusual event? I would be tempted to talk to both of them to make sure that doesn't happen at your wedding!

They have been arguing for the last two weeks over an issue that I see is silly but they have continued to drag it out.  If in the next two weeks nothing changes, then I am going to tell them both that they better keep it together at the wedding.
