So, we are going to have a dessert table/buffet at our reception with Cupcakes, cookies, candy and some other items.  Has anyone done this and have any Tips/Tricks to making it go smoothly??  Thanks in advance!  =)

    Hi there,

You could take a look at http://www.buttercreambride.com for some fun ideas for 'alternatives to wedding cake'.  We did a pastry buffet at our wedding and asked family members to bring their favorite cake plate to help give the dessert table a special, personal touch.  We also used a small tier wedding cake as a centerpiece for the dessert table.  One tip- if you have have a variety of mini desserts, plan for every one to take at least one of each!  We ran out early because we didn't expect people to enjoy so many!!

Hope you have a great wedding!
    Micky

We had something like this at our reception.  It was called a Venetian Hour.  It was brought out around 9 p.m. and contained canolis, torts, cheesecakes, flavored coffee, etc.  It was really nice - guests loved it.

Tips/Tricks for making it go smoothly?  Not sure I can help there because our Reception Coordinator took care of the whole thing - set-up, refill, etc. but I suggest not putting it out when you are giong to be doing something important that you want guests to watch.  For example, I had an unveiling ceremony at my reception (an orthodox tradition) and I put my Venetiation out about 15-20 min before I started my ceremony so that guests had time to grab a bite to eat and be settled to watch what was going to happen.

We are doing this at our wedding, too! In addition to a (professionally done) wedding cake, we will be having all kinds of home-made desserts. Although it was my idea, my family has laid down the law and has forbidden me from doing any of the work. So, I guess that the best advice I have is not to do any of the baking yourself because you will have enough to worry about/occupy your time. Good Luck!!

Since you're DIYing I'd recommend having items that you can make easily or in advance.  For example, some cookies still taste great even if they've been frozen and then dethawed.

My friend did a huge chocolate fountain (someone has to be there to put more chocolate in) and to keep it upstocked.
