My fi's mother left the family when he was 3 years old and he and his father have had a tough time for years. Without getting into any details, the effort that his father went through during my fi's youth to make sure he had an amazing future is amazing and almost inhuman. This is a man who sacrificed almost everything he had. So naturally, there won't be a mother-son dance but we were wondering if there's an amazing, original way to include and acknowledge everything this amazing man has done.

Re: Including groom's father

  • If your FFIL gives a toast, your FI can say something in response about how much he appreciates his father's love and care for him.  It's not "original" but it could well be "amazing."

  • In some cultures, both the bride and groom are escorted down the aisle by both of their parents (or whichever one is in their lives and able to). Would your FI want his father to walk with him during the processional?
  • I think both are lovely ideas already! Thank you, I've written them down.
  • His father could be his best man. Fi could set aside some father/son time - fishing, bowling, concert, dinner, museum- whatever they like to do. A note to his dad about how much he appreciates all his dad has done for him would mean a lot to his dad.

I love the fact that you have such obvious admiration for your FFIL. Your FFIL would love to know that.

FFIL could be one of the groomsmen.

A note of thanks for raising the man you love to your FFIL would be lovely.
  • There is no doubt in my mind that he (FFIL) is your FH's "best" man.
