MOG WANTS TO WEAR SNEAKERS!!!!

Re: MOG WANTS TO WEAR SNEAKERS!!!!

  • OP, what did the MOB and MOG wear as shoes at the last wedding you went to?

What did the bride's shoes look like?  What did the bride's dress look like?

"Love is the one thing we're capable of perceiving that transcends time and space."

  • I've been trying to remember what shoes my MIL wore to my wedding. And for the life of me, I can only remember the shoes I wore, what H wore (we picked them together) and perhaps what the BMs wore? And that's only because all the BMs asked about shoes colors. I think they wore black?

Anyways, all that to say that you won't remember what people wore on their feet the day of your wedding. Let your FMIL wear what will make her comfortable. Maybe shop for really nice looking sneakers with her if she wants that. But don't make her wear something that might hurt her or limit her enjoyment of the day. She's probably feeling self concious about the decision since she said something to you about it. Just reassure her that anything she is comfortable with will be fine and let it go.

Agreed and mine was less than two weeks ago.. the only shoes I remember is my MOH and that is because we can share shoes, and I will borrow them eventually..

  • Look I would remember my MIL wearing sneakers to my wedding.  Sorry, but I would.  Mostly because it's not the standard footwear attire for a wedding.

That said, who the hell cares if you do remember?  She has an issue, why in the world would you want her to wear something that is not comfortable or might cause her to fall?    Seriously, it's not a big deal.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • H's best man changed into sneakers right after the ceremony.  So there are a bunch of pictures with him in a tux and white tennis shoes.  Did I care?  No.  Does it ruin the pictures? No.  Do I think anyone else noticed?  No.  And if they did, who cares?

They are just shoes.  No one cares about her shoes, your shoes, or anyone else's shoes.

One of my brother's did the same thing.  And the other brother who was in his Army Mess Dress, went back to his hotel and changed into a button down and khakis for the rest of the night.  Nobody cared.

  • I am assuming my father will wear black sneakers to my black tie wedding. Diabetics don't have great feet. I am looking forward to us dancing and smiling. Not dancing and wincing in pain.

He has a pair of black sneakers my mother has polished to look shiny for events before.
  • Hell, even I had a pair of sneakers handy at my wedding in case I decided that my shoes were causing too much pain to my feet or back. I ended up not needing them, but I still had them there.

I remember my shoes, DH's shoes (he only owns one pair of dress shoes), one of my BM (she borrowed a pair of my shoes), and one wedding guest that was wearing birkenstocks (not a problem at all, but DH was teasing him that he only owns birkenstocks, so it stands out).  But, I couldn't tell you what shoes anyone else wore.

Well thank goodness it's sneakers and not some ugly ass cane or wheelchair. Then she'd just have to be banned from the wedding! And then you'd have to hire an actress to pose as FMIL.
That's way easier - you just decorate the cane and wheelchair in tulle, but only if you can find it in the right shade of white/ivory/eggshell that compliments your dress.

  • Given my parents' health issues (they could be medical school case studies), I'd just be glad that my parents were there. Compared to that, what they wear is just not important.

One of H's groomsmen did something similar. I guess they were going to leave just after the cake and stuff and so he went and changed into a super hero tshirt, basketball shorts, tall socks and sandals (think the outfit of lots of teenie bopper boys these days except this guy is like 6'5 and almost 40). Well apparently he decided to stick around and keep drinking and his wife couldn't drag him away so we have tons of pictures of him on the dance floor in that outfit with everyone else dressed up in the background. It is sort of weird but whatever.
  • OP you don't get to challenge your MIL's choice of footwear. Really, it's insignificant in the scheme of things and do you really want to be that DIL who cares more about how your MIL looks than your new family's comfort and happiness?
  • Our pastor wore bright orange crocs. I think he did just forget to change shoes, it was no big deal. He was comfy, so I was happy.

  • I wore sneakers to my wedding. White Chuck Taylors.

    Guess I need a do-over.
Me too! Except mine weren't even white. They were teal.  Sigh, I don't know if i can afford a do-over...
Best part - my dress was IVORY, so the sneakers didn't even MATCH!!!

    I know, right?

    Jack and Jills are tacky.

You can get $10K for a kidney on the black market. Your MOH will  do anything for you, inlcuding donating a kidney. Two MOH = $20K. How many best friends do you have?

I wore S.A.S.  old lady shoes to my daughter's wedding.  It was hot as hell in July in Washington, DC, and my feet swelled up like balloons.  Good thing I wasn't so silly as to try to wear something fashionable - especially when my 6'3" son swung me around off the floor to "Cotton-Eyed Joe"
    (Damn!  These are expensive!)

  • You can't tell your FMIL what to wear, and I think it's great that she is going to be comfortable at your wedding.

She even gave you a heads up so you know what to expect. Let this go.

  • There are lots of cute colorful sneakers out there.  Go sneaker shopping with her and have some fun.
