The Walking Dead *Spoilers*

So who watched the premiere this Sunday?

DH and I finally watched last night and were pretty impressed. It was pretty action packed from the beginning. I'm not a fan of going back and forth and the black and white but it was interesting.

I am still surprised Glenn didn't do something about Nicholas but Maggie pointed out that he forgives people and gives them a chance. I don't know if I'd take the chance with someone who tried to kill me though. *shrug*

What did you think?

PS: Did anyone watch Fear the Walking Dead? DH and I did and we actually really liked it.

Re: The Walking Dead *Spoilers*

  • H and I watched it.  I liked how Morgan saw right through Carols act.  And I didn't realize that Pete and Jessie had an older son.  I thought they just had the one.  I guess I must have missed that piece of info from last season.

The residents of Alexandria need to put on their big boy/girl pants and start getting their hands dirty. Rick is right in his thinking that some people will die regardless because they just aren't meant for this type of world.

Overall I thought it was a good episode, but am looking forward to the next one.  I want to know who was blaring that horn.

I also watched Fear the Walking Dead.  I thought it was kind of slow and sort of blah until the final episode when it finally got good.

  • I'm so behind on FTWD, but I did watch the premiere for WD. I really don't like the black and white flashbacks, but enjoyed the episode overall.

I found ftwd soo boring. I guess I'll just need to push through until the end?

    image
  • @teddygirl9 Yeah FTWD starts off super slow. I did think it was interesting because while I'm watching it I can totally see it happening in that way. But the last two episodes are amazing and make it worth it.

  • I kind of think FTWD is actually scarier that TWD, because it feels more... Realistic? Like, it's more relatable to real-life, and it makes a zombie apocalypse seem more feasible. I look forward to the next season of it.

I think it would be really cool to fold FTWD into TWD down the line - like, if only a few characters from FTWD lived, and eventually went east and met up with the cast of TWD.

The writer made a "joke?" about that on the Talking Dead episode they had after the last episode of FTWD.  They were talking about how Madison has a kinda southern drawl occasionally and it's not like we know where she's from.  I think the line was, "Hey, let's go to Atlanta and find my brother, Rick Grimes!"
  • I was very meh about Fear the Walking Dead. I hope it gets better. As for TWD, Rick is on my nerves. I foresee him becoming "the bad guy." The whole thing is very Lord of the Flies to me in that anyone can become savage. Yes, the Alexandria people need to learn how to protect themselves, but who the hell is he to come in and be deciding that no new recruiting will be done, etc. Their group wouldn't be there if they hadn't been taken in. I don't like how he thinks he runs the show everywhere he goes. If not for Morgan and Glen, he wouldn't have survived even his first day out there.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I loved last nights episode.  Action packed pretty much all the way through.  I was not expecting the Wolves to make their appearance, I figured it was going to be a walker invasion.  But when pasta maker lady got attacked I knew that the episode was going to be good.  And yay for Carol being able to be her bad ass self again!

    umm yes to it all!!

I think I said out loud in the moment "finally a walker bites someone!!"

We caught up last night with the first two episodes because we were on a plane, and then cruising for the week so I was super disappointed when I heard the date the premier was coming out! It was worth the mini TWD marathon we had last night! I think the walker invasion is coming. the Wolves may have planned the invasion knowing that the numbers would be down, but I guess that also wasn't the planned time of the walker parade either..

  • We watched Sunday's episode last night. Anyone notice how when Enid shows up at Carl's house, and they are sitting back to back, she started to say something to Carl about "your" compound being too big, so "we" - and then he cuts her off without noticing what she was saying? They made her seem a little mysterious when she showed up, but it definitely seems like she is working with the Wolf...

  • FTWD felt like a CW spinoff to me. It had its moments, but overall it was really cheesy and predictable IMO.

I really like this season of TWD so far. Last season was a bit slow. They're bringing in more symbolism again. There's that part where Deanna gets into the truck and she's behind shattered glass, and I thought it was interesting how Carol and Morgan crossed paths at the end. When Jessie kills that wolf, it seemed like she was doing to her what she'd always wanted to do to Pete but never got the chance.

Wondering when they're going to go into Morgan's backstory. They've been showing him as very conscious of his choices, and he told the wolves that if they choose this life they will die. Makes me wonder if at one point he was very wolf-like and then had some sort of spiritual/moral shift.

like more than they already did in the first season? I feel like his consciousness of his choices is because of the guilt of him blaming him self for the death of his wife and son. he stayed behind because of his dead wife and didn't go with Rick to save his son.

Interesting I didn't catch that! I think she took Judith, and the Wolf either planned the attack when the heard was going by, or they knew the group would be split with the others being out of the compound.

  • I refuse to believe what happened on last nights episode.

  • I refuse to believe what happened on last nights episode.
Ugh. I believe it. It's been too long since they killed off a main character. The Talking Dead read a statement from the creators saying we would see the character in some form (either a flash back, or in true time as some or all of him) again for closure. To me that reads like we will see him as a zombie next episode.

TBH I thought at the end they were about to kill Rick off too, which would have really pissed me off. You can't kill off two main characters in one episode, after there have been virtually no important deaths in at least a season.

I am pretty sure that a mutiny would have occurred if both Rick and Glenn got killed in the same episode.  And I don't foresee them killing Rick off any time soon.

I figured that Glenn wasn't dead dead but is going to be a walker since in the "in memoriam" part of the talking dead they didn't include Glenn, which leads me to believe he is not fully gone yet. But the whole time I was watching it I was thinking 'This has to be a dream.  This has to be a dream.'

I had read spoilers talking about the Nicholas/Glenn scenario last week, but most of the fan sites were trying to disprove it by pointing out that Steven Yeun has been on set this whole time and that maybe the spoiler sites got it wrong or only half right.

Glenn was by far my favorite character, though not utilized enough in the last couple of seasons, imo.  The only way he could have survived is if Nicholas fell on top of him and that was his blood and guts on top of Glenn and the Zombies somehow managed to ignore Glenn long enough for him to escape under the dumpster and wait it out.  I realize this is fiction, but I can't possibly imagine how that could happen.  But he'll likely be flashback Glenn or a zombie and won't be in the memorium until one of the characters confirms he's dead.

Ooooh, maybe they'll find walker Glenn and then Maggie will keep him as a pet walker like when we were first introduced to Michonne.
  • I think it'll be another 2 episodes before we find out Glenn's fate. This season they tend to split between Alexandria and the crew outside the gates. He's gotten out of some bad situations in the past and I hope this is another one he gets out of.
  • Agree w/ Knottie#s, looks like this week's episode is Morgan storyline and I think before we saw him again last season, so we probably won't find out about Glenn for 2 weeks.

I am also heartbroken if Glenn is really dead. I haven't cried on the show since Hershel but I was bawling last night. I've read the analyses and see both sides, from Gimple's note it could be he's a walker next episode we see him, but also want to believe that he's been seen with Jesus and that Nicholas maybe fell on him. :( Can't wait for Sunday, 90 minute episode!

  • I wish I could believe Glenn ISN'T dead, but him being on-set doesn't mean he is alive. He will probably be seen in flashbacks, and I am guessing we will find out his fate when the crew goes looking for him and find him as a half-eaten zombie.

H thought that maybe Nicholas fell on top of Glenn, and that we see the zombies eating Nicholas. Maybe that's true, but once they finish eating Nicholas they will move on to Glenn - I see no way he could have escaped this situation unless it was a dream, which I think would be a super lame cop out.

Also, the show regularly kills off main characters, so I see no reason they would try to fool us on this one... I get wanting to believe it was fake, but the writers have no qualms with crushing everyone's dreams, so I think Glenn is truly gone.

  • @madamerwin I totally see all your points and realistically agree with most of them. Devil's advocate, though:

    1) If he's in flashbacks, how is he in scenes with Jesus? (character from the comics if you don't read them, and he hasn't been introduced yet)
    2) In Atlanta he and Rick made it out because they covered themselves in blood and guts, so if he's covered in Nicholas' after the walkers eat him, they could theoretically move on

I really hope they don't do a dream or hallucination thing, agree that'd be a cop out. And it is more than likely he's dead. I'm just rationalizing because I'm in denial.

Yeah the writer from Lost said the same thing on The Talking Dead.  He said something like "I doubt they would do something like Dallas did with Bobby showing up in the shower and all of the stuff that happened had been a dream."

And what was frustrating was that Nicholas didn't really fall on Glenn, Glenn tried to catch him. Glenn, when someone shoots themselves in the head, there is no point trying to keep them from the walkers.

  • My mouth was wide open throughout the entire scene. Watched it with my fiance and I had no clue what to say except "Oh my god, oh my god, OH MY GOD". But the more I think of it the more I think he made it out, somehow. I'm a big fan of the comics so I know Glenn is destined for something... big. But I don't think he is meant to have a death that is so unconfirmed.

    1) No idea - I missed where it said he was in scenes with Jesus? Or was he just seen on set after Jesus has been introduced? Could mean something, could mean nothing.

    2) This is SO true, and not something that occurred to me! That is literally the only way I can see how he could have escaped. I still think the chances are slim though. ETA: I just realized the problem with this - Glenn and Rick covered themselves in rotten zombie guts, but if it WAS Nicholas being eaten, Glenn would have been covered in fresh, human guts. I don't think that would stop zombies.

I'm going to go ahead and continue to dream crush - I think Glenn is dead. Hopefully I am wrong.

@Maggymeow - The show seems to take creative license over the book... There are many characters who have died in the show but who are still alive in the books, and vice versa. So I have a hard time believing that just because his story line in the book continues that the show wouldn't kill him off.

    Stupid Walking Dead.

  • I agree it would be pretty boring if they went with the comic for everything. As an example I'm happy they didn't follow Carol's story line cause I love TV-Carol so much. And I'm glad they killed off Andrea in the show.

If Glenn is dead, it would mean another major charatcer will die in the hands of Lucille. But I wonder if they would have two big characters die in one season like they used to. That list is getting smaller and smaller.
I do believe Glenn is alive, and I believe there's plenty of clues to prove that, but I'm also in denial, ha ha *Cries*.

P.S: I can't wait for Jesus (Paul Monroe) to show up! He's probably my favorite character of the series.

  • I have been dying to read this all day, just watched this eposode. There is too many questions he comes back either as a walker, or as a flashback.. They have to find him no one will give up on him coming back until they find him.. There was walkers inbetween him and the dumpster so I am thinking that he may have gotten trampled if he tried to wiggle under the dumpster, and the guts were what the walkers were eating so I am not sure how safe he was under him unless he miracously doesn't get bit ANYWHERE he is gone..

  • I thought of the covered in guts plan that occurred in the first season, but I think that worked because it made them smell like the walkers, who at that point are clearly the embodiment of death and decay.  Since Nicholas never turned and was freshly dead, I'm not sure that would work in this case for Glenn.  You never know.

However, after watching the scene again, I'm pretty sure Glenn isn't the one being eaten in that scene - he still looked pretty lively and animated as we saw nearly all of the small and/or large intestine being unraveled and a shocking amount of blood loss rivaling a volcanic explosion.  Admittedly, I'm not an expert at exactly how long one can live whilst having their intestines eaten, but I can't imagine it's very long. Doesn't mean he's alive when all is said and done, but I think it's inconclusive at this point and on purpose.

As much as I really really do not want Glenn to die and hope that Steven Yeun stays on my television a bit longer, I do think it's time that we have a death that just never gets resolved for the characters.  I think that would be fitting to their reality.  With so few survivors to serve as live witnesses and walkers eating people, it's reasonable that at some point, something happens to one of them and no one is there to witness it and they are left wondering and hoping.  So far, I think we've gotten resolution to most of those situations (Sophia, Beth).  It probably won't happen because it would be too frustrating to viewers to not have closure.

Also, as much as I was excited for Morgan coming back at the end of last season, I'm kinda over it.  Like the actor, bored with the moral superiority of the character.  I hope next week isn't just 90 minutes of Morgan like the sneak preview clips imply.  I'm not sure I want 90 minutes of Morgan.

I was so mad at the ending of the most recent episode.  There was a stairway into a building they could have taken and also, they could have covered themselves in walker guts before getting so trapped and been fine.  I didn't watch it, but apparently on The Talking Dead there was no memorial segment for Glenn but there was one for Nicholas.  The angle and that sort of thing of when Glenn was likely eaten did look off to me, but the show was not always the best at getting stuff right (remember the vehicle falling off the bridge?).  Also, I heard that the actress that played/plays Enid said that the audience will be "pleasantly surprised" if she does return.  There are certainly a lot of fan theories, one of which is that she would come save him somehow.

Apparently next episode is mostly Morgan, who I don't really care about, honestly.  But maybe since Herschel is gone and probably Glenn, he will be good for Rick to have around as a sort of voice of reason.

Also, why did Michonne and that other guy not put the man being eaten alive out of his misery?  they easily could have shoved a knife through the fence then kept moving.
    image
  • I was surprised to see how many people thought that Glenn isn't really dead, but it made me think. It was kind of a lame and anticlimactic way to let a major character die. But I don't see how he could get out of that situation, either, and I don't think he would be screaming like that if he wasn't being eaten and there was any hope of getting away. IDK, killing off a major character is staying true to the nature of the show and as much as I want Glenn around, I think it would be kind of lame if they were all JUST KIDDING! Original characters are totes safe!

If he is gone, I wonder how the rest of the crew will find out. He was only with Nicholas and they're both dead, so I hope they can get some closure, especially Maggie.

Also generally they're pretty good at making things look realistic but the sausage-link guts really bothered me. Maybe I'm the only one. There was a zombie with it's rib cage exposed that looked really cheesy, too.
    image
  • So I finally caught up on the past two weeks and all I can say is I'm ready for next week. I hope Glenn is alive, but I honestly think he is dead.

I was really glad they devoted an episode to show Morgan's story and how he caught up with Rick's group.

Soo Steven Yuen's name wasn't in the opening credits of this past episode...

This one was probably one of my favourite episodes to date. Less about zombies, more about life after zombies.
