Do you believe in ghosts?

Getting ready to go on a ghost tour in a historic area. I am a skeptic and do not believe in ghosts but I'm looking forward to the tour anyway.

My family (who are with me tonight) loves to watch Ghost Hunters, etc. on TV and as far as I can tell are believers.

How about you?

Re: Do you believe in ghosts?

  • Yup.  And I love Ghost Tours.  My first ones were in Edinburgh, which is the perfect city to do a tour in.  They're a lot of fun

  • I believe in spirits and energy lingering around so I guess I believe in ghosts. I've been on a few ghost tours and each of them incorporated local history which I found really interesting. So even if you don't believe in ghosts, hopefully it will be fun and educational!
  • Define "ghosts".

  • Ghost walks are fun because they combine little history anecdotes with dumb drama.

  • I do, but my husband does not.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Yes, I do. I save 'Ghost Hunters' on my DVR to binge watch.

  • I believe in something.  I have had a few personal experiences that have convinced here is "something" else, whether actual ghosts or lingering energy/spirits like PP said, I don't know.  I have been on several ghost tours and though the history told is interesting, they are far too trumped up for the tourist factor.

I think shows like Ghost Hunters and the like are also enhanced for good television and are 99% bullshit.

  • I believe in a high possibility of something... but don't think I have any personal proof.   But, I do enjoy ghost tours.  DH and I enjoy going on them whenever we are in "haunted" places.  Last year we did a ghost tour in New Orleans then stayed at the Bourbon Orleans, which is supposed to be the most haunted hotel in NOLA.  The tour was interesting with some great stories and history.  But, at the hotel that night DH swears that the shower turned on while he was in the bathroom.  It was middle of the night and I was asleep, so I don't know.  We also did a tour at the Birdcage in Tombstone, AZ a few years ago... 26 people have died in that building. It was a lot of fun, but neither of us had any experiences there.  But, we get get lots of photos with orbs (maybe ghosts, maybe just dust) and I did get one photo that has a mist looking blur across it. Real or not, it can still be fun.

    not believe.
  • I'm in the "If you're out there please don't fuck with me" camp.

I went to see the Warrens when I was at UConn.   They're CT experts on the occult and they will scare the pants off you.

I don't like to be spooked or scared so why I let my friends convince me to go as a freshman I have no idea.

Now, I just want to be able to do my thing in peace.

ditto! I don't know anything about the Warrens but it sounds like if I'd gone to that I wouldn't have slept for days.
  • I think anything is possible!

  • I don't think I believe in ghosts because I haven't experienced anything.  DH's office is allegedly haunted.  A group of ghost hunters came in to check it out and everything.  It was interesting to hear what they claim to have discovered.  There were 3 ghosts total, one gave his name,

Either way, I LOVE ghost tours in cities with history.  I make DH go on them whenever possible on vacation.  I would love to go on one in New Orleans, that must be crazy.  We have done Boston, Nashville, San Antonio.
  • I just feel like the human brain is wired to find patterns and reasons/explanations where there are none. So when a ghost "gives his name" and that kind of thing, I think it's someone who is looking for a name and finds one, if that makes sense.

On the tour, my mom said she thought she heard a man say "Sorry" but she turned and no one was there. To me... what's more likely, that a ghost manifested its voice, or that in a group of 20+ people someone jostled into someone else, apologized, and because of wind/acoustics it sounded like it came from near her side?

I always think about people who see the Virgin Mary or Jesus in toast and stuff. That image matches one they already have in their brain, so when they see a randomly-toasted pattern on a piece of bread that resembles that picture, it becomes that picture in their minds.

I've also read some super cool stuff about faulty electrics/appliances causing some of the ghosty phenomena... for example, a machine that is emitting a noise at a certain undetectable pitch can cause our brains to interpret that noise in a way that gives us chills or makes us feel cold, things like that.

I did have fun on the tour, though. We heard a bit of history and it was nice to be outside in the fall weather!

Especially since they always seem to see White Jesus. ;)

  • I don't believe in ghosts but I've had freaky things happen to me and my family in my life that should've convinced me otherwise. Maybe I just don't want to believe in them o_o

  • So, I was cleaning my horses stall last night, first time that I am there for a significant time by myself, there is usually at least one other person there.. I kept seeing "people" walk past the stall, it was super creepy, usually you see shadows in the arena while you are riding, the office door is in the arena I have seen "people" walk out of that too. until coming to this barn I didn't believe, but I think I am changing my mind..
