Favor decision

Re: Favor decision

  • Hello, I'm a little conflicted on our wedding favors. My fiancé and I are both double Noles, we met as undergraduates at FSU, he then obtained his Masters from FSU and I'm currently a law student there. We collect Koozies which a lot of our close friends and relatives know and we found really cute and fun Garnet and Gold Seminole Koozies with a cute wedding saying. Our colors are mint and gold though and so they don't really tie in. Also the majority of our guests didn't go to FSU. Do you think people will appreciate the sentiment or will it just seem like it in no way fits? We have also found cute Koozies that aren't FSU that we can have made in mint and gold. Ultimately I know wedding favors are for the guests and I want them to enjoy it!
The only wedding favors I have ever seen that people LOVED was food. I have a thousand koozies and zero use for them. People who use them, already have them.

  • Thanks for the response! We are actually also doing a food favor, salt water toffee or cookies, along with personalized glasses. Koozies are just in conjunction.
  • I would just ditch the koozies if you already have yummy food favors lined up

So, you want to spend additional money on something that is meaningless to pretty much everyone but you to add on to something that is completely optional to begin with?  If you're swimming in money, have at it, but personally I wouldn't.

Admittedly, I'm not a fan of koozies to begin with, but the maybe 2% chance there is I would actually use one is dropped down to 0% chance of me using one with a wedding saying on it featuring a university I didn't attend.

ETA: If you like them and collect them, why not just buy two for you and your FI?  Why must they be favors?

What do th glasses say? Like personalized with the guest's info? Or yours?

Save your money on the kooziekoozie a and glass. If someone is s koozie user, they already have one. And most people don't want one random glass that's not part of a set.

  • I like koozies.   I have a lot and do not mind more.

That said, I'm a Clemson Fan.  I would trash any FSU item given to me.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Yes to the food favor, no to anything personalized, and no to the koozie. Stick with the food favor and leave it at that.

  • It sounds like you have been more than generous with the gift favors already. I know the Koozies probably mean more to you, and you love them and want to share them with people but save your money. Wedding budgets are tough enough. If you still feel the need to get them - maybe buy a set to have for when you host friends at your place as a new married couple.
  • Yep. No interest. I don't use coozies and certainly wouldn't use one with a logo of a university I didn't attend.

It sounds like you have plenty for favors already. Can you use the money instead to hire the Florida State mascot to show up at your wedding? Friends of ours did this with the mascot from their university and it was a HUGE hit and super fun. The bride surprised her groom with it since they both went to school there and met there, and he loved it.
  • I despise koozies, so big thumbs down from me.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I don't use koozies, so this wouldn't be a good gift for me.
  • Hate koozies. I'd leave it behind.

OFT: My H is a UC fan, If we went to a wedding and they handed out OSU Koozies, I am not sure he would even use it that night, or touch it..

But we did do a Koozie with a wedding saying and personalized, and knowing 90% of our guests use them daily and collect them like we do, with the compliments we recieved and people taking home the extras that we had it was a good idea. if your guests might not like koozies, and since you have been generous with the favors already I wouldn't add the koozies in to the mix. I have seen that unless it is food, or a quality item that people will use again then don't do it.

  • Most favors we get from weddings end up in the trash after  a while. Stick with the food.
  • I went to a wedding with koozies as a favor, I think they said something like "To have and to hold, and to keep your beer cold" with the couples names. Something like that. I thought it was really cool at the time as they had a really rustic wedding, gave them many compliments, and then immediately after set it aside and currently have no idea where it is. It just wasn't that special to me.

I mean, when is a wedding favor "special" to every guest? food is even forgotten after a few months for most.. So, Favors are a know your crowd type of thing, if they will love koozies, do koozies. If they would love to take an extra cupcake or piece of cake home, do boxes for cake. If they would love candy go for the candy bar, or packets of specific candy at each chair. The Favors are for your guest, but you can't make everyone happy, so go with what the majority of the guests would like..

  • I have never used a koozie in my life. I have been given 2 koozie favors, I left one at the wedding (camo "the hunt is over") the other is just a design... and is taking up space in a junk drawer in case anyone ever asks for one.. it's been like 3 years, no one has.

Also had someone give a painted glass.. they were cute, but it matches nothing I own and what do you do with one glass?
  • If I were a guest at your wedding, I'm sorry but it would end up in Goodwill bag. Unless you know that the bulk of your guests are into them like you are, they won't be as big of a hit as you are hoping for.
  • We actually love koozies, but would never use one that had the logo of a school we aren't fans of.

  • If you have your heart set on another favor aside from food, I'd go with a more neutral color than the FSU colors (even though I spent a couple of semesters there!).  I think it ultimately depends on your guests.

We had a Halloween wedding in New Orleans, so since open container is okay on the streets of NOLA, we gave them go-cups.  They had a sugar skull on them and said, "Eat, drink and be scary." with our names and wedding date on them.  We also did a candy bar with treat bags.  We still have about 30 cups left or so, but I was happy so many people utilized the cups.
  • This is a case of knowing your crowd. Some weddings I have been to, I know koozies would be a big hit. At others, they would just be destined for a landfill.

  • Thanks for your suggestion! I think you're right I'll go with the wedding colors. Btw your to go cups sound so awesome ! Side note: my fiancé and I got engaged in New Orleans and I bet a wedding in New Orleans was gorgeous and a wonderful experience!
  • Does anyone make chocolate koozies?

That sounds like a mess.  A delicious mess, but still a mess nonetheless.

I'm sure it is...but given how so many people want to use koozies as favors, and so many others prefer edible favors, this seems like the perfect compromise.

This sounds fantastic! Do you know if it was the "actual" mascot or just an impersonator? I would love to incorporate this into my wedding!

OP - just want to give you a differing opinion. This is definitely a "know your crowd" thing. My crowd of friends is mostly young and big partiers, football fans, tailgaters, etc. I have a few friends who do koozies for their yearly birthday bash or any other group event! We keep them in a big drawer and take one with us anytime we're headed to the beach or a concert or anywhere else we'd want to keep our beers cold in our hands! My family, although they will certainly get down at the wedding, would probably think it was silly and childish.

Knowing your crowd, there are definitely people that will enjoy it and use it as a koozie from an event, since koozies aren't a thing where you need matching decor or anything, it's by definition a cheap party accessory you don't care about! but a large amount of them will be left behind / unappreciated (as you can tell from your other responses). This is not an "everyone" favor, but it is fun and if it doesn't effect you at all budget wise I would say go for it! Just maybe expect to take home a bunch or don't be offended if that's the case

EDIT: The friends of mine who are really into koozies for events went to FSU! Just a funny coincidence :)
