Is it bad if my bridesmaids are in the same fabric as I am?

For my wedding in September, I'm wearing a gown that is lace on the bodice and English net in the skirt. (http://www.allurebridals.com/products/2716). Is it a bad idea to put my bridesmaids in English net and/or soft tulle as well? I've heard a lot of differing opinions and I'm driving myself and my loved one crazy over these damn dresses.

A follow-up question: does it really matter if their necklines are similar (or not) to mine? Honestly I don't care, but a friend who is also a wedding planner seems to think it's a big deal. My MOH really wants to wear this Bari Jay dress (http://www.bridesmaids.com/barijay-en1559.html) and I'm torn between two others for my other bridesmaids (http://www.dessy.com/dresses/bridesmaid/6724/#.VmHczb-VWiw and http://watters.com/Product/WtooDresses/658/#cs:eyJmYWJyaWMiOlsiYm9iYmluZXQiLCJuZXR0aW5nIl19)

Call me crazy but this has, by far, been the hardest decision I've had to make throughout this planning process. Everyone has an opinion!

  • No and no.

None of these things matter, truly! Ignore whomever is making this drama out of nothing. OP, this is a great worst problem to have as it can simply be ignored. Pick the dresses you and your bridesmaids like/can afford.

    You are over thinking this.

My BMs were in satin with a similar neckline and rouching as my dress.  No one confused them for me.

Does your MOH have to be in a different dress?  What do your BMs think of your options?

  • My MOH is my sister and she fell in love with her dress when she tried it on but it doesn't come in the colors I want so it can't be for everyone. I figured since she's MOH it's ok if her dress is different.

I've only involved two of my BMs in this process so far (because I keep changing my mind and wanted to spare everyone else). Both of them love the idea of the netting. I started second-guessing it when my coworker, who also does wedding planning, suggested I might want to change to dresses that have the same neckline as me. I probably should have politely told her to shut up.

    Amazing GIF up there, btw!

This should not even be close to your hardest decision.  Step back, breathe, let the girls pick the dress they like.

If you really want them to match, let them try the dresses on and vote.  If you just want them to coordinate, give them a color and even a designer if you choose, and let them pick.

There are far too many things to plan for a wedding; don't let what other people wear be your top priority.

  • None of this matters, trust me!!  There will be plenty of other little things you will stress about, let this be easy.  If the girls love them and they are comfortable, let them choose what they want.  Happy bridesmaids usually make your life easier!!
  • Ditto PPs and don't worry about them all needing to have the same neckline.  I feel it can look a little uniform-y if everyone has the exact same or very similar, but that's just my preference.

This is especially not something to enforce if your BMs all have different styles/tastes/comfort levels with what they are wearing.  I feel like the neckline is arguably the most important part of the dress in determining whether most people will feel comfortable in it or not.  3 of my BMs told me they really did not want to wear strapless, while 1 of them would ONLY wear strapless.  Easiest solution was to pick a designer, fabric, length and color and then they each picked their own style.  I thought the different necklines looked beautiful and most importantly, all the girls felt comfortable.

  • Way overthinking. Nobody will notice or care.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14
