I was writing out a long post about weight loss but @helloliv said it better than I ever could. Reaching a number on a scale is an important part of me becoming healthier, that doesn't mean that I can't also work on loving my body for how it is and have other fitness goals as well. But I am very overweight, I can't pretend that the number on the scale doesn't need to go down.

ETA: Also, congrats on your amazing accomplishment Liv, I bet it feels awesome to have finally reached that milestone :)

  • @keptinstitches Hope you are slowly beginning to feel better after the headache.

@helloliv congrats on reaching your goal!

My cheese stick is not nearly as good as the cookie I would love to be eating...

I have work to do very little but I don't feel like doing any of it.

  • @minskat30 I gotcha! Yeah I'm worried about joint issues with my upcoming puppy. I'm researching causes and what kinds of food I should be feeding during growth to have the best chance of preventing it. My breed is prone to hip and elbow issues, and while the parents have been tested and the ratings are good, its no guarantee unfortunately.
  • @labro, nope, manning a kettle for the Salvation Army. Our church mans a kettle three days every holiday, and H and I try to get out for an hour each of the days.
  • @helloliv so perfectly said!

@minskat30 yaaaaaay for Raj! he takes his champion-ness from you!

  • @KeptInStitches That makes sense! I definitely didn't equate bell ringing to the Salvation Army. In my mind it was either bell ringing like at a church choir thing or literally ringing people's door bells.

  • @minskat30 YAY! I'm so glad he's out of surgery and doing well! <3

Re: weight loss-- I'm not saying to ignore the number on the scale either, I'm just advocating for a variety of ways to measure fitness goals. When your main motivation for going to the gym or eating better is a negative view of yourself, you walk a fine line with how your perception of yourself will grow or change during the weight loss journey. Perhaps I didn't phrase it well, but all I'm saying is don't focus solely on the number on the scale. While weight is definitely a component in determining overall health and fitness, it's by no means the sole component for determining overall health and fitness. I also never once said that you shouldn't focus on dieting and exercising. I still count calories daily and have weekly gym goals. Weight loss and fitness have both physical and psychological effects on your body, and all I'm saying is be aware of the psychological side effects that can come with focusing too much on the scale. Your self worth is not tied to the scale.

  • @eilis1228 - With Weight Watchers, you weigh in once a week. It's actually frowned upon to weigh in more often than that. I'm having a hard time understanding the purpose of the preemptive-ness (word?) of your comments. I get that you have struggled with this but that doesn't necessarily mean we will and it came off, at least to me, as a bit condescending and projecting. I also think that you should take some of your own advice when it comes to being healthy.

  • Every time I attempt a weight loss journey, I start to cross over into an unhealthy way of thinking about food and calories and my weight. I am definitely overweight for my frame and it makes me so uncomfortable, but I have an obsessive personality and an anxiety disorder so counting calories and all that just puts me in a bad place. Unfortunately only exercising doesnt work so I have to change my diet. I just started experimenting with meal prepping and controlling portion sizes which I think is working okay since I started last week but I still need to weigh my food to adhere to serving sizes and it makes me feel a little crazy.
  • Thanks, @labro! BF and I eat out all the time, its the only time we can get away from family/roommate and its been this way for years. Every time I say we should eat in, he agrees and then we don't lol. I prepared some options for lunch/dinner for while I'm at work last week but I forgot to bring it with me a few days so some of that stuff might end up being thrown out. But now I know how much to cook so I don't waste anything lol.
  • I went to Target over lunch because I realized there are a couple of movies missing from my life/collection currently......

So tonight I plan on watching this movie:

And then later this week I will watch another one of my faves, with the song that I can't help but sing along to every single time:

    I'm so excited!

I also decided that there is probably a niche market yet to be taken over, specifically for children's Christmas stories and movies, but for kids on the NW coast of the US. It has been pouring rain the last two days. I am drenched just from walking to my building from my car. There were flood warnings yesterday. I feel bad for the kids that have rainy Christmases every year. They need to feel like rainy Christmas-time is okay too! ;)

@Swazzle has been making a breakfast casserole and a lunch casserole each Sunday before the work week and portioning it out into 5 breakfast/lunch servings. I seriously need to copy her idea because there are definitely some mornings where sleeping an extra 5 minutes wins over making lunch.

  • @alpacina YAY ELF! I watched it for the third time since Thanksgiving last night lol

    @labro @swazzle what a genius idea!
  • Yay @twodimes I'm glad I could help! I can't see the pic because my computer hates me, but I'm sure it looks lovely!

That is definitely smart. Or we always make enough dinner for lunch the next day. We would never buy just 2 pork chops, always 4 or 5. It helps not only with eating healthy lunches but it kind of forces you to stay on track with dinners and not eat out, otherwise you won't have a lunch the next day too. It also kinda helps with portion control because while you want to eat the entire box of pasta, you need to make the lunches with it lol.

  • @swazzle I'm gonna try it next week! What are your favorite recipes?
  • @untouchablets - Anything crockpot is a good one and I feel like they always taste better reheated. And this week was the first time I did casseroles, they came out really, really well! The breakfast one has been a lifesaver this week.

Skinnytaste Sausage, Egg, and Veggie Egg Bake (you can really do any meat/veggies that you want in this)

Skinnytaste Veggie, Ham, Egg and Cheese Bake

    Skinnytaste Petite Crustless Quiche

    Skinnytaste Quinoa Fiesta Enchilada Bake

Skinnytaste Crock Pot Chicken Taco Chili

I REALLY want to make this one next:

Slow Cooker Paleo Jalapeno Popper Chicken Chili

  • @Swazzle - I'm stealing your casserole idea! I rarely feel like getting up an extra 10-15 minutes early to eat breakfast and I struggle with what to do for lunch every day.
