    The only thing I can think of is that maybe the groom wanted this type of wedding at the get go but they started planning a big wedding and then went back to the courthouse thing. Glad it worked out well for them. I think, like all of you do, that surprising someone with a wedding is generally a horrible idea. I would love for surprise vacation to be a non-stressful thing with work. If my boyfriend could get me out of work I'd love a surprise vacation.
