Boring Day

Anyone got any first world problems? Confessions? General whining? Good things?

I probably have one of each.

FWP - H and I are house hunting and can't look at two houses I REALLY like until Wednesday.

Confession - We have no food at the house and I plan to ask H to stop and pick something up, even though I drive passed a grocery store on my way home. I just don't want to stop.

Whining - I hate. my. job. Lots.

Good thing - Weather! It's 60 in Chicago! Two years ago yesterday the Bears had a Monday night game and I think the temp was around zero, with the wind chill at like 15-20 below. I'll take any above-freezing December weather I can get!

Re: Boring Day

  • Oh I definitely have one of each.

FWP - I accidentally deleted my birthday coupon from Ulta. Pretty sure it was for free mascara. And apparently Yahoo deletes your trash automatically after a certain amount of time, because it isn't in there.

Confession - It is really annoying me that DH is stressed about money all the time lately even though we are doing ok right now. It's like every time he looks at our bank account he is mortified at how much money I've spent on things like groceries. Or hes like "what's this $20 charge at a gas station for?" umm...... gas for my car???? ugh.

Whining - I am tired and I want to go home. Today is boring me.

Good thing - I just found out that we are getting 5 more days of PTO next year! Woohoo!!

  • FWP - I'm hungry and I don't have any food at my desk and I am too lazy to get up and go to the vending machine.

Confession - I actually have work to do for a change, but instead of doing it I am watching The O.C. on my phone.  I do not regret my decision.

Whining - I'm over working.  I want to never work again.

Good thing - I got my first ever work bonus yesterday.  It was good timing too since I had just spent over $500 on clothes for myself and a jacket for H.

  • FWP I complain about having no time to do things I want to do because I'm tired and I work all the time, but I generally set my own schedule (I work in academia) so it's really my own fault. I could be doing work right now, but I'm here bc I'm putting off grading final papers.

Confession: I had a student skip an exam and it felt good to tell them they couldn't make it up. They were reminded several times about the exam, had a terrible attitude all semester, and didn't do much in class. (I'm not a horrible person, they still passed without taking it, but it felt kind of good giving them the 0 they earned).

Whining: same as @thefanciestbeckler confession above! H does this too and it drives me crazy! Umm the reason we spend so much on food is because you eat all the time!

Good thing: I have a new job to look forward to starting next summer; great location, better pay/resources, better students.
  • FWP - a friend works for the Rockets and said he'd get me free tickets (good seats, too) for DH's birthday.  The Rockets aren't playing so well, so I have to go find a new birthday present idea (original plan was nice dinner + game).

Confession - I'm scared shitless of looking into adoption.

Whining - we have people in India doing most of the work on our project.  They can be such morons and it means that I am on conference calls until midnight at least 3 times a week.

Good thing - I love that Christmas falls on a Friday this year so we get a 4-day weekend!
  • thefanciestbeckler, if you go to Ulta and give them your membership or phone # they may be able to look up your birthday coupon!  (I loooooooooove Ulta!)
  • @holyguacamole79 I'm hoping that's the case!! Lord only knows I spend so much money in there that I deserve a free mascara. lol.

  • @thefanciestbeckler I think I still have $3 left in rewards ... looks like I'll be going there soon!  Their app is also good.  It saves your rewards $$ and the coupons.  AND they have random bonus offers.  There was one a while back that said you get 5x points for any Philosophy purchase.  I love their tinted moisturizer, so I got it and ended up getting like $6 off my next purchase!
  • FWP: I hate fax machines. They either refuse to send for me, I don't receive what was sent to me, or it says that it was sent and the recipient doesn't get it. E-mail is so much more effective but doctors and the holders of my student loans refuse to use anything but fax or snail mail.

Confession: One small reason I want a baby is so that I can quit my job and use the baby as an excuse. (This is obviously not the only reason or one of the main reasons and we have decided to wait for a bit but it would definitely a benefit).

Whining: I have a chronic cough that when I get it last 3-4 months. I just got over a spell of it right before my wedding. I have seen just about every specialist you can think of and we finally narrowed it down to it likely being asthma. Well I took the test today and it came back inconclusive. I'm literally on the line between having asthma and being normal. So I just wasted money and time on yet another test to tell me they don't know what is wrong with me.

Good Thing: Due to my doctors appointments this morning and that my work group is having a company sponsored Christmas party starting at 4 today I really only had to work 11-4 and the day was so much nicer than my normal 7:30-5:30!

  • FWP: I am four thank you cards away from being done with thank you cards just in time to start Christmas cards. I haven't seen H all week except in passing because I've been locked in my office doing these.

Confession: I got a good review at my new job in October and a little raise but sometimes I feel like I'm not smart enough/good enough to do this gig.

Whining: H used to be a big video gamer but he went off it after his deployment several years ago. Now I finally got him into Skyrim but that's legit all he's done for the past week and a half, and if I take a turn he just sits there on his phone. Have other things to do sometimes!

Good thing: I have a job I love, I'm married, own a house, and have a dog. It's a pretty nice life.

    Achievement Unlocked: Survived Your Wedding!

  • FWP: We're also doing the house-hunting thing (revving up / planning phase) and crunching the numbers sucks. But hey, it's a FWP because at least we're privileged enough to do it in the first place, right?

Confession: The Starbucks guy totally judged me yesterday. "You want the donut AND the cookie?" ...  "And do you want them in two bags or one?" Heck yes I want 500+ calories worth of junk food and no I'm not sharing with a coworker. One bag, yo.

Whining: My heel hurts (bursitis I believe) and I'm running an 8k on Sunday and the forecast is heavy rain, damnit.

Good thing: Good job, great husband, family's all good, life is good.

    ________________________________

  • FWP: The chef at work ran out of egg whites this morning, so I had to have my omelettes with full yolks.

Confession: I just came off a HUGE deadline and I have little motivation today, so all I have done today is check TK, CNN, and People at regular intervals, and shop for Christmas.

Whining: We just bought a 4-bedroom house and have had to buy a lot of new furniture, since we are moving from a 1-bedroom apartment, and we hit a slight snag last minute with our moving company, which means we have to move a lot of stuff ourselves this weekend. I am sick and tired of moving furniture - both old and new and packing/unpacking boxes. I just want to be completely moved in and snuggle up by the fireplace (WE HAVE A FIREPLACE!!) with a glass (read: bottle) of red wine.

Good thing: We are fortunate enough to have each other, our dog, two roofs over our heads, and great jobs.

FWP: I'm hungry, but I don't want to get up to get something because someone will change the channel in the TV room.

Confession: I'm pretty sure I just scored myself a pass to sensitivity training, and I'm not that sorry about it.

Whining: My only complaint is the current dispatch shift. I don't know what's got their goat today, but they've been awful, and we've been annoyed by them all day. I can't wait for their shift change at 5:00.

Good thing: It's beautiful outside for a mid-December day. People are funny though; I've had some of the weirdest calls today, and my shift isn't even over until 7:00 tomorrow morning.

  • FWP - Our landlord is raising our rent by $150 per month starting in March.   It's FWP because we are still WAY under market rate for our place.  So I really shouldn't be complaining.  (hopefully we will be in a house by the end of 2016)

Confession- I like when DH works Thursday - Sunday nights.  Sure I don't get the normal weekend stuff most couples get, but I like being able to watch what I want on the TV.

Whining - Tomorrow morning I have to drive 2 hours (one way) to get my car.  A car that they claim they can't find any issues.  I'm going to be REALLY pissed if I have problems that thing back driving back.    We have to take the interstate with the speed limit is over 65.  The problems we experienced was driving over 40 mph.   Prayer for my safe return.

Good Thing -  Life is good right now. Have a roof over our heads, food in the fridge, money in the bank, awesome dogs, good family and friends.

    Safe travels & good luck!

  • FWP #2  - I have $40 in Sharper Image bucks to use and there is nothing I really want to buy.     Sigh.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Good (super awesome) thing - DH just got a $1/hour raise this week!  And his job also just started offering medical insurance this month, which is saving us around $200/month.  All that comes out to just enough for me to hire a personal trainer that I had been saying I need, but couldn't afford.

FWP -  How to spend all the extra money?  I still think $300/month for a personal trainer is ridiculous and am searching for cheaper options, but I need to do something before my back gets into worse shape than it already is.  And I want someone that has more of a physical therapy background, since I do have back issues, so I may just have to suck it up and pay the costs for the right person. But, that extra money would definitely help towards our house down payment we have been trying to save for. I have time to think about it because I don't want to start with a new training & diet program right before holidays.  I want to be able to eat ALL the yummy stuff for the next few weeks (within reason), then just make up for it afterward.

Whining - Okay... I wrote a very long, whiny response to this.  But, decided to spare you all of it.  The quick summary of it was that I don't particularly like my new employee.  She doesn't know some basic things that she should know given her work history and doesn't do a great job on the things she does know. I'm still hoping it's adjusting to the job, but it's been a month and I feel that she should be more adjusted than this by now.  Oh, and she's nosy as hell.  She listens into my phone calls (we have an open office) and asks for details on things in my conversations that don't pertain to her or her job.  She will randomly come over and stand over my shoulder because "she's curious about what I'm working on".  Business partner and I have decided to get through the holidays and reassess her position at that time.

Confession - I really don't want to buy my brother christmas presents.  I don't talk to him much and have no clue what to buy him.  And he refuses to respond to requests for suggestions.  And if he does, he says he has everything he wants/needs. So, it sucks.  I will probably end up getting him a gift card, which is impersonal, but I have no clue what else to get him.

  • FWP - Pretty much the same as @lyndausvi - our landlord raised our rent by $155/month last month, even though she raised it last year (she usually raises it by about $40 every 18 months). Our house is still below market average, and there's no way in hell we could find another place for less. And if we threatened to move, our landlord would call our bluff and have a new tenant in line within 24 hours. So we're just going to have to suck it up.

Whining - I am already hungry! But I know H won't be making dinner tonight, since he works later than me. I wish someone would just make me dinner.

Confession - The amount of work I have done today is close to zero.

Good things - My work just had a clearance sale on slightly worn and costume jewelry, and I bought 8 pieces of jewelry for $40. Had I bought them with my normal discount, it would have been about $160. So I finished a bunch of Christmas shopping in about 20 minutes. And tomorrow is my work's annual luncheon, so I am crossing my fingers I win something awesome in the raffle.
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • FWP:  It gets too dark too early to finish our outdoor lights!  Hopefully tomorrow we can get all of our net lights on the bushes and be done.

Confession:  Every time I Christmas shop, I magically come home with something nice for me too!  Last nights gift to moi was a blue, grey and black tunic length cape that can be buttoned around the neck to have a cowl neck, clearly I had to.

Whining:  I hate, hate, hate when people use 'being busy' at work as an excuse.  Of course you're busy, you wouldn't have a job if stuff didn't need to be done.  So stop whining about how much you're supposed to do, and use that time to, I don't know, effing do it!

Good things:  Most auto manufacturers shut down between Christmas and New Years, so I basically get a free week off of work!!  It makes the preceding  three weeks totally worth it, because they're crazy (it's 9pm and I just finished working - started at 7am).

Adding UO for @shessocold  - I hate this weather, where's my snow?!  I feel like I'm in White Christmas and I just arrived in Vermont; minus hanging with Bing Crosby, or being a 1950's film star, or being able to sing or dance - but other than that - just like it!
    image
  • FWP - I should go sleep in my bed, but my couch is so comfy.  But the stupid dogs will bug me all night if I don't go to bed.

Confession - One more week until Christmas break, and I'm counting the hours more than my class I think.

Whining - My apartment is chilly because it's too nice during the day to have the heat on, so I'm still not turning it on.  So I'm all buried under blankets.

Good things - I love my new car! She's so pretty and she runs perfectly and I love her.

FWP: It's the annual year end round up of paperwork. I never want to see another W9 or insurance form again. Ever. Yeah, I say this every year.

Confession : I love eating black olives straight out the can. Seriously, I can't keep them in the house. Best snack ever.

Whining: I'm so sick of doing dishes. It feels like it never ends. I miss my dishwasher.

Good things : BF sent a huge bouquet of flowers to me at the office. Huge, gorgeous, an apology for...that's another story. The next day(after hearing about why I got the first bouquet and how much it meant to me), my friend also sent me a bouquet at work (her words) because you're pretty (running joke/Firefly reference between me and BF). So now I have these 2 giant bouquets of flowers and my coworkers are super jealous.

I bought DH plastic dinosaurs for his desk at work so he can pretend to be Wash on slow days. Apparently his coworkers are fond of putting the dinosaurs in compromising positions...
  • FWP: Everyone keeps asking me what I want for Christmas but I literally have no idea what to ask for that's under $1000.

Confession: I'm planning on leaving a few hours early today even though I'm off next Friday. I'm trying to take advantage of being able to leave when I want until my assistant leaves.

Whining: DH is always hot and likes to freeze me in the house. I feel like I'm constantly cold and covering up.

Good thing: We finally got the tree up and it will be done if I can make this stupid bow. Our Christmas decorations are done.  And I have started wrapping presents but we're doing most of our shopping next week.

Normally I would agree with you, but this Sunday I'm going to the Blackhawks game right after the Bears game and it's really annoying and difficult to be wearing/carrying 40 lbs. of coats and bibs and shit around and trying to lodge it under my seat. Rain gear is much much smaller. :)

  • I made it home in one piece.  The car ran fine.   Well fine enough for me to drive to another dealership and buy a next car.   As of tomorrow this one is out of my hands for good.

Sucks that this was your only (best) option, but glad you're safe and will be done with this.

  • FWP: I hate autocorrect. That is all.

Confession: I'm pretty far behind on my class. I haven't structured my time well.

Whining: My husband and I are trying to decide whether to buy an older house or a new one. We already have a home so there's no rush, but it's a really hard decision to make.

Good Thing: I'm really happy. Marriage is going great. Both my husband and I are doing well. I'm thankful.
  • I'm reviving this because I want to whine. I'm hungover, tired, might be getting sick and I want fettuccini alfredo. I haven't had a craving or even eaten fettuccini alfredo in years.

I was wondering how you were doing after a Bears' loss and a Hawks win. Hang in there!
