False lashes

Re: False lashes

  • I'm BRL - Bottom rib length, about there.  I get trims about 1-2/year, for split ends, but that's about it.  But like I said, it starts getting stupid heavy and un-stylable around waist length.  I straighten it weekly and I've never dyed it, so it's pretty healthy.  I'll wear it down, pony tail, braided different ways, messy bun or sock bun normally.

  • My ends stay nice because I don't use heat styling on my hair, never dye it, limit shampoo and worship conditioner, usually wear it up and protected. I've got a very long terminal length, from 9 - 17, I never cut my hair and at high school graduation, if my hair was down, it drug on the floor by about 2" and it was still growing some.  From mid calf, I get some taper going pretty well, but it's hard to say past that because there was damage from stepping on it.  Which is why I cut it back when I started college.

By now, mostly I keep my hair long because I've always had long hair. I've done fake short styles and hate them. The length keeps the fluff leanings down, shortest I've cut was bra length and it wasn't fun.  I usually cut back to classic when it gets hard to put up, so pretty soon.  I could cut less, then cut more often.  But I've found by then, I've fallen into a few limited styles and while I don't have split ends much, I've roughed up my hair and it won't smooth back down.

Another big part for my long terminal length with hair that doesn't snap or break is genetics.  I've got coarser hair that can tolerate some abuse without complaints, and my mom, her sister I've seen with her hair visible and my maternal grandmother all have or had very long hair. My grandmother refuses to cut her knee length hair any shorter.

I've seen the overly damaged long hair and just bite my tongue.  Not my circus, not my monkeys as my grandmother likes to say.  Many are chemically damaged, a lot of heat damage, then worn loose.  Hair is not that agreeable to all that.

  • The longest I plan to grow is tailbone length. I like to wear my hair down too much to wear it longer.
Tailbone is a hard length to me, it's just long enough to get caught in waist bands but not long enough to behave and stay back.

I run around with my hair semi loose on the weekend, but around my class, no way.  I love 'em, but small children are sticky prone and my hair doesn't like that.
  • Haven't been on in a while and missed this convo! So one question was how do you not have ratty hair w/o cutting split ends. I believe someone already brought up S&D (search&destroy, cutting off individual splits or white dots with nice sharp shears), but I find in general that not using so much heat, blow drying a lot less and only on cool/warm and less hair 'styling' (back comb, clips, etc) really helps reduce split ends. I recently cut off ~ 6 inches of bleach damage. Well, recently as in September. Anyways, I've noticed only a few splits in my hair since then. It's all virgin, and I baby it with oils, conditioner and no heat tools (I still blow dry occasionally on cool/warm). Before, I would have handfuls of splits even right after a trim.

I think waist or just past waist is my favourite length. Hip was too long for me. It might be better with virgin hair rather than my bleached ends though. I always felt like unless I styled it, it looked yucky. So I might continue to Hip+ again and see how I like it. I just checked, and my ends are right around BSl now. So by next summer or so I should be there!

I saw a woman this morning with eyelashes drawn on her eyelid with what looked like an eyeliner pencil.

    Is this now a thing?
I wish it wasn't. I'm all for a good powder or pomade to fill in brows a little (mine are pretty light, so I have to do a little something to make them visible) but lately I've seen a lot of super drawn-on eyebrows. I hate that look. It just seems so harsh!

ETA wait.... I totally misread what you said. WHAT?????

YES!  I was trying to find a pic online, but I couldn't.  And this was even more dramatic.  And without the blue eyeshadow.  It just looked SO creepy!

For thin eyebrows (which I have ... stupid plucking too much in college), I like this .... http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=xlsImpprod11921023
  • I'll be stalking these forums for sure. My hair has four styles - down, ponytail, side braid and what I call a bouffant - a super ass messy ass bun that does not look good. I don't own a curling iron or a flat iron.

And I've always wanted advice on my greasy ass roots but dry ass ends.

ETA: What do these acronyms mean? Alp? Bsl?

If you use a lot of product you might want to try adding a cleansing shampoo once a week, it really cut down my greasy root business and didn't damage the rest of my hair. I used neutrogena's cleansing shampoo and its pretty gentile.

Also, I LOVE Batiste dry shampoo. I few of the scents I'm not a fan of but I think it works perfect for me. I use the one for brown hair even though I'm a redhead because I like the dark powder better than the white powder.
