I was reading some facebook wedding posts today, and someone had posted the list of celebs and other famous people they are sending invites to.

I did not know that was a thing.

I guess I don't understand why. For instance, it is highly unlikely they will come, so why send an invite ? Did anyone do this ?

    I've heard of people sending invitations to the president or to Mickey and Minnie Mouse. I guess someone figured out they send you a congratulations card or something which I guess would be kind of cool to have (if that's your thing). I don't think anyone expects them to actually show up. I see it come up on Pinterest a lot but don't know anyone who has actually done it.

    My friends sent one to the White House and the President sent them a "Congrats Card" I have also heard people invite "celeberties" hoping they send something as a present.....

    My sister's husband's uncle knows Harry Connick, Jr. So, mostly for kicks, they sent him an invite. He didn't respond, but it was still kind of funny.

    My fiance wants to send an invite to Bill Murray. I am sure he would not show up but I have heard he does crazy stuff like that sometimes too.

    My brother and I loved Paul Simon when we were little and invited him to my brother's Bar Mitzvah. His wife at the time left a voicemail declining on our answering machine. We thought it was the coolest thing ever. I think my parents saved the tape somewhere.

    I'm in the camp that thinks it's stupid to send invitations to celebrities, the President, Mickey Mouse, etc. I just don't get it.

    I agree with you. They're not going to attend, and assuming you get a response back, so what? The signatures probably are computerized or maybe rubber-stamped. They're completely impersonal so I don't think they're worth collecting or as keepsakes.

    I agree with you. They're not going to attend, and assuming you get a response back, so what? The signatures probably are computerized or maybe rubber-stamped. They're completely impersonal so I don't think they're worth collecting or as keepsakes.
    Exactly. People always claim it's a keepsake. Keepsake? Of what? A rejection from someone you don't know and didn't even meet? No, thanks.

    Add me to the group that thinks this is stupid.  99.9% of the time the celebrity never even sees your invitation.  So really, what is the point?
