Days leading up to your wedding

How busy were you a few days before the wedding?  This would depend on how DIY your wedding was, I guess.  We really won't have much to do but centerpieces and we have very few tables at that.  The venue will be taking care of 90% of the preparation.

I have booked rooms at a nearby town (1/2 hour or so from our venue) to do some touristy stuff in the area 2 days before the wedding, but am I being unrealistic on the timeline?

My work shut down the week of my wedding.  So I was off anyway.   We flew up to the location a week before.   During that week I went to labor day parties, dinners and lunches out with family and friends.  Shopping, laying out at the beach.  Sight seeing, etc.

I put in more hours in the 2 days leading up to the wedding working on some stuff.  However, I never felt I didn't have time to hangout with family or friends.

I will say I had a lot of help.  I was sharing a house with 17 other people.   Guests who were already in town were always over at the house. (seriously, the house was nothing more than revolving door of people coming and going).   At one point I grabbed some stickers to put on the candy bar boxes.  Next thing I know friends of my parents started helping me.  It was fun, sitting around the living room, talking, drinking and slapping on stickers.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

I was out of town from my wedding, and didn't have much DIY, but the two to three days before were hectic for me. I had to drop everything at the venue (that they set up) so I had to have it finished and labeled before hand. I did gift bags for hotel guests and had to pick up place cards, and last minute bridal party gifts.

So I guess it all depends. If all your stuff is done then you might have time for sightseeing. To be honest if I had extra time during those days I wanted to just spend it with FI and my friends and family.

I wasn't busy at all. Monday through Thursday were totally normal work days. We'd already turned in our final headcount to the caterer the week before. On Friday, we dropped off a few supplies (cake topper, cake cutting set, favors) at the venue; I got my nails done. We packed for the weekend (clothes, bridal party gifts, getting-ready snacks) and checked into our hotel. No rehearsal or RD, so we went out to dinner together and then relaxed at the hotel.

My wedding didn't involve any DIY on my part. The venue had a wedding package and they did everything, right down to simple centerpieces and escort cards. On Saturday, my mom brought her DIY bouquets, card box, and ceremony table display. (She's the crafty one of the family and offered to do all that. Even so, I'd told her early on in planning, "Don't create what you can't carry out drunk at the end of the night.") Since the bouquets were fake flowers, none of her DIY was anything that kept her busy right up until the wedding as she had been playing around with designs for months. I didn't have anything last minute; gifts, supplies, favors were all purchased well in advance.

Getting all inclusive wedding package was one of the best decisions I ever made. Having a helpful mother is also incredibly awesome. I also used TK's Checklist which was enormously helpful in ensuring I didn't leave anything to the last minute.

My parents threw our bachelor/bachelorette parties two days before (Dad took H and his dad and groomsmen to a baseball game; Mom hosted the women at the house). We hung out with our wedding party the day before the wedding and of course had the rehearsal and dinner that day as well. We were going to help set up some for the reception too but the others setting up shooed us off to go have fun. A lot of my family really wanted to help, so I accepted. If you do not have people hired or volunteering to do last-minute things for your wedding, you will likely be busier than I was.

Thanks ladies, I mean we're staying there indefinitely since they're non refundable but I wanted to know if I was realistic in being able to do some non wedding related activities a few days leading up to it.

    Busy as fuck.

In TX, you can't get your license until 30 days prior (unless you're getting married on Valentine's Day for some fucked up reason), and you must also get it 3 days prior, (so no less than 3 and no more than 30) and my husband was working out-of-state from January until our wedding at the end of March. He got there Tuesday night, and we went on Wednesday to get the license, then.

Wednesday night we had his best friends coming in, so we picked them up at the airport.

Thursday he and his groomswoman needed to go finish getting their attire, get a haircut, etc, and I needed to go to the bakery and finish organizing table numbers and escort cards.  So I dropped them off, and then went and did my errands and went back to pick them up.

Thursday evening we were going for dinner and drinks, and the SO of one of our friends caused major drama both before and after dinner. This was the night I had my only Bridezilla moment and was in tears.

Friday morning, we were supposed to go for breakfast, but those same friends caused more drama which made us have to turn that into lunch, which had to be a very late lunch b/c we had to pick my aunt up from the airport around noon. There was massive construction, and the late lunch plus that made it take forever to get to the venue for our rehearsal, leaving no time for me to pack and get stuff transported from our apartment to our hotel (we opted to stay in a hotel closer to the venue than our apartment to save time, but the construction and traffic ended up making that a pointless idea, frankly).

Due to the construction, everyone was late to rehearsal, which pushed the rehearsal dinner back late, and then we still had to go to our apartment, pack our things needed for the wedding, and go back to the hotel. We were not finished until around midnight, and we were having a morning ceremony, for which I needed to be up by 6.

So my advice is always not to plan too much b/c you just never know when the plans and timeline you thought you had are going to get all fucked up!
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

What drama did these people create that delayed you?

It's quite complicated and requires a lot of backstory and personal info to make sense to anyone outside our circle!
