Ohh Tuesday

Today is DH's bday.   He was really off and grumpy last night.   My moronic ass didn't realize until he had been home a couple hours that he was dreading today because he misses his mom so much and this is like a 'two steps back' situation with his grief.  We talked and had a good cry.  I guess we're going to dinner with FIL tonight.

I guess we'll do our planned Taco Tuesday on Wednesday.  ;)

Otherwise, is it nap time? Good lord adulting gets in the way of napping.

Re: Ohh Tuesday

  • Poor guy.

This morning is a cluster. Max was up sick all night so no sleep. Inspector said he was coming between 8:30 & 9. You know bus and preschool time. Dh came home. Finally get into the doc and they say how bout 11? Preschool ends at 1130. Got in at 1:30.

Sitting in drop off line with my gas light on. It says I have 20 miles until empty. I only have 5 to go.

In the plus side my pillows curtains and bathroom stuff should get here today
  • Sorry for Mr. Conn - all of the "firsts" are the hardest.

Just a usual day here.  Oh, and I guess we are getting an H & M in town.  I've never been in one.  Any reviews?

  • I'm sorry you guys are going through this, conn.  It's so tough.

Poor Max.  Hopefully he starts feeling better.

DH and I had a nice day together yesterday.  Since he hurt his hand last month he was on light duty for several weeks.  He had to go with a guy and basically tell him how to do his job.  The guy is very slow and inefficient so DH was working some long hours and it felt like we didn't see each other very much there for a few weeks.  We needed the time by ourselves, even if it was less than two hours.

We found a few projects we want to do in the living room.  They most likely won't happen for a while, but it's nice to have a diy project in the works.

I LOVE H&M. Their prices are really affordable and they have really cute, quality clothes.

So sad for your H, @mrs.conn23. That is hard.

DH and I had a long talk about our budget last night. Bleh. He was in a horrible mood because money stressed him out so badly. I hate talking to him about bills, but because I'm in charge of the act of paying the bills, I had to bring it up. I got to break the news to him that our bills currently add up to a couple hundred dollars more than we are bringing in monthly. So now we're scrambling to see where we can cut back. It could be worse, but it's still stressful.

  • I'm trying not to stress out about things.

Last night's boxing kicked my butt.  Usually I just kinda crawl into bed and pass out, but I smelled so bad I couldn't stand myself.  Took a bath with a glass of wine.  I managed to cook dinner.  When I tried to watch the x-files, I just fell asleep.  I'll try again tonight.

I wish today was Friday already.  Just b/c I want to curl up in my home and veg out.  I got nothing else other than that.

I'm sorry about DH.  Mr. Heff still dreams about his mom sometimes, and then he'll be in a funk for a good chunk of the day.  It's hard.

On a lighter note, Taco Tuesday is hands-down Wooz's favorite part of MLP Rainbow Rocks.  She references it often.

School called a two hour delay again, which was unexpected.  They robo-called us at 4:30 this morning.  That's what I get for keeping my phone in the bedroom--though if it had been downstairs, I probably wouldn't have even checked it until after I was showered and dressed and telling Wooz to hurry up, so maybe it was a good thing.  I really only dozed after that, so I'll be feeling it this afternoon.

Dropped DS off, and his teachers said they think he's ready to go hardcore potty training at school, undies only, no Pull-Ups.  I see the light at the end of the tunnel, y'all.

I'm sorry, Mr. & Mrs. Conn. That sucks so bad and sucks for the spouse too because I'm sure you just feel so helpless. I'm having bad "miss mom" days a lot lately with buying a house and exciting stuff she'd love to be involved in. Poor H doesn't know what to do or say.

I'm sure you all will feel terrible for me, since this isn't a first world problem at all. It's a real problem. My MIL bought me a coat for Xmas that was the wrong size. I return it to amazon and get a credit. The correct size is like $40 more than the credit. So now I don't know if I should buy the coat elsewhere and use amazon credit for something else or just pay the difference.

    Edited for typo

  • I'm sorry MrsConn. :(

I am in a grumpy mood. I'm avoiding work today, I'm tired, I'm hungry, and I just really want to be on a beach sipping a drink. I may need to do an airing of the grievances to just get it all of my chest.

Heffa- I dream of that day. DD wants to use the potty, but right after she's gone in the diaper. Peeing in underwear or Pull Ups does nothing for her. I mean, at least she's enthusiastic about wanting to go but I do dream of the day we can stop buying diapers and wipes.

I like this idea.  A lot.

To be fair, he's been fairly lackadaisical about it at home.  Sometimes he's into it, sometimes not, and we haven't been pushing.  But if school wants to kick it up a notch, we're on board.  I told DH the worst that can happen is it fails spectacularly, and he goes back to Pull-Ups for a few more months.

But man...I was texting DH and I was like "Can you imagine leaving the house without diapers and wipes again???"  Going on a trip without a big pack of Pull-Ups taking up half the suitcase.  He starts swim in a couple of months, and it would be awesome if he didn't have to use a swim diaper, especially because they don't allow the disposables.

  • Taco tuesday! That reminds me, my best friend sent me this last night but I'd had a few glasses of wine and forgot till I saw it this afternoon. Can someone get this for me please, I must have this wee guy in my life immediately.

Yeah, DH and I have been saying we need to tighten up on our spending.  I'm self employed and invoices have been slow the last few months, so money has been very tight.  Even when money isn't so tight, we tend to spend money on stupid things, and we really need to get better about saving money.  Over the weekend I printed out our last 6 months of bank statements so I can go through them this week, figure out where we spend our money, and create a budget.  I already know one of the tough argument points will be what DH spends on lunch. I get that he needs to eat out for lunch.  He's a very picky eater and "all meals need some sort of meat and need to be hot". So, he can't pack sandwiches or whatever.  And he can't do cheap fast food because his sensitive stomach doesn't agree with it (he would spend all afternoon in bathroom).  I've already realized that isn't a winnable battle with him.  But, he doesn't need to spend $15 on lunch everyday. I think we need to set a lunch allowance for him. But, I'm dreading that conversation.  And I still don't know if I'll come across any other discretionary spending of his that I'll need to fight over.

Today it's shaping up to be a high of about 50 with rain, and a low of 30. . . which usually a spread like that gives me a very bad headache, so we'll see.  So far so good!  And I have an appointment with a headache specialist tomorrow.

H and I just did this. We make too much money to be this broke. We each had a weekly bullshit spending "allowance" but then kept using cards for going out to dinner, Blackhawks games, random fun shit. So we agreed to up our weekly bullshit money and anything above bills and groceries, we pay for with our cash. H wants to buy his lunch? Comes out of his cash. I want to go to a game? I better have the cash. We've just gotten so out of control with the "oh just slap it on the card" and then these big bills come in and we haven't' saved anything for the month.

Does he have a microwave?  Or a thermos? I pack my son a thermos at 8 and it's still hot at 12:30.

He is a contractor and works on various job sites, so no microwave available. And he's not a big fan of microwaved foods anyway.  A big part of his problem is that his stomach is very sensitive to a lot of foods (I suspect he has IBS and lactose intolerance, combined with residual effects from past colon cancer), so most of the things he can eat aren't really things he can prepare ahead of time and keep warm. Any meal has to have some sort of protein meat (typically beef or chicken) and bread. Can't do anything liquid or dairy based. Some of this is his own pickiness, but most of it is just learned behavior on what his stomach will tolerate. He did try a heated lunchbox thing that would cook the food while he worked, but it wasn't too effective.  He does have a camping grill that he keeps in his truck and will sometimes grill food or use it to reheat BBQ for lunch. But, that's tough to do on a daily basis. I'm okay with him eating out and putting that in our budget (I am able to go home for lunch, so that offsets the cost), but he just needs to cut back to some cheaper options.

  • More little things- $4 worth of coupons didn't come off at Meijer, I totally went to customer service.  My tp holder came from Target, but it was punched through the box and the little arm broke off.  UPS was nice enough to put the other piece on top of the delivery. I never got around to finishing my coffee this am.

I'm tired and I know dinner will be a battle.  My2 out of 3 hate ham and 3 out of 3 hate scalloped potatoes.  Sucks to be them tonight.

What kind of contractor is he?  If he is outside a lot eating at sit down places might just be an excuse to be in a nice warm or cool spot depending on the time of year.  Eating out of a truck can get old for some people.

Look for restaurant gift card deals.  I know it's past xmas, but you might see them again around Easter or Father's and Mother's days.  Sometimes they will have a buy a $50 and get a $10 card as a bonus.

My parents love to go out to eat and they load up on those at their favorite restaurants for themselves.   Sure there is an upfront cost, but it can save  you in the long run if you know he will be eating there.

He's an electrician.  I'm pretty sure it really is just about his weird eating issues.  He also eats a full breakfast in morning (eggs, pancakes, bacon), so he usually eats mid-afternoon when he's getting off work around 3pm.

We actually do stock up on gift cards deals at Christmas time.  But, we usually use them for going on to dinner together.

*Raises hand* I'm not a huge fan of ham.  I love bacon, and I tolerate ham, but most other pork is right out.

I'll eat the hell out of scalloped potatoes, though!

And since when are kids reasonable? ;-)

Every once in awhile I say piss on them and make a meal for me;). The just need to try the potatoes then they can have the town rice and quinoa they love. They hate mashed potatoes too.

My kids used to call this "dreaded", as in, "Oh, no!  Mom is making dreaded tonight!"  I made it to save money.  Same with tuna casserole ("casteroil"), which DH won't touch, either.

    Guy food:
    1 sliced onion, browned
    1 lb. ground beef
    1 can diced tomatoes
1 12 oz. can tomato paste
1 can mushrooms stems and pieces (optional if they hate mushrooms)
1 T chopped basil, and garlic salt to taste.

In large frying pan, brown onion, add beef until browned.  Drain grease.  Stir in rest of ingredients.  Simmer 30 minutes on low.  This makes a heavy meat sauce that is served over any kind of pasta.  We prefer rigatoni.

I grew up in a home that had potatoes at almost every meal.  The only exceptions would pretty much be pasta or pizza nights.    Even if hot dog/hamburger night would have side of potato chips.

Hard for me to comprehend.  I even make mashed potatoes for myself.  Totally my comfort food.

Oddly, I HATE any type of breakfast potatoes.   Not sure why.  However, I do not eat much in the way of breakfast.   2 eggs, toast and bacon is too much food for me in the morning.  So I'm able to explain I don't want potatoes because it's too much food.  Which is true, but really I don't like them anyway.

Shoot I'll come live at your house then! I love tuna casserole. AND ham and scalloped potatoes.

Their nicknames for them are cracking me up!

  • I like tuna fish sandwiches.  I like tuna steaks.  I like raw tuna.

I fucking hate tuna casseroles.    WILL NOT EAT ONE.

Mrs. Conn, so sorry, that has to be so hard.  My best friend growing up's father is terminal.  He's in kidney failure and is going back to the hospital more and more often for blood transfusions.  I'm having the opposite end of conversations you guys are having.  She's trying to be brave and strong for him and then needs a place to be a mess and deal emotionally and she's been turning to me for those conversations.

And 6fsn - I'm sorry those are your children;).  Midwest girl here so meat and potatoes all the way!  I mean who doesn't like cheese and potatoes at the same time?!?
