This question is for you, Marrieds:

This might be a really stupid question, but when I went on Wedding Paper Divas to look into place cards, it looks like I'm just buying the place cards blank and will need to put guest names and table numbers on them myself/with a calligrapher's help. Previously when I've purchased (from Minted for a baby shower, mind you), for example, they included addressing with the order. I was curious if anyone knew if this is correct that you order them blank, or if there was a later step that I hadn't gotten to in the ordering process. Thanks in advance!

    This is what we did.  I filled in the cards (from Vistaprint) the night before the wedding.  You don't need to pay a calligrapher.  Legible handwriting or printing will do.

    We were fortunate that a family friend does calligraphy and offered to address invitations and write place cards. Otherwise, we would have printed the place cards.

    Yes, I ordered them blank. The woman that addressed our invitations also included our place cards in her quote.

    I ordered a file from Etsy and typed the names in rather than hand-write everything. It was easy from there to print and cut everything out.

    Do you happen to have the sellers name?  People with illegible handwriting would like to know.

    @kimmiinthemitten I ordered from Weddings by JanieV (https://www.etsy.com/shop/WeddingsbyJanieV?ref=l2-shopheader-name) because she had a printable template that fit my wedding style but there are seriously TONS of other printables available on Etsy that fit all sorts of wedding colors and styles.

    @kimmiinthemitten NP! I hope you find something you like! The printables came out beautifully. I just purchased creamy colored heavyweight paper...I think either 120 lb or 110 lb. from Michael's to print everything on and it was perfect!

    I bought card stock somewhere.  Then my sister and I came up with a template on word.    After they were printed we used a paper cutter.    I tied mine to starfish, so i I didn't need them to stand up.  It was really convenient since we had some last minute cancellations and I was able to print some easily.






    What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

    I have terrible handwriting and I'm a lefty, so I tend to smudge as I write across a page.  That said, I made place cards with gold Sharpies and accented them with a fern stamp (my friend's idea--she's a genius and has much better handwriting than me, but mine came out just as decent as the ones she made).  For table numbers, I found cardstock photo-holder tents, with a small slot for the number and a 4x6 slot for a photo--I ended up adding pics of me and DH from when we were kids (separate pics, we didn't know each other then) to right up before the wedding.  I think I got it all at Michael's or Joann's.  The most important thing about DIY place cards is to have plenty of extra for when you end up spelling "Nick" "Ncik" or some such error, since your brain will be dead with the effort of making it look nice.

    @missfrodo thanks! I'm a fellow lefty and any kind of nice paper is just asking for the Lefty Smear anyway. I actually ended up asking the seller on Etsy who made our invitation suite to make me an editable PDF for printing place cards to avoid all left-handed interference!

    I love your idea for table numbers! I had a friend who did something similar and it was cute and memorable, I just don't know if I have the DIY patience to replicate it. Luckily I do have some more time though...
