Can you pair a lace top with a gold sequin dress?

I love this sequin dress. Can you pair a lace top with it? I don't need it to be matchy matchy. I am thinking it might work if the lace top ended at the waistline of the dress. I am never matchy with the way I dress and love something a bit away from the norm. Thoughts?

I am almost positive the sequins would pick and damage the lace. Plus, have you tried these on already? Every sequin dress I've ever put on has been really scratchy/itchy/uncomfortable. Just something to consider.
