Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

music for walking down the isle

We are having an outdoor ceremony, and I believe a good friend of mine if playing the piano for us (he can play literally anything you put in front of him, he is insanely talented!) I of course would double check anything with him and see what is can play or is comfortable with.

Our ceremony will be outside on an island type of location at a pond that is then surrounded by woods on most sides, so a rustic style. And our backup is inside of a AC wood barn that is also a church.

Has anyone been to a rustic style wedding and had something besides the traditional wedding march?

Re: music for walking down the isle

  • I got married outside at a mountain resort. I walked down the aisle the the Piano Guys version of A Thousand Years.
  • Will there be a piano outdoors?  If it is an electrical piano, will there be power connections?

  • I don't think I've been to a wedding in the last 5 years that did use the traditional wedding march.

there will be a piano outdoors, I'm not sure if it will be electrical or not. but if it is, we will obviously have power hooked somehow. There are some power connections on this island because they really only use it for weddings.

Do you want traditional classical music or something more contemporary?  There are a lot of alternatives.  Here are some suggestions from the Knot site:

  • You can pick anything you want.

DH and the GMs walked down the aisle to "Till Kingdom Come" by Coldplay and I walked down the aisle to "Turning Page" by Sleeping At Last.

Check out the Piano Guys on youtube. The do a lot of covers of popular songs- maybe there is a way for you to get the music if you find something you like?
  • I walked to "In Your Eyes" performed by string trio.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • If you're having trouble coming up with something I'd ask him for suggestions. Music was not our thing when it came to the ceremony, we wanted something classic, but not overly religious, we just had no idea what to use. Our pianist came up with all the music selections for us (I can't even remember what is was, but it good) and just played what he wanted.
  • I walked to "Believe Me if All Those Endearing Young Charms," an old Irish song, played on guitar and violin.

  • Find any song you like and use it.  Are there any songs meaningful to the two of you?  Like others said, check out Piano Guys on you tube.  You can find piano instrumentals of most songs online if you search. I walked down the aisle to piano instrumental version of Nothing Else Matters by Metallica.  We loved the message behind the lyrics, but wanted it instrumental for the ceremony... it was gorgeous.

  • We didn't have a rustic theme per se, but our wedding was outdoors and our décor was very natural. I walked to this:

I just liked it because it was simple. I'm sure your friend could find a piano arrangement he's comfortable with.

we have my cousin's indie band doing a shortened acoustic version of artificial light by typhoon. our ceremony is in the beautiful garden at the reception venue.. our theme is under the stars (our date coincides with the perseid meteor showers) so it fits:)

  • I'm walking down to a string band playing A Thousand Years
  • We're planning to walk down the aisle to Beethoven's "Ode to Joy."
  • I walked to an acoustic version of "Can't Help Falling in Love" by Elvis. It was played by a guitar and violin duo, but think it would be beautiful on a Piano too. My wedding was outdoors on a farm and it was perfect. Good luck!
  • I think FH and I have decided to walk down to "God Only Knows" - Vitamin String Quartet version.

Weather permitting, we will have an outdoor ceremony, and we will have a violinist playing it. It was really important to my mom (and FI too I think) that I walk down to Here Comes the Bride, and since I didn't have like a song in my mind that I had to walk down to, I'm planning on doing that.

Though apparently I'm in the minority.

ETA: for processional and recessional music, we'll do more contemporary stuff, like Here Comes the Sun and perhaps Can't Help Falling in Love.
  • I walked down the aisle to Aphex Twin's "avril 14"
