A different BM issue

I don't normally contribute a lot on any of these boards, but hearing what @spockforprez is going through right now with her FI, I thought I'd try to post something lighter and amusing, maybe to take her mind off life for a second. This post was inspired by a post titled "BM issues" or something on one of the other boards, and someone commented they always think of "that other type of BM," which was my thought, too!
So I have 2 dwarf rabbits, both about 10 years old now, and in his old age my male is having issues taking care of himself in the grooming department. Twice in the past couple months, DH and I have had to bathe him in the sink to get rid of what I call, technically, "poopy butt." This last time, DH cut some mats away from his butt and de-shedded him quite a bit so we can avoid this situation in the future. Thorin (the rabbit in question) would not speak to DH for several days (ran whenever he came near), but now we are all friends again and thankfully there are no more poopy butts in the house. That, to me, is the only acceptable "BM issue."

What non-serious trouble has your pet or baby gotten themselves into, and what did it take to fix it?

Our cat is way too smart for her own good. We try to keep her out of closets, but she tries to sneak in past us, without us noticing. Half an hour later, we'll hear her meowing to be let out.

One time we had a large, empty cardboard box near the window, and the lid was folded shut, so she'd sit on it. I was in the basement and heard a thump. I come back upstairs and don't see the cat for a while. Then I hear meowing in the living room. She'd fallen through the top of the box and couldn't figure out how to jump back out. This was an easy fix-I just turned the box upside down, so the taped shut lid was on top.

DD isn't crawling yet, so she hasn't gotten into much "trouble" yet. Yet.

As you might guess from my screen name, I have *lots* of stories.

When I adopted my oldest cat Oliver and his littermate (Rocky, who has gone on ahead), Oliver got his head stuck in the mini blinds one morning as I was getting ready for work. I went to rescue him, and he was struggling so much that he brought the entire blind crashing down. He wasn't hurt but he did give himself a good scare.

ETA: The handsome ginger and white boy is Oliver.

Winston, our hedgehog used to get poop boots (hedgie term) on occasion. Not all hedgies use a littler box, but just poop while they wheel. Then they end up running through it, giving them poop boots.

He also used to 'Igor' most nights, where he'd stretch out super long, yawn, and move his front paws up and down, one at a time. It's called 'Igor' cos they look like Frankenstein

My office sent my get well soon flowers on Thursday. It came with a vase and I displayed them on our fireplace mantle.

Last night, one of our cats, Tater, jumped up on the bookcase next to the fireplace. H and I both screamed "No" to Tater to attempt to deter him from jumping onto the mantle. We both knew he was going to jump anyway, but we figured he'd do it carefully and gracefully. Wrong. He crashed right into the vase, knocking it down, shattering on the brick, and soaking everything.

My old dog, Boudica, was the queen of getting into trouble. Some of her "greatest hits" include:
(1) Chewing holes in the linoleum kitchen floor (I still don't know how she anatomically was able to do that).
(2) Running away in a snowstorm when I took her to go out to pee, and she ended up at a liquor store down the road. A lady at the store took her home to her apartment, but left her number with the liquor store. Thank goodness.
(3) Getting into the fridge (once again, not sure how) and eating a mostly-full jar of dark chocolate frosting. FI found her licking the jar clean with a guilty face. He rushed her to the vet where they made her throw up, but apparently she was pretty stubborn and they had to give her extra doses of ipecac because she kept "fighting" it.

I swear, she was THAT dog that if you left her alone for 5 minutes, you'd regret it. But I loved her all the more for it. I think the reason she was so much trouble was because she was so so smart. Pretty sure she thought she was a little person. This is her:

After she passed away last year, we got her "little brother", Finn, who is adorable but much less mischievous. His biggest problem was that he learned he could jump the fence at our house, so even though we have a nice backyard for him to run around in, we had to get a wireless electric fence to help contain him. We would have gotten the ones where we bury the wires and done the full perimeter of the yard, but the landlords didn't want us to dig. So he got the wireless one, which only allows him access to about half the yard. Here he is, enjoying licking out an empty peanut-butter jar:

Agreed. I wanted a hedgie for years, since I was about 10. I got hedgehog slippers for Christmas instead that year.

Finally got one as an adult.

@tigerlily6, both your babies are/were adorable! One of the reasons we are choosing to get a corgi is that it will be extremely unlikely to jump tall fences! I have heard of dogs "figuring out" electric fences and basically wearing the battery down without their owners noticing...Hopefully yours isn't that smart!

Thanks, @missfrodo! My uncle has always had corgis -- they are great dogs! Our two dogs are Australian Cattle Dogs (also called "heelers"), and one of my favorite mixes I've seen is a Corgi/ heeler mix. So darn cute!

Can you tell I'm mildly obsessed?

Finn thankfully hasn't been smart enough to figure out how to wear the battery down. But he has crossed the invisible line once or twice to run to the back of the yard, and stubbornly endured the electric pulse for 30 seconds until it stops. Thankfully, I don't think he has done this on purpose and figured out it's something he can do regularly . . . yet. I look forward to the day we get our own house and we can put up a tall fence!

Our hamster Dalton (in my profile pic) sadly passed before our wedding. He too was having issues with poopy butt so the vet trimmed his behind for us so we could keep it clean. He did not like that one bit. He had way too many funny antics to mention and I still miss him terribly.

After our honeymoon we adopted two chinese dwarf hamsters. They are brothers and love hanging out together. They wait for us to turn off the TV every night and then they dump a bunch of seeds and whatever else they can find in their cage into the wheel and run. It is SOOOO loud! We just laugh now and listen to it for 5-10 minutes until it all falls out. It's just so funny that they do it every night and it's always like 30 seconds after we turn off the TV.

My dog, Brittany, locked the dog walker out last week. We live in a super secure building so I leave our apt door unlocked when the walker is coming. Last Wed she called and said she was locked out. After a brief investigation we realized the dog accidentally locked the door if she was scratching at it. That particular day she also knocked a bag of sugar off the counter that I am still working on cleaning up.

One of our cats, Stella, is a very anxious animal. She chews at her skin, and it is definitely worse when new animals are introduced to the house.

A couple weeks ago, we were dog sitting quite possibly the most annoying dog on the planet (supposedly a min-pin, but looked like a chihuahua to me). This dog barks like someone is strangling it all. the. time, and goes into a frenzy at the sight of cats. Around this time, we noticed almost completely-bald patches on Stella's lower back and tail.

So, I went out and got her a Thunder Shirt. And when she wears it, her personality is completely different... Our pup, Monty, ALWAYS tries to get the cats to play with him, and they usually run away. But when Stella is in her Thunder Shirt, she actually pursues the dog, and he runs away. I think she is fucking with him, since she knows he is actually afraid of her. She follows him around, meowing, and it seems to scare the shit out of the dog. It's actually hilarious to watch.

Moral of the story: The Thunder Shirt do seem to work on our anxious cat. And she looks really funny wearing it.

I hadn't actually seen them for cats, but I know people who have had success with the Thundershirts for dogs to calm anxiety. They basically hug your pet and it calms them down. I know one person who tried it for a dog that is so frightened of thunder that it will hide under the bed for days (literally) after a storm and it didn't really help much there, but I know others who it has helped a lot. So, it's worth a try.

I have two pomeranian-chihuahua mix dogs. The little one definitely has poop butt issues. Her butt hair grows about 1-2 inches every month. The groomer trims "the sanitary strip" real close and that part stays okay. But, the hair on the back of her legs on either side grows super fast. If I don't take her to groomer every 4-6 weeks or trim her ourselves she gets clingers. Her feet hair and claws grows super fast too. The hair between the pads on her feet grows about 1 inch a month. The rest of her doesn't really grow at all. Luckily our groomer offers a "mini groom" that just trims feet, sanitary areas, and trims around the face, so it's a bit cheaper than a full groom.

My larger one never needs grooming. We don't even need to trim his claws. We know his genetics going back several generation for sure (he even gets occasional visits to see his bio-mom, bio-dad, & siblings). We don't really know much about the history of our other Pom-Chi, so she may have some other breed in her to create the grooming issues. If nothing else, I'm pretty sure she is higher percentage of Chi than Pom.

@princessleia22, your fur babies are adorable! That's good to know about a "mini-groom" -- I've never heard of that service before. My dogs don't need grooming, but my parents own an Aussie Shepherd, and he gets matts in those places regularly. I may have to tell my mom to look for "mini groom" services.

On another animal tangent about poo, one of the reasons baby chicks have high mortality rates (they say it's typical to lose about 20% of your order) is because they "paste up" if the temperature in their box isn't just right or even. My brothers and I raised chickens when we were kids, and we made it our mission to not lose a single baby. My mom bought us several packs of baby-wipes, and the three of us used to take rotations checking the baby-chicks every several hours to wipe them until they got a bit older and their digestive systems were hardier. 100% survival rates for 3 years in a row (we finally lost one in an order of 20 chicks -- she was just a pretty sick little thing to begin with, though).

Thundershirt has done wonder for our dog that gets anxiety about driving in the car. He throws up when he's not wearing it but he's much more chill when we put him in the Thundershirt. It's an easy solution (though a bit pricey for pet clothing) if it works. And what I like is that we don't have to dope him up. The vet was going to suggest meds if the Thundershirt didn't work so this has really worked for us.

We have two very, very floofy cats who tend to have dingle issues. We have a dedicated razor to shave the problem areas (an old electric razor). BF has a cat named Dusty, the razor was originally dedicated to her, so we call it "Dusty's butt razor". We can't decide if that's a name of a punk band or a Burningman Camp.

My family has a short-haired cat, and somehow she is still able to have dingle issues (not frequently, but every now and then)! Maybe she has too much fur in her digestive tract or something, because it basically sticks to her butt, not her fur! Pets are so rewarding!

My hair is really long and it's pretty much everywhere, no matter how much we sweep and vacuum. Sometimes our dog eats it and then when she poops, there's shit like, hanging out of her ass stuck to this hair that's still in there. It's so gross.

Oh, another funny BM thing with my dogs, which I was reminded of this morning. When my bigger dog gets softer BM's sometimes it leaves poop butt. When this happens, as we go back inside we just need to say "butt wipe" and he immediately goes into the bathroom, lays down, and rolls over so we can clean him up. And sometimes he even knows before we say it and will go right in there and get in position.

I am glad I am not alone in this... I have a lot of hair, and I shed, and our dog likes to eat my hair (sometimes straight from my head). It IS gross.

I don't know why I can't ever attach a pic to the bottom of my post, lol. I swear that is where the cursor is when I try.

Our dog Izzy, is normally pretty intelligent (a bit too much for our own good!), but cannot figure out how to navigate a door that is slightly ajar. If it isn't already open enough for her to fit her whole body through, she'll just sit on the other side until someone opens it more for her. She traps herself in the bathroom at least a few times a month because the door sometimes closes most of the way behind her.

The first time she did it, we were freaking out a little because we couldn't find her anywhere. We were calling her name, indoors and outdoors, but she never made a sound. Then I went to use the bathroom and it was like, "Oh! Hello Izzy, is this where you have been the whole time?"
