Affordable Beach Bachelorette Locations near NYC

Hi All,

MOH planning a bachelorette party weekend with a range of budgets. Trying to accommodate everyone.  Looking for a place to go in August that is near the beach (within 3 hour drive of NYC), has good bars and restaurants and maybe wineries or sailing near by (something fun to do on a Saturday).  Of the places I've looked within driving distance of NYC area (Newport RI, Fire Island) they've been $300-400 for the weekend per person for the hotel/house.  I was hoping with 8-10 people we could find something for less than $300 but that is proving to be difficult.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  • This is an international board - you'll get better responses if you use the local boards.

  • Try New Jersey beaches - you could probably rent a house in Point Pleasant or Belmar or some other beach town in Central Jersey, or even head all the way down towards Atlantic City (like LBI). Try posting on the NJ local board, though there aren't always that many people there.
  • What about the CT shore area?   There are hotels near the casinos that don't cost an arm and a leg like the ones in the casino do.   Some even offer limo / shuttle service to them.  They're a short trip to Mystic / Stonington and there are several vineyards in the area.   A lot of the beaches are public and you just need to figure out parking - again, depending on budget you can taxi or figure out a place to pay for parking.
  • Beaches in high season is tough. If you can go the first weekend after Labor Day you'll have great water temps and cheaper housing. That being said, the Jersey Shore should work, or the Finger Lakes- lakeside beaches but very pretty and lots of wineries.
  • We went to Dewey Beach for mine, it's more like four hours but it was fun and relatively inexpensive!
  • Atlantic City has everything you're looking for! 2.5 hours away, lots of good deals, and tons of bars and top notch restaurants. Plus a few wineries and golf courses within a 20 min or so drive. Good luck!
  • My future SIL had her bachelorette in Cape May, NJ a couple years ago.  It was awesome!  It's about a 3-hour drive from the city.  There were 12 of us and one of the girls found an unbelievable house to rent right near the beach...we all ended up paying only $185 for the whole weekend (2 nights)!  And the house was big enough that we all got our own beds, which was great.  Cape May itself is beautiful-- lots of cute, historical Victorian houses to check out on the drive in.  The beach is nice and there are some great restaurants and bars in the area.  Highly recommend!
  • We rented a giant house in Margate for around $150/person for 2 nights - and that included snacks & booze for the house - it was the off-season though, so the prices would be higher in August. But Margate is a great location - there are a few bars there and it's a short cab ride to AC.
  • Sea Isle City in NJ is good, too. Halfway between Wildwood (Boardwalk) and AC, and with a smaller boardwalk and a bunch of bars of its own. They have kayaking and such during the day, too.

We rent a small condo there with 2 bedrooms that fits 7 (master bed, 3 twin & pullout couch), and it usually costs under $200 each. Depends on how much space all the guests need, but we're never in it anyway.
