I woke up feeling dehydrated so I had a huge glass of water. Since then I've had a giant mug of coffee, a bottle of iced tea, and more water. I hope I'm not getting sick.

Last night we put up a ceiling fan in the living room. There was a really bad thunderstorm last night, so in retrospect not the brightest idea on our end. Luckily we didn't lose power or have any injuries. Tonight will be more house projects and crafts. I need to make bows for Emmy.

Question for everyone: How did you come up with the name for your pet(s)? Callie is named after my favorite flower Calla Lily.

Ugh I'm definitely getting sick. Yesterday my throat was sore and today I'm sneezing, stuffy nose, and dealing with my sore throat still. UGH....I blame the weather.

We decided on the name Maddux from one of DH's favorite baseball players Greg Maddux.

Aww baby Callie is so cute! My best friend had mentioned awhile ago that she thought the name Harley for a baby girl was cute and thought I might like it. I liked it but not enough to name a future daughter that. Then when my aunt gave me a kitten the name popped into my head and I thought it was cute for her. It was between that and Lola and my H liked Harley better. He tries to claim now that she's named after Harley Quinn but that's not what happened lol. I don't have a picture to share of her right now

We had terrible thunderstorms last night too so I kept waking up and slept like crap. And because the rain was coming down so hard I kept waking up thinking of running water- I am TRAUMATIZED after my bathroom flooding incident lol.

Not much going on today besides trying to get tons of work done. I need to work out when I get home and make dinner.

@twodimes haha all the baby pictures in the Surprise thread made me think of it! And Callie is, Callie Elizabeth Lastname when she's in trouble hahaha (Elizabeth is not part of her name at all, it just flows hahaha)

@lavenderfields13 haha love that he tries to say her name came from Harley Quinn. Any word on when the bathroom thing will be fixed?

YAY! So we got Tessie back in October 2014. We tried a few different rescues but they all denied us so we finally went through a breeder. At the time BF and I weren't living together, so Tessie was living with BF and his mom. She wanted to help choose the name and pretty much shut down all the names we picked. We finally all agreed on Bella.

BF and I went and picked out Tess from the litter and the next time we went back and brought BF's mom. When we brought her, they explained everything and introduced the parents, Moose and Tessa. BF's mom loved the name Tessa and asked if we could do Tess/Tessie/Tessa. We liked Tessie so it stuck! It's also the name of a Dropkick Murphy song about Boston and one of the lyrics is "Tessie you are the only, only, only" and we love Dropkick so that helped!

I miss my little baby! I want her that little again! Luckily she never grew out of her puppy face so I get to still see that everyday!

@TwoDimes She is 66 pounds. She is short but solid. They told us that she would be 80-90 based on her parents but that wasn't the case at all. Baby Indy is adorable!!! I love her eyes.

This thread is going to increase my puppy fever I just know it!

@speakeasy14 I saw the guy on the second floor when I was coming home yesterday so I asked him if the management company had come to check out his bathroom but he said he had been at work all day and he didn't know. He made it seem like it wasn't even a big deal- but the night before he said water was pouring through their light fixture. Sooo I'm hoping it really isn't a big deal and I don't hear anything about it and they have no actual damage- or worst case is their ceiling needs to be painted. The water really wasn't running for that long and our bathroom was perfectly fine after I used a few towels. Still keeping my fingers crossed!

I love all these puppy photos you guys! They are SO CUTE!!!!!!

We chose Cinders as the name for our dog because my dad had a black dog growing up named Cinders. He always told us stories about him and it was just something I had decided....that if I ever ended up with a black dog she or he would be named Cinders too.

Cinders was an oops puppy. @southernpeach89 's co-worker's dogs did what unaltered male and female dogs do...and they ended up with 6 adorable black lab-border collie pups! I picked out Cinders because she had the sweetest, calmest personality of the bunch (loling at calm...). This is the day I picked her up at 7 weeks old!

So today is like the worst ever. We had insane storms last night with wind, lighting, and flooding rain. At 1am our carbon monoxide detectors were going off. We had no power and had no idea what to do. So I immediately put on my coat and stood outside. He fucks around a little inside, trying to reset the alarms, kinda hard to do in the dark. Then he gets the kitty and the 3 of us sit in the pickup truck. Luckily it was 60 degrees out, so we had the windows cracked and weren't cold. We debated what to do for an hour...go back in and open the windows? Sleep in the truck? Try to wake up FIL 30 minutes away and crash on his couch? We finally decided to call the fire department and they came and tested and got a reading of 0.0 so cleared us to go back in. They said it must have been a fluke because if there was ANY in there, it wouldn't have dissipated all the way to zero already. Course then we were full of adrenaline and couldn't fall back asleep.

I peel myself out of bed, get to work and find out there's no power and everyone else received a text to stay home! I'm like wtf, so sat in traffic to drive the 45 minutes back home. Ugh!

Story of Kitty: got her the fall I transferred from community college to University (junior year). My bff came over and we sat in my apartment til midnight trying to come up with names- peanut, jasmine, oreo, pirate- couldn't decide on anything and she finally had to go back to her dorm. So we said "fuck it- Kitty!!"

@labro We have two more ceiling fans to install, plus a few other ceiling lights. Not sure how many will get installed tonight, but probably at least one. I'm surprised Cinders is part border collie, she looks all lab.

Morning lovelies!!! @TwoDimes - that video!!!! Made my day.

Rajah is named after the tiger in Aladdin. I thought about naming him Bjorn (which means bear in Danish) but had already named a cat that once so I decided against it. I was watching my niece/nephew and asked them what to name the Great Pyrenees I was going to get and they kept on with really silly names like "snowball!" "whitey!"...love them but they aren't very creative at 10 and 5.

I ended up watching Aladdin that night with the kids and obviously remembered the tiger in the movie was named Rajah and that was that.

H takes credit for naming Raj ALL the time (and says it was his dog) because the name is Indian and Raj is a "better fit" to be "his" dog. Cue eye roll. I think Raj and I look mighty cute walking down the street with his big ol' butt just as big as mine.

@speakeasy14 You see it more now that she's an adult and especially if she stands side by side to a border collie. She's only a quarter though! But she's got white hairs all up under her tail and she's fluffier in ways that a lab isn't. She had some natural herding behaviors as a pup that we corrected pretty quickly (trying to herd us down the hallway by nipping at our feet). Her working dog mentality comes across as more collie-like rather than lab-like too. You see it more in her personality rather than her looks. She's small - under 50 lbs too.

I'm loving everyone's pet pics! I don't have any pets currently, my old apartment didn't allow pets and currently i travel too much for work and work late too often to have pets.

I'll still give naming stories for pets I had named...

- Polly: Named her because she liked to crawl up and sleep on shoulders when she was a puppy. I had said "Polly wanna cracker?" in a parrot voice one time and it stuck. She was originally named Sasha.

- Reese (dog): Her coloration made me think of Reese cups.

- Abby (cat): I was really into names at that point and I had a name book, so I grabbed that and started reading names out for my mom. We went with Abby. Sometimes called her Abby-Cadabby.

Also I once had a hermit crab named Beethoven. I have no idea why I chose that name. I also once wanted to name a parakeet Sylvester. My mom convinced me that Tippie was a better name for a parakeet.

I had a million pets growing up and it would take all day to name all of their origin stories.

@jenna8984 I would be PISSED if I drove all the way to work because no one told me not to come in! Ugh. Thank goodness it was warm last night so you weren't freezing out in the truck and glad there was no carbon monoxide. I'd be wide awake after that too.

@jenna8984 that's ridiculous that you didn't receive the text alert. We had a lot of strays at my mom's so would always name them and their kittens. There was a Kitty and Cat-Cat at one point haha

Ha! @labro @twodimes - I could not walk Rajah more than two blocks in the city of Chicago without someone stopping us to pet the fluffy butt. I mean .... stop their cars, pull over and say "CAN I PET HIM?!?" while running towards us. I actually started wearing makeup and non-sweats out on our walks because I was so embarrassed to look grubby next to him. I think that cuteness was a genetic survival technique for him...he was a stubborn and needy little puppy.

I don't have a fun naming story. After looking at her picture, the name Zoey (spelling and all) immediately came to mind. H liked it, so that's what we called her.

The rescue named her "Louise" because her brothers were named "Huey" and "Dewey." Her foster mom nicknamed her "Weezy." hahaha

I'll let you guys in on a little secret too. We plan to get a sister for her next January. We found an amazing corgi breeder nearby with a year-long wait list (which is fine because that was our ideal timeline anyway), so next year we'll have one of these fur balls:

@eilis1228 - Yeah for an expanding puppy family!!!

Also, I have a penchant for naming pets correctly but not knowing I named them correctly until their personalities start to show. Rajah means "the king/prince" and he obviously act like it. The cat I named "Bjorn" was as mean as a bear...seriously, the meanest cat I've ever owned. I had a cat named "Pumpkin" who turned out to be a rolly-polly to the EXTREME (she weighed more than a small dog) and the list goes on. The funniest naming story (and which I've shared but I'll share again) I have though is my parents naming our Akita "Fire"...he liked to escape A LOT...imagine calling out that name at 2 am as you roam the neighborhood searching. lol

@speakeasy14 I totally have done things in storms that I shouldn't. Growing up it was a huge no-no to bathe during a storm, now I don't give a shit. I feel like my chances of getting zapped are slim. I also watch tv and use the computer. Never installed a ceiling fan though, hah!

@lavenderfields13 Hopefully the neighbor was just being dramatic about "water pouring" and it was just a drip. I think at most they would cut the ceiling to let it dry out and then patch it.

@jenna8984 Even though it kept you up, I'm glad you were cleared to go back into your house! CO is no joke! That sucks about the text though, I've had things like that happen during snowstorms, I would make it to work and find out no one needed to be at work, and then would have to drive back through it.

@TwoDimes LOL at Uncle Gus/Octavius! I had several hamsters named Gus. Not at the same time, just that we kept naming hamsters Gus. My Mom named the first one though, and she probably named him for Gus Gus.

This evening there is an event downtown for local farmers, like an indoor farmer's market. I'm going after work and I am SO pumped about it. It's all local food, so that includes vegetables, dry goods, candies, jams, etc. I'm pumped. I'll probably want to buy everything though.

@minskat30 My grandparents had an Akita when I was little- her name was Kita- very original lol. I got to name their next dog- Shelly. I like my animals to have human names for some reason. Except I named one of their cats Bman when I was like 3 or 4 it was supposed to be Batman but I couldn't say it right- I guess I was obsessed with Batman when I was really little lol

My BF wanted a "person name". I kept throwing out dorky names like Phil, Frank, Josh, haha....... I finally said Marvin, and he liked it because Marv is his favorite character from Sin City (also mine, but I didn't remember the character's name). It turned out to be the perfect name because our dog is such a brawler, and he can do ridiculous things that should hurt badly but don't seem to phase him at all.

Other pet's names:

1st childhood pets - my mom rescued a puppy from a kill shelter around Easter the year before I was born. Because it was around Easter she named the dog Bunny. Around the same time my dad was walking home from work and heard a squeaky cry coming from an alley. There was a dumpster and inside was a newborn kitten. He brought the kitten home and my parents had to bottle feed him because he was so tiny. Since he was found in a dumpster they named him Barnacle (Barney).

Jet - Jet was an old beagle that we rescued my senior year of hs. My youngest sister was volunteering at an animal shelter and came home crying that there was an old dog who was going to die there, and deserved to die in a home not in a cage. My mom ended up caving and we adopted him, and kept the name the shelter gave him. When we rescued him the vet said he was 14. 5 years later he was still alive and his last vet appointment said he was 9. He also was on his deathbed, having several strokes, and would bounce back like nothing ever happened (this happened for two years straight). Even the vet was stumped. His nickname was Jesus.

Other pets I've had:

Cats... we had a lot of strays and kittens, so names started really cute Snuggles, Cuddles, Bubbles, Patches, Tiki, Lilo & Stitch... then they started being color based... Blacky, Whitey, Stripey, Onyx... then they got inappropriate
