I'm just so sad I don't have any puppy pictures! But it's not like I wish I had any other dog in the world. I got him already house trained, so that was definitely a blessing.

RE: Other Animal Names - As a small kid we had tons of animals. All of the animals except for the cats were named after Disney characters, so there were the dogs Meeko and Ariel, and the rabbits Belle and Gaston. We went crazy with the cat names, because we had so many we eventually ran out of ideas. We called one "Spitty Kitty" because she spit.

Tater, who recently passed, was actually named Tater Salad, from that Ron White bit, haha. It wasn't until later that we realized how much he resembled a tater tot!

@TwoDimes, @minskat30, @speakeasy14 - Marv loves you too! If he met you he'd snuggle the crap out of you. And then possibly tackle you.

Good morning! We had insane thunderstorms here last night too - they started right after I went to bed, and it was literally the LOUDEST thunder I've ever heard in my life, and it just kept on going, and the whole house shook. Even sweet Violet, who isn't EVER bothered by thunder/fireworks/anything climbed up into bed with me for snuggles because it was so loud.

And it's still raining today. BLAH.

I LOVE everyone's furbabies. I want to snuggle all of them.

I have no baby pictures of any of mine because they were all rescues.

I adopted Brady when I lived alone. His name was Douglas at the shelter, and that just didn't seem like a proper cat name, so he was named after the GOAT, Tom Brady. He was 1.5 years old when I adopted him - this is a TimeHop from last April on our four-year anniversary. I didn't realize how little he used to be!

He gets Brady Douglas LastNameCombo (My maiden name starts with "La" so I just add that onto my married name lol) when he's in trouble.

Violet has always been Violet. We got her when she was five, so we didn't want to change her name at that point. Plus, it just fits her. She's a Vi.

She was a chunk - they were feeding her like, Dog Chow, and she wasn't getting any exercise. We started feeding her good food and taking her for walks & such and she lost a good 10 lbs, right away.

Bruschi was Quigley at the Humane Society. It didn't fit, and @buddysmom80 already has a Quigley! I have ALWAYS wanted a dog named Bruschi - Tedy Bruschi is my all-time favorite football player/Patriot. When we went to the Humane Society to meet him, I just knew it was the perfect name for him - he's little, stocky, and rough & tumble.

This was the day we brought him home. He was 10 months old and about 45 lbs. - he took no time at all to settle in, as you can see:

We also had a VERY EXCITING moment last night. Brady & Bruschi were nose to nose, sniffing each other, and everyone was fine and happy and there was no chasing and no hissing!! I almost cried.

@goldenpenguin the thunder was so loud that we heard glass shaking. Not sure if it was the window, a candle, a picture frame, etc. H goes "what the hell is that?" and I said "Jurassic Park!!" All I could picture was a dino stomping and a glass of water shaking hahahahah. OMG I love your doggie snuggles with each other!!

Well, I had a spotting incident overnight so I'm on bed rest today. Glad there's a happenin' thread in here because I'm bored!

I don't have any puppy pictures of Bax because we got him at 1.5 years. And I have some of Bella, but I have to go dig them off of a photo CD or something, so I'll share another time. She was the cutest little black Cairn furball! There is one from her breeder's webpage (Past Puppies) so I'll post that one here. She loved to knock all the toys out of the toy basket and then take naps in it. What a mess!!

Re: furbabies I love every single picture in this thread. Thanks for sharing all the furbabies before I start a long day at work! All of them are adorable and I want to play with all of them!

FI and I don't have any of our own right now, but we both grew up with pets and definitely want them when we own our own house. My 3 dogs growing up all were rescues, so I can share some pictures of them later with naming conventions. And I can share some of FI's family's pets and naming conventions too.

Anyways, just wanted to pop in to say hi, that I am still alive, can't wait to leave for Kauai this weekend, and that I have an interview in NY the week after we get back from our trip! Good thing too because I am so done with this job.

@AlPacina I am trying! So my manager asked us to start recording our off time hours (which is any work done after 7:30 pm or on weekends). In the past week and a half, I worked 29 hours during those times, in addition to the 40-50 hours during regular business hours. And my work has been constantly like that for the past 4 weeks. Needless to say, I haven't had much time for anything else in my life lately. But I have missed everyone here too!

This thread is exactly what I needed.

All the baby puppies are amazing and adorable and my heart is better because of it.

Last night, H and I ran to Target and left the dogs in the backyard to potty before bed. We got back around 10:45 and let them in. Stevie has some pre-existing scar tissue from whatever his poor life brought his way before he came to us. The spot on his leg, about an inch wide and two inches long, was completely torn off. You could see everything.

I tried so hard to stay calm, especially since Stevie was just wandering around like a boss. I'm normally the blood and guts person in our family, but I made H clean the gravel out before I bandaged it.

The emergency vet said we could wait until the morning to take him in, so I called first thing this morning. They should be taking him in to do a little cleaning and stitches "operation" right this second. He'll be good as new tonight when H goes to pick him up.

I barely slept at all last night. I stayed up and stress-cleaned. When I got home from the vet this morning, Molly searched all over the house and backyard for Stevie. It broke my already broken heart.

Here's a picture of Stevie the day we got him:

His name was Stevie at the rescue. H liked it, so we kept it. He looked like a little gentleman.

Here he is now, a much bigger chunk.

I found molly on Craigslist when she was 5. Her name was Anna, but I didn't like it. I wanted to name her after a Weasley, with her reddish brown spot. She's very much a Molly Weasley.

Here she is today, wondering where Stevie is.

Okay, so naming conventions of my dogs that I grew up with.

-My first dog was a retired racer greyhound, whose track name was Time after Time. He was a champion dog, and was clocked at 52 mph on the track. The rescue organization shortened his track name to Timer. He weighed 102 pounds! We got him when I was 6, and we had him for 3 years. He loved to run, but he ended up getting a disease from catching crows mid-flight in our backyard and died from that.

Disclaimer: I don't condone dog racing, as they aren't treated very well most of the time, but that was the history of Timer, and we gave him a good home after his track days.

-A few months after Timer passed away, my family was camping at the Adirondack Balloon Festival, but it was a rainy weekend and the balloons couldn't launch. There was an animal shelter across the street from the airfield, so my parents and I decided to go have a look. The first dog they brought out was a beautiful blonde and white husky. They found her on the street eating garbage so the shelter named her Foxytail because she looked like a fox. We adopted her and shortened it to Foxy. It turns out that she was a child of divorce, and the couple decided to give her away to a family friend. The family friend dumped her on the street and told the couple she had been hit and killed by a car. The shelter actually was able to track down the guy who dumped her and was pressing charges against him. Interestingly enough, Foxy was brought into the shelter the day Timer died, and waited there until we adopted her. Foxy lived with us for 9 years, and died from old age. I was a senior in high school and about to graduate.

-Two weeks after my parents dropped me off for my freshmen year of college, I get a text from my dad that they adopted a puppy. He is an Australian Shepherd and Yellow Lab mix, and was going to be put down in a Georgia shelter because he wasn't purebred. A northeast rescue organization was able to rescue him before that happened, but his siblings weren't so lucky. He was 8 weeks old when my parents adopted him. They named him Merlin, because his mother was a red merle aussie. My parents still have Merlin, and he doesn't leave my side every time I visit them, and apparently cries for days after I leave. I basically consider him my dog.
