Why don't you just ask her to be a bridesmaid? Or ask her to do a reading? Or have uneven sides and your wedding will *gasp* still actually be valid?

Please don't ask her to be a "personal attendant."

Also - what's the deal with the dropped groomsman? I'm on the edge of my seat here.
They want the dresses ordered at least 8 months before the date and we are down to 6 months now, so I am at fault there for the timing/unpreparedness. I will be asking her to do a reading. Also, for the record (for anyone who addressed it) I know that the day will go on if there are uneven sides. That is really not a concern of mine. If making it even works out,
Who wants the dresses ordered that early?
I have been in 5 weddings so far and I hardly remember the time span in which we got the dresses. All I knew is that I didn't want anyone to have them too early. I had a BM dress 10 months before a wedding once. That was the time frame I was actually finding to be quite common, and it is especially true with this brand of dresses, Bill Levkoff. Apparently, once these dresses come in the waist size isn't always true to their size chart so they like to save room for shipping them back to be altered accordingly or to alter them in house if the time isn't there. We were informed of this once we had our hearts set on this brand, which has a very nice variety of styles (their dresses are the same length, color, and material, from there I let them pick what they preferred). While I am not much of a gambler, I took my chances there because I feel like 8 months is an exaggerated "let's play it safe" window. Crossing my fingers that it doesn't bite me in the butt.

The bridal shop that wants the money excessively early and emotionally guilt-tripped the bride through less than ethical tactics that if she didn't get them ordered AT LEAST a full eight months ahead of time her BM's wouldn't have a dress and would have to walk down the aisle in crinolines and strapless long-lines...  I exaggerate, but knowing many bridal shops I've dealt with, not far off!

I can definitely see that happening (the guilt-tripping, hopefully not the dress alternative :)! And I won't even deny that it could have easily happened to me. I do like having the wiggle room for these dresses (I think we replied around the same time so you can see my scenario below). The time period did work nicely since my sister was home for the holidays, I was able to get 8 people together in one day, and I was on winter break from school. But seriously with emotional guilt tripping I definitely had a "Well sh*t" moment when she informed be that they recommended 8 months for these dresses, with the big day being 8 months and 4 days away. My hunch is that if you had been in the store 7 months and 4 days before your wedding, they would have recommended 7 months for the dresses.

    Edited for spelling
