@eilis1228 Fingers crossed that nothing comes up and you can pay off that loan in time! I love seeing my debt go down and watching my savings account grow. H is nothing like me when it comes to savings- he doesn't like having a separate savings account because he doesn't spend all his money- I'm like what is wrong with you that you don't love watching your money grow!
@beachyone15 – Getting money you weren’t expecting is THE GREATEST! Congrats!
@labro – Your desk is so clean! I’m constantly printing things off to mark on them.
@wink0erin – Living with your BF is probably going to be so fun! I should have seen a red flag with my ex on the day I moved in and he didn’t lift a finger to help me. Why I didn’t move back out that exact day, I’ll never know. Current BF helped with everything related to my move, and I took that as an amazing sign for us, haha. I hope you have a blast in Orlando!

Today is my Friday, yay!! Tomorrow is that day of chaos and a billion appointments.
I was really glad I had a happy hour planned with a girl I met at work last night, because I was still sad about my friend when I left the office. It turns out this other girl and I are totally meant to be friends! We have basically everything in common, and it also sounds like her H and my BF have a ton in common too. I texted her when I got home that "Telling my BF about hanging out with you kind of feels like telling your BFF about a really great first date." Haha
In talking to this girl she really motivated me to fight back against not getting the promotion I felt like I was more than qualified for. I have a huge list of arguments written out as to why I wasn't given a fair opportunity, and I think I stand a chance.
What are you wearing today?
Wow, I could not get a good picture of myself today. But yes, I have a hipster panda on my shirt.
If you got a new pet, what would you name it?
I have no actual good ideas so I'll go the inside joke route (calling @untouchablets) and say Fishbutt's Dig Up Your Garden. Actual name, Jennifer or La-a.
Where is the next place that you are flying to? CHICAGO! It's gonna be the greatest!!!!
What is the last thing that you bought? A Monster and bagel this morning.
@AlPacina - That panda is so fly. I'm glad you had so much fun last night! That's really awesome. I wish I had more IRL friends nearby but I don't know how to lol
@AlPacina - That panda is so fly. I'm glad you had so much fun last night! That's really awesome. I wish I had more IRL friends nearby but I don't know how to lol
This. Both the panda & the nearby friends. We really need a compound.
@swazzle - This chick got added to a cross-agency policy-related team I'm on at work. I wouldn't have met her otherwise. She's the only one that laughed at one of my jokes where I made fun of someone, so I wrote her a message the next day asking her out. Basically the same as dating, haha. I said "Do you like beer?" and she said "No, but I love food." so I said "Me too! Wanna get some sometime?" and she said "Yes."
@TwoDimes - It is so hard to make friends as a grown up! I have exactly 1 friend here. I feel really lonely lots of the time. Which is why I have NEY! :-)
Really the only friend I have here that I hang out with on a regular basis is the girl who was my bridesmaid along with @swazzle. H & her BF (HOPEFULLY soon to be FI) get along really well, so we do stuff with them. Other than that, the people I have been close with her over the years all have kids, so they're all out doing mommy/kid stuff all the time.
And, to be perfectly honest, making plans exhausts me. I really love my routine of going home, putting on PJs and snuggling with my husband and puppies (and hopefully kitten in the mix soon... he's getting there.) #sorrynotsorry
@TwoDimes - My bestie that got the diagnosis yesterday is in her 50s, but she lives like she's younger. I'm not too picky. I signed up to volunteer for the group that maintains all the local dog parks too, so I'm hoping to meet some new people (with dogs!!) this spring during the clean up days.
A lot of the people I hung out with after moving down here are married with children now and don't make as much time for me anymore. I'm trying to expand my friend group because I've been feeling lonely lately. NEY helps with that A LOT though.
I'm not from here so I don't have a lot/any friends except for my work friends and I've lost touch with a lot of them. I've also broken up with a few friends because I can't take a ton of negativity. NEY has greatly improved my social life even if I've never met most of you. It's nice to have people to talk to besides BF also making plans gives me horrible anxiety and I'm always afraid of being stood up lol
re not many friends: my bf and I had this conversation last night. He's friends with a group of people I don't particularly like (really just one girl out of the group), but they're the only friends he has that are childless and want to hang out. So I am going to try to get to know them better. I love sitting at home and lounging, but I also want to go out and have fun. All my friends are either far away or have kids. And when he's out and I'm sitting home, sometimes it just gets lonely. And as much as I love my nieces and nephews, sometimes I just want to be around adults only.
@twodimes - the worst part about living far away from my family is that I don't get lots of sweet nephew time My sister gets to babysit our nephew all the time, and I've only met him once. We're closer (proximity) to H's brother & SIL, and we visit w/his family a lot more often, so I'll probably end up being closer (relationship) with that niece or nephew (we find out in two weeks!), and that hurts my heart a little bit.
Yeah, count me in for the very few friends things. We have been trying to go out with other couples and it just hasn't been working. However a friend of BF's from work lives about 10 houses down from us and we have been getting to know them better. BF is going to his Bach party in June and they actually invited a bunch of people out to a bar and they sat me and the FI together so that we could "get to know each other." It was like a date like @AlPacina said. BF later told me him and the FI were watching and commenting like "This is going really well! Look at them getting along!"
@speakeasy14 I feel you on the BF only having a few friends. I really only like one of BF's friends and we only see him once a year. I've tried for nearly 7 years to like the rest of them, and just when I think they've started to respect me and our relationship they blow it again. I never look forward to seeing them, and when I do I don't have fun, so I wind up just sitting out of things even though I want to be included.
RE: no friends...I totally relate to this. Like @GoldenPenguinI don't generally want to do stuff after work during the week. I had no friends here until December when I made an effort to befriend the wife of one of H's friends. Now we talk every day, commute to and from work together most days, and hang out every weekend. Life is so much better. But I don't feel the need to have a large friend group.
@twodimes - That story breaks my heart because I think you're awesome and I'd love to get snowed in with Indy! I had a similar experience. Last spring H had a soccer game with 2 of his friends. I decided I needed to make an effort to befriend his friend's wives so I invited them over for brunch while the boys played soccer. They said they'd come but then when the day rolled around they went MIA. I sat on my couch with food and mimosas waiting for hours until they texted to say they were too hungover to come. I was so embarrassed. Fast forward 7 months to my bachelorette party and they did the same thing. After that I decided I was done with those bitches.
Count me in on the few friends too, especially girlfriends. It's really hard to make friends as an adult. H and I have a male best friend that we hang out with a lot and talk to daily, and he just started dating someone. I'm going to meet her Friday, and I'm really nervous because I want to make a good impression. It very much feels like a first date.
On a different note, I'm really excited because H and I made a reservation to go to a fancy brunch on Sunday to belatedly celebrate our dating anniversary. We got a gift card to one of the nicest restaurants in the area as a wedding gift, but we don't really want to have a nice dinner there--we're way more intrigued by brunch. I can't wait!
This afternoon, as with every other freaking day this week, is dragging!
I think I just decided to skip work drinks tonight and instead text H when I'm about 15 mins away on the train and tell him to meet me at our favorite sushi restaurant for an impromptu date.
I'm in the mood to try something new so what do you all get when you have sushi?
@TwoDimes hahahaha I actually ordered "mimosa, hold the orange juice" a couple of weeks ago at brunch with some friends. They were waaaaay too heavy on the OJ and too light on the champagne. It was an atrocity. Brunch is the best thing ever.
We need to buy an island so we can all live together and be more than internet friends. This will be the NEY compound, there's plenty of room for all of us, plus all the furbabies:
I can't even see the word mimosa without reliving the August NYC get together. The lady gave me a freaking wine glass because she forgot me and I instantly lost track of how much I drank, and then it all hit me on the train ride home. Ah, memories.
@TwoDimes Your story is not pathetic at all. I had something similar happen on my 19th birthday. I had 30 friends invited and all confirmed they were coming. Throughout the day, every single one of them texted or called saying something had come up and they couldn't come. An hour after my party was supposed to start, no one had shown up. My mom called the family I baby sat for around the corner and they brought the two boys over to play. My ex BF found out everyone cancelled and showed up with his brothers. My dad invited two guys that were my age that he sang with and they came over. Ever since then, I totally hated birthdays. I totally feel you and validate your pity party 100%.
I told @eilis1228 my story last year and she threw me the coolest party with friends and everything. That's when I figured she was a keeper.
@alpacina You look amazing!! I love a good new-friend-date. The best ones are when it feels like you're gushing about a new crush. Those friends usually stick around longest and make your life most fun.
@Swazzle I'm so glad your arm thing is perfectly normal. Doctor visits are too stressful for there to actually be something wrong. And, I'm insanely jealous of your new view. I was already jealous of your old one, but for real, you could send me a picture of Manhattan every day and I would never get tired of it.
@untouchablets I've felt similarly about getting a fitbit, but I can't seem to bite the bullet and buy one.
1-What are you wearing today? (bonus points for pictures) A baggy tshirt, my BU sweatpants, and slippers. No one wants to see pictures of this hot m
2-If you got a new pet, what would you name it? I have no idea. I like naming pets people names, but H and I are busy trying to keep our current dogs alive.
3-Where is the next place that you are flying to? El Paso for work and then Chicago!!
4-What is the last thing that you bought? cough drops, mucinex, and pregnancy tests
I feel like death this morning, so I'm lounging around on my couch and drinking all the water. Oh, also, it's almost one pm, so apparently not morning anymore?
Last night after bible study with the childrens, I hauled ass to the north side of town to do the Mean Girls quote along with @eilis1228. It was SO MUCH FUN and totally worth getting home late and hack-coughing my whole way through the movie. I ordered one of the specialty cocktails (The Burn Book) without realizing it had jalapenos in it.
Tonight H and I are taking Stevie to the vet for his follow up appointment. He's been stumbling a lot more in the mornings and I want to see what that's all about. The problem seems to be in his back legs, not his front where the injury is.
Other than that, the insanity that is Spring Break begins tomorrow night. We've got daily activities with the kids, I get sung into the chorus on Tuesday, Thursday I'm having breakfast with @cu97tiger and @eilis1228, then hauling ass to Houston late that night.
@twodimes I am incredibly jealous of your Sunday ritual. Also, since those bitches are married to H's 2 best friends, unfortunately they will be in my life for the foreseeable future. I could go on an on with the stories of how horrible these girls are. One of them spent my entire rehearsal dinner (which she was 3 hours late to), part of my wedding reception (she was also late to my ceremony), and part of the brunch the next day showing random people pictures from HER wedding.....which was 18 months ago and was actually a PPD because she actually got married 15 months before that. At my engagement party she also said that she would be so sad if her proposal hadn't been a surprise.....right after I had told her that I knew it was coming before H proposed. Come to find out later her proposal wasn't a surprise at all because she gave her H an ultimatum: propose to me by X date or I'm going back to my ex. My hate for her knows no end.
ETA: She also loves to lie and tell everyone that she and H paid for their wedding (actually PPD), when in fact her parents paid for it. I don't care who paid for your wedding or how much it cost. Just don't lie about it. They also took $12k from his parents for their HM, but only spent $6k and pocketed the rest.
Re: Oh hi, Thursday, good to see you
Why are you so far away?!
@untouchablets I have the plum one too
@CocoBellaF Noooooooooo! Stupid weather getting in the way of fun. Maybe they'll do another one this year?
@Swazzle – I had no idea you had THAT kind of view! Holy shit! My view is Dave. . . Glad that your derm appt was NBD!
@lavenderfields13 – Delilah is one of the most gorgeous names ever!
@beachyone15 – Getting money you weren’t expecting is THE GREATEST! Congrats!

You're definitely not alone. Not including people I met on TK or H's friends, I have 1 IRL friend (my BFF/MOH from college).
I'm not from NJ and even though I went to college in NYC, I fell out of touch with pretty much everyone.
H is from here and his friends/family are within 30 minutes of our house so he has no idea what it's like.
On a different note, I'm really excited because H and I made a reservation to go to a fancy brunch on Sunday to belatedly celebrate our dating anniversary.
