Not Engaged Yet

give me a ringg! Help?

Ok so by boyfriend and I have been together for three years, known each other for seven years. And I want him to ask me to marry him soooo bad! Not that I want to get married RIGHT NOW or anything. A long engagement is FINE with me. The problem: were young! I've never acted my age and I am totally ready to be engaged, and i think my boyfriend is too. He knows i want to move things along, but I think he is worried about what people will think because were young. Should I try to make it happen faster? Or let fate take its course?

    OP -

How old are you? How long have you been dating?

Why do you want to get engaged "RIGHT NOW"?

    Have you talked about marriage?

Are you both financially independent? Have you gone to school? Do you have a job? Are you a student?

Unless you are, in fact, under the age of 15 I think you've proven that.  Just not in the way you intended.

I don't understand why it's so important to be engaged if you have no intention of getting married for a long time.  That mentality also makes you seem immature.

I suggest you throw a surprise engagement party (don't tell him) and invite all your friends and family, and then he'll be forced to propose when he realizes what's happening. Right?

Alternatively, give the engagement chicken a try.

There's your beebee tiara, doll. Enjoy.

Until you can properly spell, realize that you are not, in fact, growner that you are, and recognize that there's a big difference between a marriage and a pretty princess wedding, the only ring you need are those pretty pink plastic ones you get out of the gumball machines at the arcade.

You're 19 which is way too young to be thinking about this.

Also, lymphoma does not make you smarter, more mature or ready for such a big life step. I'm sorry that you have to go through that but it's just another reason you should take a step back and take more time for yourself.

No one who comes off sounding like a gigantic spoiled brat is going to get a warm welcome. If you had so much time to lay around looking at the knot all the time you might have done yourself a favor and read the bylaws or even payed attention to how we respond to beebees there's been a lot of examples of what not to do around here lately.

    1) I am so sorry that you are having to go through everything that you are going though. However, from what I can find, your prognosis is good and you should have a long and healthy life, with some help from modern medicine of course. And no, I don't have your charts or anything.

    2) Everything we said still applies. Go to college, sew some wild oats, have a good time. Don't worry about a ring and all that jazz. You have time.

PS- I personally have a lot of cancer experience, so I'm not just talking out my tush.

I'm so sorry to hear you are not feeling well and have been diagnosed with this nasty disease. But we don't exactly get your medical records through osmosis on a web board, so we reserve the right not to buy the guilt trip offered above. (Note: you also say you don't need to get married RIGHT NOW and are prepared for a LONG engagement, so we had no reason to think you had health problems.)

If you HAD told us this ahead of time, you would have received the same advice - only maybe even stronger warnings to wait. If you're under significant stress (as any chronic or serious illness can cause) you're not in a great position to make a major decision. You've known this guy since you were twelve. Regardless of health situation, we would have told you to wait until you're older and have met some more people.

"My Girl" was a movie. It wasn't real. Most people don't meet their life-long mate until at least their mid or late 20s. Twelve is pretty young...
