Jelous of Brides who don't live here!

I keep seeing these amazing weddings in the Midwest/South, etc- and am BLOWN away by what you can get for the money there. Planning a wedding in Boston sucketh.

Re: Jelous of Brides who don't live here!

  • Yup, weddings in the south seem to be muuuuch cheaper, and still so cute! I'm hoping when the time comes I can convince T....
  • It's amazing- you really get so much more for the money! I know cost of living is different, as well. But seriously- jealous!
  • I can't imagine.  Luckily I'm planning a wedding in the midwest (Cincinnati) from Boston!  HA!  Although, it ain't exactly cheap.  Especially for 250+ people.

I was so jealous when a friend of mine bought a little house in Cincinnati for 150K, and here we can't even touch one like that for 300K.
  • This is why I am never leaving Louisville.  At my wedding we had surf and turf and a full open bar for $46/head.

  • Oh, I know- a friend and I are looking at the same houses (size, bedrooms/bathrooms etc)- she and her fi just bought one in VA for about 200K. That same house here would be MIN 600K. Sigh.

250+ people anywhere won't be cheap, but at least since you're doing it there it's doable- I can't imagine trying to plan a wedding w/ that many people for less than 40-50K here. Ugh.

  • No personal income tax here in Florida either; bonus! :-)

You make up for it in property taxes though!

  • Yeah, prop tax in my town is crazy- my house is 980 square feet, on just under .25 acres,  and I pay about 8.5K a year in propery tax. Yell
  • Weddings, and everything else, are crazy expensive in California. Its like the price of everything triples when you say "wedding." Its sooooo irritating.

I'm with you on the housing prices.  My brother and SIL in Cincinnati just bought a four bedroom house for less than half what we paid for our three bedroom townhouse here.

I'd think twice about that.  Ohio's job situation is really bad and I don't see it getting any better.  FI and I are both white collar professionals and had to leave because there were no jobs after we were laid off.  Blue collar jobs are not there like they used to be either.  The southwestern end of the state (Columbus to Cincinnati) is holding its own, but the northerneastern part where we lived along with the southereastern and northwestern corners where my job took me several days a week are in bad shape.

  • Housing prices make me cry.  Everything is so inflated here because a large number or people who work in DC live in Maryland.  But people who work in MD make a lot less than our DC counterparts, so I can only afford to buy a place that's really rundown or in the ghetto. Fun!

  • I feel your pain...In Jersey the house prices are horrific, property taxes kill us and to hold a small wedding here would run us over $20k.

    It's painful!!!
