  Good news! We had negotiations with FMIL and we came to middle ground of a regularly planned cocktail party where we will attend and be introduced as newlyweds but no trappings of a re-do or wedding anything. The best part is FI managed to make her think that this was her idea and she is now very happy that we agreed to her cocktail party. I think it will be her regular Christmas cocktail party which is even better as it will be very holiday themed and nothing close to wedding like. Thanks again for all your thoughts and support. Most appreciated

  This all sounds a little too weird! I'd say no, but if you feel the need to compromise or keep the peace, I'd offer some alternatives. Cocktails and appetizers, or a post wedding brunch. Something low-key with none of the re-enactments.

  Thanks. That is exactly what we negotiated (attending an annual holiday cocktail party) as I mentioned in my post above yours. Very low key and none of the trappings of a wedding.

  Good job! I was thinking she shouldn't get to invite any friends unless she's paying for their meals, a difference in price for getting a larger venue, etc. but the cocktail party is a much better option!
