For those planning Oahu weddings....

Hey girls,

I just wanted you to know that I'm on Oahu and I can't imagine how hard it is to plan a wedding from afar. So, as I go through the planning and site visits and tastings, I'll be more than happy to pass on my opinions and any pricing information I find out along the way if anyone is interested! Just a small way for me to help and give back. :)

    That's awesome to know!

It definitely isn't easy planning everything from out of state and having pretty much no idea what you're doing haha.

    Thanks a lot Lisa!!

That is so generous of you and would be so helpful for me. I am planning out Oahu wedding from Canada. I am looking into wedding coordinators now because i don't know what has a good reputation adn what doesn't. But any info you could pass along would be wonderful. Where are you planning on getting married? We are looking at Turtle Bay resort and Lanikuhouna as top contenders right now.

Hope you have a great time. I'm just wondering if it's really windy on Waikiki. I'm still trying to decide if I want all of my hair up or just half!

<em><font color="#800080">You're most welcome! I have a site visit set up for Paradise Cove on November 3rd. I'll be sure to pass that info on. It's very close to Lanikuhonua. I will probably be checking out Turtle Bay as well, altho I think we've pretty much decided against it because of the price point.

We're actually really looking to have both the reception and ceremony at the Waikiki Aquarium. :) They keep the exhibits open for your event AND you get beach, sunset, diamond head and waikiki views...all for a VERY affordable price. :) Hope that helps a little.

Thank you all for the great tips. @ Destiny1108, I have heard a lot of good things about Hawaii weddings and events and Lanikuhonua. I will definitely send them a request for proposal this week. I originally wanted Katy Castillo but she is all booked up and referred me to Milestone Events. They look like they do a great job as well but we would be looking at approximately $3000 for their services..this seems a bit  high for me, but I have not got any other prices yet.

@misslisa leo- I will definitely have to look into Paradise Cove and the Waikik Aquarium. I received a quote from Turtle Bay and they are actually quite reasonable in comparison to Koolina and Kahala. That would be great if you could keep me up to date with all of your findings. I really hope we will be able to make a trip out there this winter to check everything out, but unfortunately money doesn't grow on trees. :-)

Thanks, Lisa!  It would be great to get your opinion on vendors as you do your planning!  When is your wedding?  Mine is May 31, 2012 and we've booked Turtle Bay, but I am still in the process of deciding on other vendors.

amwong22: I am also planning my destination wedding from Canada!  Also looking into whether or not I will need a WC right now.  I've exchanged a couple emails with Hawaii Weddings and Events, and I was also going to contact Katy Castillo to get her pricing information.  Let me know what you decide on!

@ Noreenchiu- I have emailed with Dianna from Hawaii Weddings and Events, but have not yet talked to her on the phone. I wanted Katy Castillo originally, but she is all booked up for 2012 and referred me to Alicia from Milestone Events. I spoke with Alicia last week for about an hour on the phone and really got a good vibe from her. I'd like to schedule a call with Dianna from Hawaii Weddings and Events because I feel speaking to them in person really gives you an idea if whether or not you will mesh well or not. I was leaning towards just day coordinator or partial coordination but for the $500 or so price difference we are thinking of just going with the full coordination to make life easier for ourselves since we are so far away. Where are you getting married?

@Misslisaleo- If you are still planning on going to Turtle Bay and Paradise Cove tomorrow, I would love to hear your opinion on the two. Another contender that I am looking at now is Kuluoa Ranch and Loulou Palms Estate.

Hi Ladies...I haven't been on this site that often...been busy planning my wedding I guess!  But I just booked my last official vendor for my Oahu July 2012 wedding so I guess I've got more free time on my hands (yeah right)!  Anyhow, I wanted to echo misslisaleo's offer.  If anyone is planning a DW to Oahu and has questions just shoot me an email to jodiejulybride@gmail.com and I'll help in whatever way I can.  I've been to a ton of weddings here locally (more or less grew up on Oahu) so I know a lot of the reception venues, and have gone to every Bridal Expo for the last 3 years!  Might as well put all this "knowledge" to use.  Best of luck to all of you!

Has anyone had a wedding dinner at a Resurant. We are from Seattle and my fiance's brother is a Musican in Oahu so he has been helping as much as possible but I can't seem to get anyone to call me back. I have looked into Roy's, Dukes and a few others. We are coming from Seattle and will have about 30 guest. Oct 2012!

I haven't been to a wedding dinner at a restaurant personally but I could totally see how it could work, especially for a party your size. Where are you doing your ceremony? Do you want to keep everything in Waikiki or are you open to driving outside of Waikiki? I would suggest Roy's in Hawaii Kai (there is a Roy's in Waikiki but the Hawaii Kai Roy's is The Original) and the service is awesome. You could rent a trolley or shuttle to get your guest to and from the restaurant. Dukes in Waikiki is good but kind of low key and casual, so it depends what you are going for. Right above Duke's there is a nicer restaurant, Sunset Grill, I think is the name, and they have the same great view but a nicer ambience. Wait, I lied, last month I went to Tiki's for my first wedding reception at a restaurant. It was fun, the food was tasty and the staff was helpful so that is another option for you. Hope this helps!
  • Hi There.

I'm considering having my wedding reception at Tiki's Grill (in the Coconut Club on the 21st floor).  At first I chose Tiki's due to budget but I am finding it is adding up quickly since they charge $800 room rental & $100 bar set up.  Plus I have to order chairs if I don't want the ugly conference room chairs for my dinner tables.

I just viewd a virtual tour of the interior of the Coconut Room.  I'm worried it is super 'blah'.  Does anyone have any first hand experience with their reception at the Coconut Room?  Is it nice?  I know the view is nice, but I worry that if you turn your back to the ocean, you feel like you are in a hotel room.  Any advice??

I'm now in stress mode since we are getting married in about a month!
