Wedding Woes

TGIF, y'all

This cold is taking it out of me.  I stuck it out yesterday, but I'm back to daydreaming about leaving early.  My boss is back today and said I sounded terrible, which I felt like opened that door for me.  :)

DH has volunteered to take the kids out tomorrow so I can sleep, which is really nice.  But I'm like a kid myself--I had things I wanted us to do, and inside I'm like "I don't want to take a nap, I want to go outside!"  But c'est la vie, you know?  I'm going straight to bed once the kids are in bed tonight, and hopefully I'll wake up feeling at least 70% better tomorrow.

What's everyone up to this weekend?

Re: TGIF, y'all

  • Tonight, DH wants to start demo on my office (pulling down trim) so he and FIL can install my doors tomorrow.

Tomorrow, my doors are being put in!!

Sunday, IDK but it's going to be gorgeous...so hopefully we'll be outside for the bulk of the day.
  • @6fsn wins on all the levels!  :D
  • I'm so happy for DefConn that it's Friday!

I'm at work for another half hour before I got home, grab my shit and my sister is picking me up to go to St. Louis!! Which also means I have like 9 hours in the car with her over the next two days to convince her to go to a road Bears game or two. We play in Green Bay on our mom's birthday and I wanna go. But the dead mom card doesn't work well on your siblings...

  • I'm soooo glad it's the end of my week.  I think I'm going to take a nice long bath and snuggle in bed early with a book and K.  Saturday is more work on Pride, Sunday is doggie snuggling and a roller derby bout with friends.  Where there is an exceptionally good chance I will run into K's exGF, which hopefully doesn't happen and if it does, doesn't become drama.  That's about it.
  • @VarunaTT are you reading anything good?  I am always on the prowl for new books; it's pretty much the only reason I have a Pinterest account.

@AtomicBlonde I'm finishing Galileo's Middle Finger which is fascinating.  It's a historian of science/journalist writing about what happens when social justice slams into science.  She focuses in on 3 examples of intersex, transgender, and aboriginal tribes (interesting side note: the scientist she talks about for aboriginal tribes, I actually met at a skeptic conference.  I didn't know anything this issue in his past).  I think if you liked "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks", you would like this book.

Started "Fighting God" by David Silverman last night.  He has a good conversational tone and I've always liked/appreciated his style, so I'm looking forward to it.

I just finished "Nimona", which is a lovely graphic novel from Noelle Stevenson about friendship and what makes a hero and what makes a villian and how they're not all that different.  And I'm working my way through Volume 1 of the Lucifer comics.  The story is great; the art is not a style I usually care for, and the lettering, while clever, I find very hard to read, so it's proving to be a bit of a chore.
  • Oh and if you haven't read "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks", you should.  Such an amazing book and totally eye opening for both it's examination of past issues and present.

    A. Maz. Ing. Book!!! I second (and third!) this recommendation.
  • I will definitely check it out!  Thanks!

This is how I've been all week with the sinus + ear infection. The weather has been super nice and I just want to go outside with the dog but all I have the energy for is sleeping inside. Last night H came home and said he wasn't feeling good either. Great.

Hopefully this clears soon and we can salvage some of the weekend.
  • Today has been a weird day.

This morning on the highway there was a car stopped in the middle lane and all of its airbags were deployed. All of them. There were no other cars stopped around it, and it didn't appear to have any dents. And I couldn't see into the car to see if the driver/passengers were okay because the side curtain airbags blocked the view. Very freaky. I called the state police to alert them - in case no one else had - but luckily they knew about it and were on their way. I hope whoever was in that car is okay.

This weekend I'm driving down to NJ for a baby shower for a good friend of mine. It's a lot of driving for one weekend, but I'm super excited to see her. Plus Monday is a holiday so I have Monday to recuperate from the drive at home.
  • Yay for Friday!

I think TK hates me. Everyday for the past week I've had to sign in at least three times before I'm able to comment or anything :(

FI and I were so tired last night that I had a bowl of ceral and Idk what he had for dinner. Then we went to bed and watched tv and this was at like 7:00.

I'm not sure what this weekend holds. I have a nail appointment tomorrow and I would like to clean out my closet. But we will see what happens. FI just texted me to tell me that tomorrow night is the Waterless Boat Races at the local speedway. I think we might go because last year it was A LOT of fun.

  • Hell yes, Friday.

Tonight is a rare baseball-free night.  We are going to do all the lounging.  Supper will be purchased and we may rent some movies.

Tomorrow and Sunday we only have one baseball game each day (also rare).  I do want to be outside as much as possible because I have forgotten what 75* feels like.

  • Working.

Tax season doesn't end this year until April 18 due to a holiday called Emancipation Day in DC which closes the government offices, including the IRS, so they want to give everyone a 3 day weekend-except tax preparers. :-(

I thought it was just me.  I find if I just hit refresh, it seems to take care of it, but it's getting annoying.
  • I am so thankful for Friday. I could cry.

3.5 hours left of "work", i am just starting Salem. (First episode was good enough, moving on to #2 after I finish this post.) 6 hours til we (the dog and I) pick FH up from the airport. Since I work next door to the airport and home is across town we are going to go chill in a park or something. Then a 5 hour drive to FMIL's house. Family dinner tomorrow. I am making a BLT macaroni salad, from Pintrest, I hope is edible. FH and I have massages scheduled for sunday and I would like to grab coffee with a friend before we leave town but I am not holding my breath.

I already do not want to work next week.
  • I just had a massage and am getting a pedicure, right now.

DK and I have a date night planned for tomorrow. We're going to see the Divergent movie. The Pens play tomorrow afternoon, so I'll be watching the game, too.

Sunday, who knows? If the weather is nice and I can get DK to sweep the pool, I'll probably get Wolverine to swim for a bit.

This is one of those weeks where I just want to bang my head against the wall continuously and forcefully. I think I'm finally getting resolution on one project, at least I hope so.  I'm waiting on somebody to get me some needed information on another project, which I'm supposed to have completed today, but won't be able to.

I finished reading The Girl on the Train yesterday, and I'm next up for library hold on 11/22/63, so I should be able to start that one any day now.  But, it could take a day or take a week to come available... I don't know. So, I don't know if I should start another book in the meantime or not.  Every time I do that, the hold book comes available when I'm only a chapter or two into the one.  But, I feel lost not actively a book right now.

I think I need a new doctor.  I went to doctor this week and she gave me a script that is in the same class as one that I'm allergic to. Doctor even asked about my allergy when she wrote the script! Pharmacist caught it when I went to fill.  This is the 2nd time this doctor has prescribed me something where I later had someone say, "Oh, you shouldn't be on that".  Not feeling very confident with having this person in charge of my health and it's frustrating.

Tonight, we are having dinner with the in-laws.  MIL has a bunch of casino comps saved up, so they are taking the whole family to dinner at the high-end steak house at the casino. Yum!

After that, I'm a total procrastinator, so Saturday I am finishing my taxes!

I really liked Season 1 and was very eager for Season 2.  I couldn't find any way to stream the show as it was on (I didn't look too hard), so I just started Season 2 on Netflix.  IDK if I lost some momentum in the wait or something else, but I'm not enjoying Season 2 nearly as much.  It's moving pretty slow.  The costumes are still gorgeous though.

Me too! I hate having to sign in multiple times.

  • Today is a good day. I slept in a little and then went to Starbucks and got some breakfast and coffee. Then, I went and got my emissions test done so I could renew my tag. After that I headed over to the DMV to get my license updated with my married name. Then, hair appointment. I got my hair trimmed and had it highlighted to the point that it is almost platinum blonde. I am pumped. I just came home a few minutes ago, made a mimosa (it's 5 o'clock somewhere right?) and renewed my tag online. Now I'm just waiting for the dishwasher repair person to come.

Yesterday, however, was a good day turned bad. My coworkers took me out to lunch, which was so sweet. I packed my desk up and a few more of my coworkers took me out after work. After that, I went to church for a small group. All of that was awesome!

Then.... I got home. I walked in the door to a HUGE mess. Turns out my youngest dog decided it would be a good idea to eat an ink pen. There were black pawprints and ink splatters EVERYWHERE. All over the floor, the blankets, the couch, her fur. I can laugh about it now, but in the moment I was pissed.

Right after coming home to all of that, my mom called me to let me know that my granddad was being taken to the ER by ambulance due to heart problems. They ended up admitting him. Thankfully it turned out to just be his a-fib acting up and they were able to get his heart back in rhythm. He is home now but he is really weak. I am so relieved. That was so scary.

    Glad your grandpa is home.
FWIW, if you can't get the ink out, homeowners insurance covers when dogs eat pens.
Ask me how I know :0P
  • @GBCK this sounds like a story I want to hear!!!!

We'v had it happen more than once, because our pets are talented like that.  Once w/ my gramps's dog.  Once w/ Dawg.  Once w/ the Mr's long-haired cat when it fell into a tray of avocado green house-paint (and ran through 4 rooms, shaking as it ran)
But when Dawg was a wee tiny puppy, The Mr. and I went on vacation.  My ILs agreed to puppy-sit.  Which was awesome, because she was a wee tiny puppy, and I didn't want to board her yet--she needed lots of attention.

Now, my ILs are dog people--but it had been a very VERY long time since they had had PUPPIES.  And when they had, they'd had very mellow tiny puppies.  Dawg is a lab/pitty/aussie mix.  as a 4 month old pup, she was a chewing machine hell bent on destruction.  We told them this.  They are dog people, we thought they understood this.  Apparently, they didn't.

Full disclosure, my MIL is an AWESOME person, but to say she's meticulous about her house is the biggest understatement I can make today.  (her being medicated has helped w/ this, FWIW).  So she was not about to change her housekeeping routines for a dog.

Well, they left Dawg running loose in the house (bad idea) and  after a few crisis-es where Dawg ate stuff, MIL decided that while she was vacuuming, MIL would lock Dawg in the office.  After all, everything Dawg could destroy was at least on a desk, surely Dawg couldn't mess everything up in 10 minutes, right?
But Dawg, at that time, was still capable of counter-surfing (She's currently *not* capable of counter surfing because she has bad knees.  But she's a very happy mildly disabled 111+ old dog, and we've got a few more years of her hobbling, we hope), and got up onto the office desk.  On the desk, she found inkpads.
Which she took to the middle of the white carpet in the room, and ate.
GIANT BLACK POOL OF PERMANENT INK.

My MIL literally birthed a litter of kittens when she opened the door (ok, figuratively) and decided she could no longer deal w/ Dawg.
So she called my parents and asked if they could Dawg sit.  My folks said sure.  the ILS drove to my parents' house, and tied Dawg to the water spigot in the garage while they went inside to talk to my parents.
When they all came out to collect Dawg, the water spigot was hanging half off the wall and the garage was flooded.  Because Dawg is inordinately talented at mischief.

And this is why Dawg generally isn't allowed to visit at the ILs.  (She might finally be allowed now, but her poor bad knees seem to cramp in the car, so we avoid taking her on car trips, even when she wants to)

(and insurance paid to steam clean the office carpet.  That was the point of that story, kinda)
