Airing of grievances

Re: Airing of grievances

  • @kimmiinthemitten, is her daughter 18 months old now or will be at the time of your wedding?  DefConn was pretty easy-going at 18 mos.  But we never arranged plans around his nap/sleep schedule.  He rolled with whatever.

Also, does she have a sitter plan?  We invited SIL's IL's because they took my nieces (whom were 1 and 2 at the time) home with them when it was time
She'll be 19 months actually at the wedding. I stop counting after 12 haha. Your kid is not 42 months! That's not a thing! My sister is big on the sleep schedule. I made Christmas dinner earlier so we could FaceTime before she went to bed after I learned I was apparently supposed to know that Nugget went to bed at 7 after her 6pm bath. I also invited sister and my BFF to spend the night before with me in the suite if they wanted and my sister asked if niece could stay too. I said no. She tried pitching a case but I'm staying firm. I love my niece. Never realized how much I would really love her until she was here. But that doesn't change the fact that I likely won't sleep well the night before the wedding and will sleep even worse with an infant in the room. I love my sis too, but she's a baby martyr who sometimes passively and other times aggressively suggests other people change to accommodate the babies schedule. I'm also told often that "I don't understand" because being childless at 36 apparently makes me lack empathy. Sorry, I'm still annoyed with her right now. My sisters MIL is invited (I did not invite her for childcare, I invited her because I wanted her there). She told sister that when she left she would take the baby with her. I have a pack and play that I keep here that I or BIL will also bring to the venue to keep in the bridal room if she needs to go down before MIL leaves.

My husband seems to think packing is throwing a few pieces of clothing in a bag.  That's fine for his shit, but WE HAVE THRE KIDS.  They need things too.
Mr. Conn is guilty of this too.  The kiddo is left to his own devices, with mixed results.  I've started making DefConn pack his stuff with me.

Yes to both.  Wooz is pretty good about packing, now that I can give her a list and she can actually read it.  But yeah, somehow DH not only thinks he can just throw a few things in a bag, but he is smug about it, like he has this whole packing thing figured out.  No, I just don't let you pack for the kids, or you'll forget that Wooz needs two brushes (regular and Wet Brush), detangler, and a whole assortment of hair accessories, and DS needs things like, oh I don't know, socks and underwear.

I can give the kiddo a list, but he's very much this:

I will give Wooz credit, she's inherited the slightly compulsive, list-loving gene from my side of the family.  Give that girl a list, and she'll follow it like she's programmed.

This morning, though, just getting ready was very much like Dug ^^^.

Still with the IL's @atomicblonde?  It's time to start blocking those crazy people!

My grievance is with my email.  My company changed names and thus email addresses in 2010, but we all still receive emails sent to that old address.  Somehow my old address was sold to some super spam group so I'm getting all sorts of ads all day long.  Because they each come from a similarly formatted webpage but with different names and addresses, IT is having a hard time blocking them all.  I've spent two weeks unsubscribing hoping it would help, but nope.  Today I've received Dr. Oz's weight loss plan, a brain enhancer, a credit card offer and a notice from the US Solar office.

I've actually read that you shouldn't unsubscribe to spam emails because that just triggers the site that it is a legit email address and you will get more. It is different if it was a place you actually gave your address to but true spam it supposedly makes it worse
I have found that to be true with spam faxes.

Yes, my workplace still has a fax machine. #bureaucracy
    We still have fax too!

We have several faxes in our office too.  They're always down.  At least twice a month.

We have one about 10 feet from my desk. Occasionally it will start making that terrible fax-machine noise for minutes on end. And no one does anything about it but complain (including myself).

Ours is right behind my desk. Nice. Not.
  • Same coworker guy has a college age kid (I think he's 23) who apparently has no brain at all.

Dude is on the phone with this kid 1,000 times a day, talking him through every day things. The other day kid was getting new tires on his car and coworker/dad actually had the kid hand his cell phone to the tire guy to discuss the tires and make sure he was getting the right ones and a good deal. Right now he's telling him how to go to Sam's Club and to make sure he eats something and that the doors are locked.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • 1. I wish people were as enthusiastic about throwing their trash away or picking up litter as they are about Pokemon Go. The walk from the bus stop was particularly disgusting this evening.

    2. I'm over this heat. It feels and looks like the savanna around here. We need rain!
  • We own one small suitcase which I bought 2 months ago to haul H's crap back and forth to rehab. We are going on a trip in August and we need luggage. Today I found a $500 spinner set (the kind where the wheels can do 360 degrees) for $115 as part of Amazon Prime day. Between the time when I found them on the Prime Day page and the time I clicked on the product page to check them out, all the deals for them had been claimed. I will not be spending $500 on luggage, sorry. Costco had a few options but they didn't appear to be highly rated. Any suggestions are welcome.

Also, I hate my MIL. And she hates me.

  • I found out yesterday that I'm pregnant. My mom is excited. My FI is excited. I am scared. His mom says she's excited then adds, "If you guys think you can handle it" and "If you're happy, I'm happy." Just rubbed me the wrong way.

    Congratulations @DrillSergeantCat!! That's great news.

Also, screw her that would rub me the wrong way too.

We have a 5 month old also which is why I'm freaking out. I'm trying to remind myself that she's just really socially inept and didn't mean anything by it, but damn.
  • @DrillSergeantCat - congratulations!  This is big news for anyone and it's OK to be scared.  Tell us more about yourself.

  • @MNNEBride I'll be 39 next week, I have a 19 year old son from my almost 18-year long first marriage that I ended after getting tired of hearing how he'd be happy without me and throwing something I said when I was a stupid 16-year old in my face, I met my fiance the day after the divorce was final, we have a 5 month old son who is the cutest, happiest baby ever, I have 13 weeks until I'm finished with my bachelor's in accounting, I have 11 weeks until the wedding, and I work full-time as a bookkeeper.
    Congrats and screw FMIL.

I got this as a "lightning deal" in 2014 - my only complaint is that it's not expandable - but it holds a lot and has held up well. It has spinner wheels and is fairly lightweight.

  • @spockforprez I got this set a few years ago at my shower.  It has held up well, but doesn't spin 360.  Macy's is having a big sale on luggage, so they had other sets available for a good price too.

  • @DrillSergeantCat  congrats! You don't look almost 39! {I creeped to get a closer look}
Also, screw FMIL. That comment would irk anyone, socially inept or not.
