Wedding Woes

Tuesday!

We had meet the teacher night last night.  DefConn's teacher seems very nice.  I'm thinking about getting involved in the PTA.  What?! I don't even know who I am anymore. :) DH signed up to volunteer on Fridays in DefConn's class.  I also hope they have a mystery reader program and I can do it once or twice.  OK and I'm done typing about this since it's making me feel things.  ;)

I took the . out of my handle and it changed my picture and I've spent way too much time trying to figure out how to change my picture back.

Office days for me tomorrow and Thursday.  I need to outfit plan.  And be up early to do hair and make-up.  These are things I almost never did when I actually worked in the office.

  • Dropping off the dog to be fixed right now.  Then off to sign a lease for our new place, eat lunch, and drop off dry cleaning.  We'll see how much energy I have after that.

  • @missJeanLouise - your menu sounds amazing! I actually want to try one of each!!

This week I am in the throes of two large and strategically important deadlines, yet I seem to be the only one who wants to win these contracts. I am in marketing, so it's my job to want to win them, but you'd think the Ops people who initially wanted to pursue these would at least meet me halfway and put in some of the effort they are supposed to. Arrghhh. Very frustrating.

I have wild caught salmon at home and I really just want to go home and cook it.
  • Happy birthday 6!

@missjeanlouise the menu sounds fantastic. So are you going to wear the dress then?

Monday Funday was a blast, albeit a ridiculously hot one.  We went to downtown Detroit and walked the river walk, then had lunch and a drink at a restaurant with a nice open patio, then got ice cream from this non profit place that donates all proceeds to organizations that help rebuild Detroit and then hung out in a park (Camous Martius is awesome).  After that jet lag set in so we came back, FI napped and then for dinner we went to a local brewery.

We ended the night with a sour beer I picked up in Pennsylvania and the DNC.  I'm so sad Michelle Obama can't be our First Lady forever.

With th that said, I slept until 9, oops.  I have a TON to do today too so I gotta get on it!

  • I started a marathon training group last night and I'm surprisingly not as sore as I thought I would be. I have no idea if I'll actually run a marathon, but I made it through day 1.

I think ink your menu sounds great @missJeanLouise. I get what you mean that it doesn't look like a lot written out like that, but as long as you have enough of each you will be fine. Also, your apps sound amazing and I would probably eat way too many of them.
  • Thanks guys.
@kimmiinthemitten, Idk about the dress yet. It is a little fancy/over the top for a daytime or courthouse wedding (IMO). (It is a satin fit and flare with a low back and long train) Right now we are continuing as if the wedding in October is happening, knowing the chance is very slim, until we hear otherwise. I certainly won't wear it in October if the event changes to a going away party.

@charlotte989875 we are waiting for the quote to come back and then we might be able to add another app or side. But when I think about having a little bit of everything on one plate, it is a pretty full plate as it is. I am just like my grandma though and just want everyone to be full, lol.
  • Had our first rehearsal for K's last production number for our local Drag Race.  I"ll be so damn happy when this competition is over.  Tonight is just the review show, next Tuesday is the final.  If you want to see something hilarious, this is the song/inspiration video we're using (SFW):

I'm looking forward to life getting back to normal after teh first week of August.  My schedule isn't so crammed packed with "catch this up after June" and other pushed back obligations.  Also, the VP of the board I serve on is more than likely leaving b/c of a job offer.  I've been asked to take the position.  I'm hesitant right now; the board president is going to be termed out soon and I still have my obligation to Pride.  I'm afraid the 2 might conflict.
  • I'm trying to book our room for our Chattanooga weekend. But hotels.com doesn't specify whether or not the room choices have a balcony so I either have to speak to someone or book a different way and not get my hotels.com reward nights.

    I hate speaking to people.

  • Happy Birthday, @6fsn!!!

I got my excise tax bill in the mail the other day, and went online to the Town's website to pay it, only to find out there is no record of this invoice.

    #ohwell.  >:)
  • Yay for no cancer @pegasuskat!!
  • @ShesSoCold can you email someone at the specific hotel you are looking at?

Basically the only reason why I use grubhub/seamless when ordering takeout/delivery.   The 'notes' section is great when they actually pay attention to it

  • Today is siding day on our detached garage... YOUCH this is expensive!  Even though it's needed to be done going on 8 years now, and the siding is more expensive since we want it to match the house, it's still sticker shock!  But - once the siding is up and I stain the cedar (to match the house) it'll look great!
  • Happy Birthday @6fsn!!

Yesterday I finished paying for the honeymoon :) Now I just have to wait for the points to come in so I can buy our plane tickets. FI still needs to get his Passport... ugh! I've been bugging him for months about it. I even filled out the paperwork online printed it off and he took the pictures. Its getting him to the Post Office to get it submitted.

This move is going to be the death of me. FI is being an ass because I haven't finished packing. I can't pack if I'm not there. He pouts if I don't run errands with him but then he wonders why I'm not done packing.... I'm having a second Monday today :(

  • So... do I tell DH I just spent $400 on lily, tulip, and daffodil bulbs for the new place we don't have yet, or just ask him for help planting the 300 bulbs when they arrive?  I can't decide which is the lesser of two evils.

The main part of my company's workforce are call center employees.  I started out on the phone myself.  My current role, blessedly, involves e-mail and online chat.  However, sometimes we may get pulled to do calls if the volume is high enough.

I got pulled to take calls yesterday for the first time in 2 years.  I give good phone and all that, but dear God I hate talking on the phone.  IDK how people who have been there 20 years and spent their whole careers on the phone do it.

    SITB!

did you spend your own money or "joint" money (as we call it). If it came out of a joint account, tell him about the money. If it came out of your own personal money, then just ask for help when they arrive. That's how I would do it

Just wait til he gets there. If be all, "look at all these flowers it will make the new house so beautiful". It's all about the framing.
  • @pegasuskat that is great news!!!!!!!!!

@MissJeanLouise your menu sounds awesome! It's making me hungry!

DH had a phone interview today for another aerial surveying job. This one pays a lot more than his last one, but requires relocation to PA. I'm not totally opposed to moving there. We will see what happens. Lots to think about in the upcoming months.

My work rented out a box for a baseball game tonight. We initially committed to go, but now I don't know if I want to anymore. It's cloudy/rainy looking out, so I'm semi-hoping that the game gets called off.

  • @pegasuskat that is wonderful news!!

@ChelleJayne you may be marrying me!  I have the app printed, the awful photos on top, and all I have to do is take it in, but I still haven't.  Maybe Friday.  The good news is current processing time is about 6 weeks so I have time.

What part of PA? H is from Pittsburgh and we love it there. We're thinking of how to quit academic life and move out there this year.
  • @thefanciestbeckler, I don't know where in PA you'd be relocating to if your H took the job, but if this is something that is in your future, make sure you do your due diligence on property taxes in your area, specifically school tax and the area's tax rate history.

I think my parents are paying something like 5% in property taxes, and their rates have gone up every year since I started paying attention.  It could just be their district/county, but I know it's a problem and they hate it.

  • Happy birthday, 6!! How cool to share with Mick Jagger!

    Pegkat, great news!!

MissJL, I could email the hotel, but they probably won't know about hotels. com's description. I've tried that sort of thing before and I've been told that.

  • My baby is teething and not sleeping well because of it. He woke up at least 4 times last night screaming! We had some pretty nasty storms come through and knocked our power out at 10:30 last night so two of the times he woke up was because he was hot. Our power still isn't back on and it's only 4 of us on the block who share a transformer. This is the second time that transformer has failed this summer. I just hope it's all fixed when I get home because I don't want to have to go sleep elsewhere tonight.

I'm a born and raised yinzer (Pittsburgh) and DK is from Philly. We lived in Philly for about 5 years before we moved to TX, and I can tell you that the western part of the state is far superior to the eastern part of the state. There's not much in the middle of the state other than mountains, farms, and Amish people.
