Las Vegas Recs

So initially H & I were going to go near Ashville NC for our vacation this year.  Due to my opposition of their bathroom bill, we decided to change to something different.  We decided to do Vegas in November now.

I know there is so much to do and see!  We aren't huge gamblers, so we aren't looking for the best places to play.  Instead, if anyone has any recommendations for places to eat and non-gambling activities, it would be greatly appreciated!  We will probably hit up the Hoover Dam, the botanical gardens at the Bellagio, and Red Rock Canyon National Park.

Is Zion National Park too far to be a day trip?  What about the Grand Canyon?  We will be staying with our timeshare just off the strip, but there is a shuttle that runs from our timeshare to Harrahs constantly.

We also love to eat!  My H is a buffet fan, so we will probably hit up one of those.  Also steakhouse, Italian, Irish/English pub-type places, burgers, BBQ or other American fare.  H doesn't like Mexican, Indian, or anything spicy.  My H is also a choco-holic, so anything that may have delicious chocolate would also be a good place for us.

Also any shows?  I know we need to book them in advance, but hopefully we can still get some seats for good ones.

I've tried looking at tripadvisor, but just get very overwhelmed with all there is to offer!  This might be a bit of a P&R, but I will be checking back in later.

Re: Las Vegas Recs

  • I loved Le Reve, if you have the money to spend on that, that's my suggestion. They say the first few rows, the "splash zone" isn't that good but watching it from 5th or 6th row up, I don't see why you couldn't sit there and enjoy it all?
You're in buffet heaven.  I really enjoyed the one in Planet Hollywood.  But I also haven't' been to many buffets recently.

  • Hash House a Go-Go has an awesome brunch! I think they have a couple of locations in Vegas, but one of them is in The Linq on the strip.

Also, there is a dueling piano bar called The Piano Bar in Harrah's, it's really fun. Also happens to be right across from the Linq and Hash House a Go-Go.

    Have fun!

Many companies offer day trips to the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas.  Parking at the Grand Canyon is difficult, so these might help you.  Be sure that your bus takes you to the South Rim, and take bottled water.

Here is a good review of different companies:

You can buy tickets to shows in Las Vegas for that same day for half price.  These will be unsold tickets, often for shows that have been around for a while.  http://www.tix4tonight.com/.  Many have these shows have been around for years, and are still a treat to watch - especially the Cirque du Soleil ones.

Free things to do: watching the dancing waters fountains at the Bellagio, seeing the lions at MGM, window shopping, the "Fall of Atlantis" animatronic talking fountain show at Caesar's Palace shopping mall (Very touristy!  You've GOT to see this!)
