Highlights from our wedding and stuff I'm really glad we did....
Booking the caterers to do a welcome BBQ the day before. As family started to arrive I felt like I was being pulled in all directions at once. I'm so glad we booked the BBQ so I could just focus on greeting people and not on the food or the clean up. I also got time alone with people like partners of family I hadn't met before and made some firm friends! I do feel bad that we ran out of white wine (had loads of everything else) but in my defence what was supposed to be a 2-3 hour pre wedding party ended up going for 6 hours!
My bridesmaid bouquets were all different to reflect each girl's taste and style. I also got matching buttonholes/corsage for their partners and the girls absolutely loved their flowers! My MOH was particularly pleased as her girlfriend had gone to a shop to buy her own corsage and could only get a rose one which was not her style at all. When she got the succulent and deep purple Cali lily corsage to match my MOH's bouquet she was absolutely delighted.
While getting ready in the castle Johnny and I had decided not to see each other. However I saw him on the lawn and couldn't help but lean out the window and shout "I love you baby!"
We were waiting round the corner behind the trees surrounding the ceremony location at precisely 3pm. We all had to stop a minute as some of our friends were latecomers and the poor things looked so embarrassed! Then we started the prosessional with the flower girl first, then the first bridesmaid etc, with the classical guitarist playing. At this point the mother of my brothers FI showed up having been to the loo or something and actually JOINED the prosessional after BM 1 but before BM 2 and walked down the alise like there was nothing weird with this at all!! My wedding planner was giving her daggers but me and my father and my MOH were hiding behind the trees, bent over, pissing ourselves laughing. It was so funny, I said bloody hell I should have got her a bouquet! I love that my father found it as funny as me. BM 1 said later that "that bitch stole my limelight" and I know this sounds strange but it was such a funny memory for us all and really broke the ice.
When I came round the corner I saw Johnny and he saw me and he started crying his eyes out. I kissed my dad, came to him, held his hands and whispered that I was here now and everything was okay. He was crying during our vows, but I felt so calm and strong. The moment he placed the ring on my finger I knew I never ever wanted to take it off. After the ceremony we signed the paperwork and drank sweet wine from a traditional Scottish Quaich which is a cup of friendship. The celebrant told the guests that everything we drank from the Quaich that was sweet, would be all the sweeter as we shared it together, and when it was bitter, would be less bitter as we would share it together as well.
After the ceremony we walked back to the castle and greeted our guests. The staff served drinks of fizz cocktails, beer and prosecco and nibbles. After a bit of mingling we left for our couples shots which to be honest were really boring, do this, stand here, bit to the right etc! However I do understand why we had to do this if we wanted awesome shots. My dress got very dirty walking through the woods but at this point I couldn't of cared less!
We then welcomed our guests to the reception room and sat down for dinner, the meal and wines were absolutely out of this world. The pasta course in particular was one of the best dishes I had ever had. We did 3 rounds of table visits as we only had 8 tables, so I'm glad of having a smaller wedding (70 guests) as it meant we could talk to everyone multiple times.
We had the coffee and toasts (just FOB and BM) and these were incredible. You can see my reaction to them in the pictures above!
Then the band arrived to set up and the projection map cake was switched on. The guys had done such a good job of hiding the projectors high above, so many guests were absolutely confused as to how the effect was done. Even though our cake ended up costing £900 we are really glad we did this. One of my relatives said she saw our plain cake with just a few flowers on it, and said that she was secretly surprised that I had chosen such a boring cake, then she saw it light up and she was like 'oh I see!'
We had the first dance then the band and they were kick ass! Even with small numbers the dance floor was busy and at some points 95% of the guests were dancing. They played hits from the 50s and 60s for the older generation, but also 70s and 80s hits for our generation. One of our 21 year old girlfriends practically ran to the dance floor when they played Thin Lizzy.
At at this point at the night I felt like I had a warmth in my heart that was spreading to every part of my body. I was so happy and so overwhelmed with emotion. We were staying in the bridal suite at the castle but after the wedding we walked through the woods to hang out with some friends at the hot tub. Johnny took a picture of me on the walk there with my dress hitched up, and he said I look so radiantly happy.

Sorry for such a long post, I just wanted to preserve my memories on the Internet.
Congratulations! Love all the beadwork on your dress and I'm glad the cake worked out- now you can give projection cake advice to everyone else, haha. And is that Waterford crystal on the tables? Such a pretty detail.

I'm so glad we got the crystal glasses as I love the old fashioned style. The venue came with linen, crockery and glassware but it was a bit cheap looking. I got advice on here(?) to choose one element of the table to upgrade if you are on a budget. So we hired the crystal glasses for less than 200 GBP (set of water, white wine, red wine and toasting flute) and I really felt it lifted the look of the tables. For arrival drinks we had the old fashioned champagne coupes provided by the venue.
It sounds a bit silly but it was one detail I was enhusiastic about so I'm really pleased you noticed it @thisismynickname thank you for that!
