I have a dumb question

I know some of DS's classmates' parents' names.  (Holy apostrophes!)  But not all.  I'm ordering his invitations, and originally I wanted to put my name in parentheses after the phone # so people weren't just RSVP-ing into a nameless void.  But it looks much better with just the phone number--the (Name) looks tacked on and sticks out like a sore thumb.  WWWWD?

(Also, my name is part of my email, but there is no room for email, phone only.)

I've called/texted into the nameless void before and it's never bothered me.

I figured if the template didn't have a slot for a name, I might be overthinking it.
  • I think no name is fine. They have kid's name so they could reference that
  • I think either is fine, but I hate when I feel like I should know someone's name and I don't (like my neighbor who I've talked to a ton and now it's awkward for me to ask). I tend to give my name so that other people don't feel like that.

That's a pet peeve of mine!  Maybe I'm just persnickety, because I feel like I'm the oddball and few other people do it.  But I ALWAYS state my name, both answering the phone and making a call.

I realize this has gone a bit out of fashion with caller id, but I don't have caller id on my cell phone, unless that phone number is already in my contacts.  So, if you don't tell me your name when I answer, I probably don't know who you are.  I'm also not going to call you back, unless you leave a message.  Because I may not recognize your phone number.

I'll be the UO and say I'd prefer your name with the number, even if it looked weird, or at least your name in the comments.  Assuming from the poll that's an option.  I just like knowing the name of who I am calling, so I can address them by it.  Like, instead of saying, "Hi, I'm short+sassy, (child)'s mom.  I'm RSVPing for DS's party on Saturday."

I'd prefer to start that same conversation with, "Hi, Heffalump!  I'm blah, blah, blah."  That way, if I accidentally called the wrong number, they'll immediately know I've called the wrong number and there won't be a game of "wait, who are you?  what party are you calling about?"  I have had that happen!  Though usually from being the wrong number called.

I've been known to check the auditors website for the names of some of my neighbor's.
  • I wouldn't think twice about not seeing your name on there.

    Tricky ;)!  I like it.

I already use my local assessor's website a lot in my real estate investing.  I can see how much the taxes are, what the buy/sell history of the prices, and...for tenant applicants...I can verify that who they are telling me is the name of their landlord really IS the name of the property owner.  It's not perfect, some people use property managers, but it puts me on the alert.

  • Can you use your first and last name on your return address?  That way you can give them your name and keep the invitation the same?

We're handing them out at school, so I'm just sticking one in every kid's folder.

You all are the best!  Thank you for answering my silly question.  Invitations are ordered. (40% off at Shutterfly and free shipping to boot!)

The first place I worked had photos of all of the employees in the lobby, for some reason.  If I got an email from someone and I didn't know who they were, I'd go to the lobby and look them up.  "Oh, that guy!"

I work for one of my company's clients.  Each client employee has a little pic of their face next to the area with their name and subject line.  Maybe it is more common than I think to do that, but I've never seen it before and think it's weird.

  • I think it's fine to not have your name on there! I've RSVP'ed to many things without having the person's name when I called.

I would appreciate having your name on there. I like to know who I am supposed to be talking to.

When I answer my personal phone it is just "Hello?". And even if the person answering the phone states their name, that doesn't necessarily mean that person is the host of the event and the person you should be RSVPing to.
  • I'd use your first name and call it good...  Beats the awkward silence when making a phone call to RSVP someone you don't know...
  • Can't they just look at the return address if they want a name?
  • Late to the game here, but is there room to do it this way?
