  They don't even make any sense.  Croquet?  What do you care if your guests are on their phones at the reception?  (Because I'm assuming this isn't some bizarre croquet wedding ceremony.)  And how "present" are they when they're playing a game, anyway? 

  I mean, I don't care if people are on their phones during the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, dancing, whatever.  But even if you cared so very deeply about them being "present" (barf) for your all-important vows, what do you care what they're up to once they're over?  Now people have to pay attention to you--and only you--from 2:00 in the afternoon until 10:00 p.m.?  People need to get a freaking grip.

  The only time I cannot simultaneously handle a drink and my cell phone is when I have a drink in each hand, or we're playing Yucca.

  If you made me play crochet at your wedding reception, I would definitely need to have a drink in the other hand, so I guess that's one way to get me to put down my phone. But I don't think that's what they meant.

  Obviously people aren't playing croquet properly if they aren't drinking while playing. It's like curling, you only play to drink.
