Wedding Woes

No Wednesday?

Hellooooo?  There's literally no one here, today, either.  It's a little spooky for my taste, but I startle easily to begin with.  I actually jumped when the PA system crackled a minute ago.

I am pretty sure summer will NEVER END.  It's supposed to hit at least 80 the rest of this week, and I'm pretty sure the high yesterday was 88.  Y'all, I love living in the South, but this is a tad ridiculous.  Come baaack, sweater weather!

I jumped the gun a little and registered for Next Door at the new address, because y'all have piqued my interest, and when it got to the part about "verifying the address," I couldn't because the place isn't ours yet, so I just didn't.  Got an email from them last night that they went ahead and sent a postcard with a verification code to that address.

Head, meet desk.

Movers are officially coming Monday and Tuesday, to box and load, and then we close Wednesday morning--exactly 13 months to the day we closed on our first home.  It's a good thing I am not superstitious.

...Much.

Re: No Wednesday?

  • I'm so with you on the weather. We had a few great fall days, even used the wood stove, but then this week its been back in the high 70s. Seriously it's November, I want a few weeks to wear sweaters and boots before the snow starts.

Nothing much here to report. Grading exams, running group tonight, hiding from election talk. Seriously read for November 9. Also, I need to remember to vote early. How many of you have early voting options? Do you use them?
  • We have early voting options.  I've only had to use it once.  I've never used it for a convenience tool, just an "I'll be OOT on election day."  I enjoy going to the polls.  And I'm not going to lie or be ashamed, I will get choked up casting my vote for HRC, just like I did for Obama.  It's a moment, knowing my chosen vote is also trying to break a barrier.

I'm struggling with life right now.  But our apartment is finally starting to look like people live in it, rather than boxes, so I'm trying to enjoy that.  And I'm trying to get back to my daily to-do list.  I think unpacking, organizing, moving things to storage, etc., really took a lot out of me, more than I realized.
  • Last night we shampooed the carpet in the office/cat room/new baby's room. We only did the corners because that's where the cat liked to pee and used an entire bucket of solution in two corners and the water was still coming out yellow. I knew it was bad, but I didn't realize how bad. I also didn't realize until yesterday that he's still doing it. I seriously don't know what to do. I'm going to switch back to a different litter and see if that helps. Tonight, I'm going to start painting in there. We're also going to shampoo in there a couple more times at least.

I had to explain yet again why "late term" abortion is needed and why it's usually done. I'm not even a Hillary fan, but I'm tired of hearing "Hillary wants to kill babies!" No. She doesn't. Just stop with that nonsense.

Just took out a loan from my 401K to pay off some medical bills. Not what I wanted to do, but $20 a week to pay it back is better than the alternative.

While our leaves are kind of turning, it's still in the upper 70's - 80's here and it's annoying. I want to wear my Uggs dammit!

Still contemplating doing Thanksgiving at my house again this year. Our first Thanksgiving together we went to his mom's, my mom's, and his friend's houses. Last year, we did everything at ours. I've learned that his mom has a few dishes that she's good at, but everything else is a miss. H is a garbage disposal and will eat and appreciate everything so he hasn't noticed.
  • For some unknown reason, I have been waking up too early.  Monday night, I woke up at 3AM.  Stayed in bed and finally went back to sleep about 20 minutes later.  But, last night, I got up at 4AM.  And couldn't get back to sleep.  I finally got out of bed at 5:30AM.  And now I am completely exhausted for the rest of the day.

@AtomicBlonde, I was just lamenting last night about how I am SO SICK of the heat!  It is November for goodness sake!  Why must I still be running my a/c?  Craziness.  The high on Monday was 91.  I look longingly at my hooded sweatshirts, sweaters, and a new thick flannel shirt I bought about a week ago.  Though I'm sure I'll be on here complaining about the cold about one month from now.  Congrats on  the upcoming closing!

I'm having a fridge delivered to my next door tenant at 4:00 this afternoon.  The current one is old and was acting up on Sunday.  I (hopefully) found a great deal on Craig's List.  It's used, but looks really clean and in great condition.  Only $195, plus $35 for delivery.  The guy is also going to haul away the old fridge.  Apparently he has a salvage guy he can sell it to.  Bonus for him, bigger bonus for me.  The new one also has an icemaker, the old one didn't.  So bonus for my tenants also.

  • @AtomicBlonde  13 can be lucky. My parents had that and they were pretty lucky {despite my dad's sudden death} My mum was born on the 13th - same day they met - they were 13 months, 13 days apart age wise, their wedding {from walking in to walking out} was 13 mins.
    Then they had me, and I had so many 7's in my life they said it balanced out the 13's ;) {born on 7th day; I was 7lbs, 7oz; born AT 3;04 am; etc}
So your 13 could be lucky ;)

We have a wonderful fall-ish day! Warm day today, which makes me irked that I'm at work and not outside. Likely some of the last warm days for awhile.

We have a photoshoot coming this month. H and I won one at the end of September and we're pretty excited/nervous. We didn't have a lot of posed photos at the wedding because we're awkward and I somewhat regret never doing engagement photos, so when H put our names for the photoshoot he said "this is to make up for our lack of engagement photos you wanted"
    <3 !

    Last night wasn't much.
I need to pull out frames tonight and go through the wedding/honeymoon photos we have to see what I'll want to print for them.
I got irked with H last night because last minute he decides to go out. Uhm fuck off, I get you're stressed but I was doing stuff to help alleviate some of it then you leave AND LEAVE A GD MESS!? Guhh ... I snarked at him on text because I didn't realize he left a mess until he was gone.

Random side note; we have a mud room that we keep closed. Half so shoes/dirt doesn't come in, other part so cats don't slither outside since we have no screen door.
We pull into the drive way and Angel is sitting at the front door window! I'm in the car and just shout "HOW DID YOU GET INTO THAT ROOM!?" I'm sure he heard me, because his ears perk up and he turns tail to run and hide.
Needless to say, he knows he shouldn't be there because he ran and hid upstairs. Sneaky cat ...
  • Morning, WW.

Totally feeling y'all on the weather. It's been in the 80's here. Looks like it's going to dip down into the 70's this weekend. I guess I should be thankful for that? Instead I just feel cranky because I want to wear sweaters and tunics. They look much better on my married lady bod than summer clothes ;)

I'm feeling a little better today, which is a huge relief. My Dr. called me in an antibiotic so I'm hoping it kicks this thing pretty quickly. Last night I was so stuffed up that I could not breathe through my nose at all and literally couldn't taste anything. Like, couldn't even distinguish between salty, sweet, etc. Everything tasted like nothing. I even tested it by eating a few different things. I don't think I've ever had that exact sensation before. It was so weird.

Re: early voting- We have the option here but I've never taken advantage of it. It's exciting to me to go to the poll on election day.

  • @DrillSergeantCat  Angel likes to poop on the floor if his litter box isn't clean enough. If changing litter isn't working, maybe try doing the box more often. Is there one cat? If there's two, the other cat scent might be an issue too :\
  • It's been pretty warm here too.   Which is odd because we had snow back in late Aug.   I haven't worn a coat much at all in Oct.  Rare times I did was first thing in the morning to walk the dogs.  Otherwise a light pullover is all I've worn.  DH even wore shorts to the Bronco's game on Sunday.

Today is consists on me going to get my hair done.  That will kill about 2 hours.  I'm even walking to the salon which will kill some more time.  Also dropping off our ballots.  We missed the postal cut off (yesterday), so we will just drop them off.  No big deal.  It's close.  It's such a nice day maybe I will just walk it over.

1 month until I start working again.   It's going to be a long month I tell you.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

My cat (Nip) wanted to play her favorite game this morning.  My H and I are sometimes lazy and don't put the TP on the roller.  It was sitting on the bathtub ledge.  I'm using the facilities...half awake.  She follows me, jumps up on the ledge, and knocks the TP onto the floor.  I put it back.  She knocks it off again.  Nip, Nip...seriously, it is always way too early in the morning for this game.

She shocked me the other day.  Jumped onto the coffee table...right in front of me!  I felt so disrespected.  I blurted out loudly, "Nip!  Have you lost your mind?!?"  She at least had the good sense to immediately jump down but I'm sure she was thinking, "Whoops, I forgot to wait until you went to bed."

  • Not much going on for me either.  Just 2 1/2 days left of work until vacation!  It can't come soon enough!

I voted last month.  It was unintentional, but we scheduled vacation during election day.  So I had to get a ballot by mail.  I think my vote for HRC has been in for the last month.  I prefer to go in person to vote, I like flipping the switch or hitting the button to make my vote count.

Yoga after work and then home for dinner.  We have to get our new car insurance set up tonight too.  We will be saving close to $20 per month switching.  H had called Geico to see if they would lower their payment, but nope.  Apparently they would rather lose customers.  I would have stuck with them if they had said they could lower it by $10.

  • Hi everyone!  I've been able to read but not respond, thanks a lot job!

Yesterday was my dress fitting and today was my 6 week post op appointment.  I can run again, and they have to take like 7 inches off of the bodice of my gown, but importantly I own blue paisley, hot pink, pink and gray polka dot, and orange and gray striped bras.  All the colors!  Plus I discovered the Victoria's Secret Outlet and the last 3 bras I listed were $12.99 each.  That means all of the bras I've bought post surgery have cost $10.00 more than one of my old bras.   And I only have one nude bra - and never intend to own more than one if I can help it!  If you're a mall bra shopper, trust me, it's a gift - do not take it for granted!  6 more weeks and I can buy underwire!  Imagine the choices then!

I'd also like to add that I'm a day of voter.  I've voted absentee once and that was when I ran a campaign.  I like the line, the sticker, and like @varunatt, I imagine I'll get all choked up again.

Hope everyone is feeling well, including chef husbands, and everyone's moves are smooth and help people feel less anxiety, and I loved all the pics of everyone's costumes.

  • construction is done as of yesterday - not because everything is completed to our satisfaction, but because i could not stand one more day of inept project management and at this point, we've had enough. For the most part stuff is done and we're ok, but i am going to ask him to cut off a bit since DK will need to repaint the laundry room cabinets.

(the original paint crew never properly stripped/prepped them, and the new paint was just falling off. they managed to get them stripped down and painted yesterday, but they still look pretty bad up close.)

Wolverine's birthday is Friday - she'll be 6. Made reservations at a Brazilian steakhouse for dinner - she'll be super excited. She loves their chicken hearts. She ate 20 (yes, we counted) on the last visit.

Weekend will otherwise be spent cleaning and organizing the house. We have an appraisal on Monday for the refinance.
  • I'm super late here, I had a bunch of stuff this morning.  Nothing major, just one little fire after another.  Hopefully the afternoon will be quieter.

DH is driving me a little bit crazy.  He said he doesn't want to go anywhere for Thanksgiving, which is fine by me.  (We went to his dad's last year, and it was good, but it's a haul.  Not the sort of thing I need to do every year, especially if he doesn't want to.)  But I know him, and I'm afraid he's going to be in a funk when Thanksgiving dinner rolls around and it's "just" us.  (My mom is going to Florida to see my grandma, because she will be in the sweet spot after she recovers from her last round of chemo and before surgery, and she's also afraid it might be my grandma's last Thanksgiving.)

Maybe we could invite people here, I suggested.  Who would we invite? he countered.  Um...family, maybe?  He said his sister has a baby [who is >1 now, but w/e] and his brother can't afford to travel, and I'm like "Good thing that's the only family you have," [secret eyeroll].  I mean, neither of us like his other brother, so that's not happening, but he also has another sister (with a husband and a couple of kids), a dad, etc.  And maybe his sister with the little one would come--we traveled with Wooz a ton when she was that age.  I would actually invite my dad and brother, except that they're traveling to the UK a couple of weeks after that for my brother's engagement party (I think he does his conversion ceremony, and then the engagement), plus my dad and his wife had to reschedule their Caribbean trip last month due to Hurricane Matthew and I think they're going in a couple of weeks.  I could go on, but basically it was Heffa: "Idea." Mr. Heff: "No."  Lather, rinse, repeat.  So I told him I support his decision 100%, but I also don't want to hear him complaining about it on Thanksgiving.

I can't even get him to decide if he wants to go out to dinner or have it at home.  If this keeps up, I'm making dinner reservations, getting Moana tickets, and calling it a day.

  • @short+sassy  sass cat! Penny is more of a jumper/climber. She's known to hop up on tables when no one is looking, but since we moved Angel has had so much more sass! While he was at my mum's, her cat hopped on table and my mum got her down. Angel then hops up! Excuse me sir, you know better!
Now he's hopping up on the window sil and almost hopped up on the pass through from living room/kitchen. WHAT!?

I never thought about that she apparently takes after me, lol.

I read an analogy that, with size considerations, if people could jump as well as cats can, we'd be able to easily jump from the ground onto the top of a roof for a one-story house.

Nip always wants to be up high.  We stayed in one of those extended stay motels once with her.  We couldn't find her and started freaking out, thinking she had snuck out the door.  I look over at the kitchen area and she is sitting on the top of one of the top cabinets.  Inches from the ceiling, lol.  We're still not entirely sure how she did it.  Our suspicion is she jumped onto the countertop, then on to the top of the fridge, then to the top of the cabinet.

90% of the things Penny does, we have zero idea how she does it.
  • It's after 8:30 and I'm just sitting down for the day.  Crazy busy and a bunch of crappy little things taking 3 times as long as they should.

I never did early voting when we lived in BFE.  It was never a problem to get in and I never had a problem getting the time.  Last presidential election I waited in line for close to 4 hrs.  Since I was 8+ months pregnant I really wasn't sure I was going to make it.  I was in and out in less than 5 minutes today.

This is just crazy to me. I mean I've read about it and watched news stories about the lines, but I've never spent more than 30 minutes at a polling place, start to finish.  Aside from places where legalized voter suppression takes place, I just don't understand how that happens.

  • I'm JealousE of early voting.
My only option is absentee, and I have to fucking lie to get that as an option--so it's not an option.
Which is just as well, I'm making Buffy go with me.

She asked me yesterday if there were any, in her words people with "bad ideas that will make things worse" on the ballot.
So I attempted to explain that the hope is separation of powers would keep stupid people from making their stupidity tak over everything.
She's excited about going though, so I'll take that.

We've been swamped busy recently, but hopefully we get back to sane as of tomorrow.  Today I ran lots of errands, which omehow took all day.
And I picke dup the kitchen tile, FINALLY, so we can put it in ASAP.
  • I am much older than most of you. I clearly remember standing in line with my parents for elections in the '60s and '70s. Voting took place at a community center and the booths were pull levers. My parents thought it was very important to vote and wanted to set an example for my brother and me. It seemed like it took hours - but that could be the warped memory of a small child.

I have the same memories, @ILoveBeachMusic.  I first voted in the 1980 presidential election.

I was just barely pregnant with Wooz when DH and I stood in line 2 hours for early voting back in '08. It was a little over an hour (with a restless preschooler) in 2012.  Saturday, DH and I voted early and took the kids.  There was literally zero wait, and we were in and out in <15 minutes.  He took Wooz and I wrangled DS.  (I let DS push the button that actually cast my vote.)  Afterward, DH told me that he really, really didn't want to vote for Hillary, but when he looked at Wooz, he reminded himself of why any other option was worse.  So, Wooz FTW.

She is more partisan than I am, LOL.  Her Scholastic News had an article about the election and voting, and she crossed out the photo of Donald Trump and wrote "MEAN" above it.  She cracks me up, because she came home one day and said "Did you know that before Hillary Clinton was running for president, her husband used to be president?"  I said I know, Bill Clinton was actually the first president I voted for, and she was like "Whaaaaaaaaat???"

So that and the posts above are making me curious:  what was everyone's first presidential election they voted in?  (You don't have to say who you voted for, the year is fine.)

  • @Heffalump The first election I voted for president in was Obama in 2008. I just barely missed being able to vote for John Kerry in 2004 - didn't turn 18 until three weeks after the election.

I have that sign in our office!

My first election was for Michigan's governor in 1998, I voted for Fieger because I hated our current governor so much.  First Presidential was 2000 when I voted for Gore.

  • First presidential election was 2004 by absentee ballot. I've only ever voted in person once, so I'm pretty excited to finally in person vote. I'm still torn between voting early and day of voting. I love the excitement of Election Day, but since I'm in Ohio I worry about long lines.
  • Early voting lines seem long, and I remember in 2008 or 2012 seeing them wrapped around buildings so I take my chances with election day voting. I'm hoping it won't be too bad this year, but if the line is long in the morning I plan to just head to work and then leave around 2 or 3 and do it then.

My first election was 2000 #hangingchad
