Re: Wednesday

  • Afternoon ladies!

I just skimmed a bit but

@Heffalump  yay no ringworm. Did dr look if there's a deeper reason for why she's distracted? {example: ADD/ADHD, etc} M is ADHD and he gets fidgety often, and that's apparently part of it.
@GBCK  I may need to buy one of those fidget things for M!

    @charlotte989875  & @thefanciestbeckler  are having terrible days and need to go buy themselves something nice {new purse? shoes? chocolate?}

Had dr appt this morning. Good things I got to sleep in, and while I was there I asked some pre-emtive questions.
So it was basically follow up on my hospital visit .... *sigh* My dr has said that I shouldn't be in pain anymore - which I am, and none of which related to what I eat - so it's not diverticulitis. She gets why they think appendix, but it could be either IBS or colitis
She's sending me to a g.i specialist but likely going to be sent for colonoscopy to get a definitive answer.

I did get to ask about the fact M and I are looking at TTC end of summer. I have a prescription to change over a few months before. She did ask that we hold off until we know the answer because treatment of colitis and IBS are different especially on pregnant women.

I just want answers :( I'm sore now because she was poking at my stomach.
  • @Heffalump I really, really want some of that thinking putty to play with now.

  • @Heffalump  you seem to be raising logical children ;) not always bad but I was the same. My mum would tell me to stop playing on the stairs, and I would simply say "No mum. I'm not playing on the stairs, I'm sitting on the stairs"
She blamed my dad also ;)

@Heffalump  - I've watched a lot of "untold stories of the ER" and medical stuff fascinates me - plus, biomedical engineering degree.
Just based on what you've told us on Wooz, and her sensitivity, it's not a surprise (not in a bad way by any means - like i said, DK likely has a mild version). I think the velcro suggestion is a good one - sensory stimulation that will distract her from the pulling.
No, definitely not taken badly.  I mentioned her sensitivity to the pedi yesterday, and I had to tell Wooz "Don't feel bad about this, it's not a bad thing, I'm just telling her."  (Because of course, with the sensitivity comes an aversion to having people discuss your temperament in front of you.)  Her pedi said "We see this a lot with our internalizers."  Which was a new term for me, but that is definitely her.  And then there's DS:

DS: "What happens if I don't eat healthy food?"
Me: "Then you won't grow up to be big and strong and healthy!"
    DS: "Will I die?"

They're brooders, these two.  I blame DH. ;)  They're never the kid who's hitting some other kid when they get upset, they just sit and ponder their own mortality and pull out their eyebrows, I guess.  It makes for better behaved kids, but not necessarily happier.
Ha - internalizer is a perfect description for DK.

I'm a fidgeter - like to the point that I broke a pen during a job interview because i was playing with it the whole time that I was talking (when i interviewed for my current job, actually.) Old boss used to tease me about it - because i did it at least one other time when we were talking in his office. ***

Also, I'm way too morbid, because my follow up would be "of course you'll die. everyone dies."

ETA: ***Conclusion: my company needs to invest in stronger pens
  • I'm leaving. I cancelled my afternoon meetings, I'm taking work home with me, but I just can't with the office any more today. Seriously, this whole thing (and the hours, and hours, and hours of work I put in to it) could have been avoided with a damn phone call two months ago.

Mental health day, way to prevent me from yelling at my boss day, whatever I call it I won't be effective here. Maybe I will be working from home, on my couch, in leggings, with a puppy snuggled next to me. Or I'll take a break. Either way.
Sounds like a great plan to me!

I can relate; I've sent pens flying across a room before.
  • @MissKittyDanger I'm sorry you are still not feeling well! I hope you get some good answers that will allow you to move forward with a plan toward feeling better!

Just got a call from my OBs office. Apparently she has the stomach bug that's going around Boston so I had to reschedule my appointment to the 13th. It's a bummer because I had been looking forward to meeting her and asking her questions about my upcoming appointment on Monday with the Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist and the genetic counselor. I know I can always email her, but it's not the same because I always have follow-up questions and in person those can be answered in real-time.
  • @sparklepants41  Not a fan of how they're going to find out answers, but at least it's answers.

Oddly enough, she's kind of the opposite: she's more of a hyper-focuser.  Which is part of the reason we think it's unconscious and she didn't even realize it: she's lost in her thoughts and doesn't even notice what her hands are up to.  (Which is also what was going on with the hair chewing.)  She's also pretty high energy--I've referred to her here as the border collie of kids before--so she just might need an outlet for it.  From my preliminary reading, it seems like (in general) boys are more disruptive with their excess energy (and get labeled ADHD for it), and girls are more likely to turn it inward so they don't get in trouble.  In general.

Speaking of generalities and gender, I was just marking something up for our designer, and I realized how much I've learned about construction and farm equipment since having DS.  Used to be, I didn't know the difference between a bulldozer and a backhoe loader. ;)

There is a unique "amusement park", for lack of a better phrase, in Las Vegas that lets people play with big construction equipment.

@MissKittyDanger my BIL has IBS, his doctor basically explained the testing process for digestive diseases as a process of elimination.  They test for everything they can, and whatever if IBS is left, it's what you have.

  • @Heffalump  Yah M is hyper-focuser {which works for his job} and the hair chewing made me curious. When M focuses, he's really into it.

Fun story: When M was about 5yrs old, he saw RoboCop with his dad. Afterwards he drew multiple things of RoboCop - one after another. He was so focused on what he was doing, he didn't even realize what was going on. That's apparently the notable point his mum decided to have him seen to a dr and he got diagnosed with ADHD
  • @kimmiinthemitten  Yeh .... just sucks when you're going through so much to figure out end result. Dr said best thing to do is track if I feel sick from anything and write down what I ate within last hour or 2 to narrow down if there's a trigger. It just suuuckkkssss lol
  • Sparklepants - Sorry your appointment was cancelled :(  That is a bummer.  I don't know if you have any books, but I have the Mayo Clinic's Guide to Pregnancy.  It's been very helpful and has let me know when something happens, what it is.  I've ended up having few questions for my doctor's because the book is so thorough!

I also am using the Ovia Pregnancy App to track my pregnancy.  They also have an anonymous message board type area, which can get pretty crazy sometimes!

It does, I'm sorry.  He says it's worth it in the long run, but he hated the process and got a bit depressed from the whole thing.  He now knows exactly what he can and can't eat.  Also, juicing and shakeology have been very helpful for him.  If he wants to indulge in something that usually upsets him, he uses either for his meals before and after and it tends to help curb the negative reaction.

  • We had an awesome speaker at our moms ministry this morning and I was feeling all energized.  Then I remembered I had 2 massive brut force projects working.  One is updating ever single electronic client file.  I've been at it 2 weeks and I'm only to the FRs.

I've got all of our taxes done except my forms aren't here yet. booooooooo

Max story- the cat scratched him under the eye so DH put Neosporin on it.  Now he walks around saying if he doesn't get his medicine his eye will fall out.

Makes sense. I definitely need to look at it positively like your BIL is now - long run being good. #endthepityparty lol

I'm using Ovia too!!! I used their fertility app and loved it, so when I got the BFP, I made the easy switch over to the pregnancy app! I'm adding that book to my next Amazon Prime order - thank you! Sometimes I feel like I need to talk to a person, though...
  • @MissKittyDanger I'm really sorry that you're going through all of that :( My best friend was diagnosed with Crohn's disease when we were in high school. I remember the diagnosis being a very long, drawn out process. It sucks that they have to use a process of elimination to diagnose something like that. Hugs to you!

Hey at least your appt is just before Vday :) another celebration reason! Will this be your first time seeing baby? Also have you told anyone yet? :)
So I sort of saw the baby in an ultrasound three weeks ago in radiology. The image was kind of blobby and they had to label the head, heart, and feet on the image, but it was an image nonetheless. And the baby was then the size of a strawberry. But this will be the first time H gets to see the baby in person and I think on Monday, where the baby is a large kumquat, we will have better visibility. I'm excited and nervous because I am just hoping the baby is healthy and has parts in all the right places.

We have not told our families - just really close friends who we knew would be able to keep the secret. And these friends have also gone through some pretty scary pregnancy/post-pregnancy situations, so we knew if God forbid anything were to happen, we would have a support network. And of course, I told you guys :-D :-* So when the time comes to tell our families and the world, I am thinking a Valentine's Day-themed announcement would be cute and fun (Well, it's my second choice - Beyonce just stole my first choice announcement pic idea, dammit)  :p
Here's hoping your H gets to see baby sparkleblob! :)
