Wedding Woes

Monday!

I am feeling better.  Not 100%, but way better than last week.  This cold is being really stubborn.  :D  Hopefully one more round of decongestants will knock it out.  I'm glad it didn't turn into something worse.

Weekend was a lot of resting.  DH went OOT Saturday to help BIL with some stuff at his new house and a euchre tournament.  My parents took DefConn Saturday night since they had my nephews.  I caught up on the TV show Imposters (new Bravo scripted show)...it's intriguing, but a little clunky at times.  I hope it evens out a bit.  Also speaking of TV, anyone watching Big, Little, Lies?  I loved ep one and I'm going to watch the second one this morning.

DH took last night off.  I'm going to take the afternoon off and we're going to get some running around done.

How was your weekend?

Re: Monday!

  • Weekend was good. I think the interview went well, but they didn't give me a timeline so now I wait.

The drive back sucked, I hit a pothole and blew out my tire, had to drive all over the city to find somewhere open Sunday morning to replace it and waiting for AAA to change the spare.

Then last night I broke a tooth. It had a cavity and I had a root canal scheduled for later in the month now I'm canceling classes and heading in for an emergency root canal. Awesome. I hate today.
  • OH NO! That's terrible @charlotte989875.    Go home and take a nap or have a drink (or both) after your root canal.  ((hugs))
  • Poor charlotte!  I hope your root canal goes well.

I have a pile of stuff I need to proof this morning.  I hate proofing.  I was tied up with pricing all last week, and that's done, so I really need to get on this.  And yet here I am.

Saturday was 100% kid stuff.  Took DS to swim.  From there, took Wooz to riding.  While we were there, her swim instructor texted to see if we could move her lesson, and it ended up being immediately after riding.  We were gone for like 5-1/2 hours.  By then, neither of us felt like cooking, so we drove to DH's and Wooz's favorite fish camp.  The line was out the door when we got there, but it moved fast, so we didn't end up waiting that long for a table.

Yesterday was a bit calmer.  New swim session, and DS is swimming on Sundays now.  So he had his last class of the previous session on Saturday, and his first of the new session yesterday.  That poor kid--he's making good progress, but whenever he's supposed to float, he looks like the damsel in distress tied to the train tracks.  DH took the Outback for new tires afterward while the kids and I played outside all afternoon.  I swear DS and I walked about a mile all around our neighborhood.
  • I don't mean to go grammar Nazi first thing on a Monday, but I was just copied on an email in which the author wrote "Customer XYZ needs parts flew out them."  Seriously?  Seriously-seriously?

The guy who wrote it is definitely not our sharpest crayon, but still.

Our marketing team has been downright fucking AWFUL about grammatical errors in the SUBJECT line of e-mails that go out to our client base (probably a million+ people who are English-speaking subscribers in North America).   It's face-palm central.  And in my position, I am the one to be all, "Yep, we're fucking morons. Sorry!"

@charlotte989875 That SUCKS! Glad the interview went well though! I hope you hear something soon.

@mrsconn23 glad you're feeling better. That DefConn story is absolutely hilarious!

    Morning all.

Y'all are not going to believe what went down at my office on Friday. I know I've mentioned on here that my boss has let my teammate and I go early a few times recently since we've been so slow. He always told us it was a reward for our hard work, etc.

Well. Mistress and another coworker got mad about it, started keeping track of that time, and went to my boss and reported my teammate and I for all of this "missed" work time. Instead of boss owning up and saying "I told them they could", he made us out to be slackers to mistress and other coworker to avoid mistress getting mad at him. Friday morning he pulled my teammate into his office to have a talk with her about all of this and said that he knows that the missed time was approved by him, but that upper management was upset about it and it looks bad on us with layoffs coming up. Are you F'ing kidding me?!?!?! So now, teammate and I might be on the chopping block, and boss won't stand up for us. He's letting it look like we've just skipped out on hours of work so he can save face. I am livid.

Keep in mind, mistress and the coworker that reported us are late every day, and they frequently leave early without getting permission. Mistress takes 2 to 2 1/2 hour long lunches almost daily. Soooo I'm keeping track of all that crap now too since apparently that's the only way to protect yourself here. We are salaried so we don't fill out any kind of time card. I started a password protected Excel spreadsheet when I got here. I have GOT to get out of this place.

The weekend was good. I got time with the twin babies Friday and Saturday night. It made me want a baby so bad.

ETA if it's possible to retain weight from stress, I'm definitely doing that.

  • Holy fuck @thefanciestbeckler!  That is some petty-ass bullshit.  Fuck your boss and his mistress.

Nail their asses to the wall.  ;)  Sucks that it's more work for you, but they deserve it.
  • @thefanciestbeckler, that is some serious bullshit.  What an asshole.  I know it's easy to say from where I am, but if you left (by choice or by layoff), it sounds like it would be for the best.  You don't need that mess.

I'm assuming your spreadsheet is backed up somewhere (Google Docs or whatever), just in case?  That is some high level fuckery.
  • Thanks @mrsconn23 :) If they're gonna play dirty, I can give it right back!

@Heffalump it would definitely be for the best. I'd prefer to have something lined up before I resign or lose my job, but honestly I think I'd be relieved either way. This stress is too much. I'm going to back that spreadsheet up for sure.

  • Oh, and in 100% office randomness:  I've been really good about cutting back on unnecessary snacking, especially at work.  Now they just put in new vending machines, and they take Apple Pay and they have Sour Patch Kids.

Normally, I'm like "Cuties are in season--if you want something sweet and sour, eat one of those."  But I <3<3<3 Sour Patch Kids.  And now that they take Apple Pay, I can't put myself on a budget by not keeping change at work.  I can theoretically buy out all the Sour Patch Kids.

    Hmmmmmm....
  • Glad you're feeling better, @mrsconn23!

@charlotte989875 that's great about your interview! But bummer about your tire and your tooth!!! I hope your root canal goes smoothly.

I got a bunch of stuff done on my To-Do list this weekend - got an oil change on Friday; made a lot of headway in the room that will be the nursery, and in the process I made some progress organizing our office; and cleaned the house top to bottom.

I finally got a silk pillowcase - I've been wanting to get one for a while because they are supposed to be so good for your hair and skin. It's supposed to take at least a week before I see any progress with my hair, but already my skin is less irritated and the dark circles under my eyes are diminished!

Friday night I wasn't feeling well so I finally started watching This Is Us. OMG. I am hooked. So good. I'm already on Episode 6!

Sunday H & I went to a birthday brunch for my best girlfriend. It was really fun and my friend's husband made the most amazing rotisserie ham and two quiches. And cinnamon pecan rolls. I told them I was going to move in this week just to eat the leftovers lol.
  • This weekend was a whirlwind.  (For those not in the know, drag re-creates "families", so the people who help get you into drag are moms/dads, and it all follows from there).  K's drag moms came in to perform for her benefit and OMG, I love them so much.  They are probably some of K's closest friends too, but I haven't gotten to spend too much time with them.  They were cracking me up back stage and they were great performers.  I have 8 days left before we are in competition.  Frankly, I can't wait for it all to be over.  i would like my life back, please.  And I do love drag, but I've had enough for awhile.  If she wins, I'm screwed.

Saturday, I spent recovering from Friday.  K had another show Saturday that I stayed in from.  K spent Sunday recovering from that.  It was my birthday and I cleaned up the apartment, watched the latest Star Trek (finally), ate White Cheddar Cheezits and drank a glass of wine.  It was quiet, peaceful, and perfect.

Oh, I did get into a quarrel with my mother.  Actually, she tried to quarrel with me and I kept refusing to engage.  It had to be driving her crazy; I've had enough therapy and conflict management/training to know where my "unhealthy" conflict habits come from (mother) and I know how to manage them (by no means am I perfect; I work on it and always will).  By the time we were finished, she couldn't figure out what she still had a right to be pissed at and I think she decided to be pissed about that.  Oh well, she'll get over it.  (Habits:  taking seriously unrelated issues and turning them into one big issue for a fight; not letting go of issues after resolution; and refusing to acknowledge apologies b/c you don't feel better right after said apology).
  • I'm exhausted and think I'm getting sick....again.  Blah!

Thursday night I worked a bridal show and went out for dinner/drinks after.  I'm not sure if I've mentioned it but BFF's boss wants to recruit me later this year to work for them.  It'd be a fun switch and in a few years when the city is redeveloped it'll be a cake sales job.  But on the other hand, it'll be a pay cut up front, and I've put 10 years into my job so I'm not sure what I want to do.  An industry change makes me feel like the last decade was for naught, but there really isn't another position in the state that I would consider unless it required travel, so we'll see.  Plus I just bid a HUGE RFQ so if I win that, I can't go anywhere until it's delivered or I'd forfeit money I worked my ass off for.  I'm a bit financially stuck since I make great money, even though I'm not sure I'll ever get to be a sales manager or trainer here.  Decisions, decisions.  At least I have time.

Saturday I worked a fundraiser for H's school - I was a 50/50 girl and we killed it.  We may have bribed people for beer but whatevs.  It was fun.  Last night we went to the Pistons game and although I didn't want to go, I'm glad I did.  We had a blast.

This week is our sales meeting and it's in a casino, so I get to take my stuffed up nose to a smoky building for the rest of the week - oh yay.

@charlotte989875 good luck at the dentist!

@thefanciestbeckler any chance you have any of this in writing?  I hope you plan on taking all of these notes to your states Labor Board.  None of this is legal.

  • @thefanciestbeckler that is some bullshit. I'm glad you're keeping records.

This weekend was okay. I spent almost all of last week at my bff's house while she was in town, and I didn't see SO until Saturday. We were supposed to go out with his sister and her bf, but plans fell through. Sunday was a lazy day, and besides going to lowe's we basically just watched movies all day. It was awesome and I wish today was a holiday so we could do it today, too.

I'm supposed to go hang out with my bff today again. She might be a little irritated at me. I noticed her infant wasn't getting enough oxygen (not in an immediate emergency way), so I told her she should take him to the pediatrician and she was like "he's fine." I started to get concerned a couple weeks ago when she sent me a picture of the baby and he had intercostal retractions, which babies should never have. Then this past week I spent every day with him and i noticed intermittent mottling on his legs, an intolerance for being laid down flat, and the preferred position of knees to chest. He grunts and his cry gets weak at different times of the day. I'm worried it's actually a cardiac issue, but there was only so much I could say. The doctor has already told her he has crazy allergies to pet dander but I hope she goes home and has them investigate a little further.

  • @kimmiinthemitten Unfortunately, I don't have any of the times my boss told us to leave early in writing. I never dreamed that would come back to bite me. You'd better believe that I'll be getting everything in writing from now on, though. TN is an at-will state, so an employer can fire or lay off people for any reason or no reason at all. Unless (general) you can prove discrimination based on sex, race, etc. there is nothing the Labor Board will do for you. Did some research on that :(

  • @charlotte989875, that sucks big time! I remember getting a canal done and then the temp cap on until the crown came in....then I went to Canada.  Bit on a wing, and the temp chipped!  A nice Canadian dentist helped me though, until I could get back into the states. I hate the temp to perm week(s).

@thefanciestbeckler, crazy bullshit right there!  My boss lets us out early - especially on Summer Fridays as well, and yeah, someone who needs us could realize we've gone home early but it usually doesn't happen.  If it did, I'm sure my boss would own up to it, but now your story scares me!

This weekend I did nothing.  I did need to clean my house, but I did so much nothing in fact, that I just booked a cleaner to come out and do a deep/spring cleaning on the 11th.   take that lazy ass.

DH and I watched The Santa Clarita Diet this weekend. I wanted to love it.  It's right up my alley.  It's cute and had some funny lines - but guys, I cannot get past Drew Barrymore's bad acting.  She's over exaggerated and annoying.  I'll probably watch season 2, because what else am I doing with my time (not cleaning my house, that's for sure!)?

Did anyone stay up to watch the "best motion picture" blunder live?  I fell asleep right before best actress/actor and movie. nuts!

  • @CharmedPam I work for a sleaze ball who will lie his way out of anything, so if your boss is a normal person I wouldn't worry too much. Lol. Our office is tiny, so all of this is about people getting mad that someone else got something they didn't get. I was wondering how Santa Clarita Diet was.. Glad I know not to waste my time on it. I'm not a huge Drew Barrymore fan anyways.

  • Bff had me watch 2 epsidoes of Santa Clarita diet with her on Saturday because it's "so funny," and I hated it. It was just so bad.

  • It gets funnier.  I didn't really laugh the first few.  I love Joel, her husband.  I just NEVER liked Drew.  Actually, in E.T.  she wasn't bad.

Same thing happened to me with Ghost Whisperer.  Right up my alley and great story line, but I don't like JLH either. Granted, she's better than Drew, but her acting is off putting.

  • @*Barbie* We don't have HR here. It's ridiculous. There's literally nobody that any of us can go to when we have issues. That pic of MI is gorgeous and Wolverine is so adorable!

  • Weekend was fine.  Ran a bunch of errands, bought a bunch of necessities, bought a bunch of non-necessities for vacation, had baseball evaluations for 6let.

This morning I took 6let for his ct scan.  His adenoids have definitely regrown into the ear canals.  He has almost no air in his ears just tons and tons of fluid.  He's scheduled for his second adenoid removal and his first set of tubes.  He's 8.  Tubes usually happen at 3!  Crazy thing is the adenoids can still grow back a third time!

I'm surviving; the nitrous ran out halfway through my procedure, and they were still working when the Novocain was started to wear out, but they gave me the good drugs so I'm going to take some hydrocodone and take a nap.

Thanks for all the good thoughts.

@thefanciestbeckler, that's crazy, how does that place actually function?!! And I don't think that's the painkillers talking.

ETA; home and watching some West Wing.

  • OMG @thefanciestbeckler!! My post must have posted when yours did - or else I was drafting it and somehow didn't see the unprofessional shit show that is unfolding at your office! That Mistress and your boss are making my blood boil on your behalf! Good for you for keeping tabs on The Mistress, though! Go get 'em!!!
  • @sparklepants41 thanks girl. It makes me feel better to be able to come on here and get feedback from sane people about this situation. WW is the best! I somehow didn't see your post until now either. I am SO glad you finally started watching This Is Us. It is the best show!! And satin/silk pillowcases are seriously the bomb. My hair is so much healthier after switching to one.

  • @thefanciestbeckler how do you wash your silk pillowcase? Do you have it drycleaned (that's what I do with silk dresses/shirts), or do you handwash it and then iron it? I'm trying to decide if I should get a 2nd one as a back-up for drycleaning/laundry day...
  • @thefanciestbeckler - that is some major bullshit at your job.  Glad you have some documentation regarding the Mistress and co-Irker.
@levioosa - hope your friend's baby checks out ok.  It's strange she's not more concerned.
@6fsn - When is 6let's surgery?  Here's all the positive T&Ps for a quick recovery and no re-growth!

While not anything compared to @thefanciestbeckler , there is something afoot at my job.  Wednesday late afternoon we were called into a hastily scheduled meeting and told that 1/2 of our group will now be under another supervisor.  My co-worker and I will stay with current supervisor (co-worker, supervisor and I all have same job roles) but will move to another office "for now".  Not necessarily a bad thing but we all have a feeling something else is coming so that makes weird vibe in the office.  New office is bigger and will have fewer people in it but my desk will be in plain view of supervisor and co-worker which will mean less time on TK.

Friday we had a blizzard.  We got about 11" of heavy wet snow.  There was no bus service so DH drove me in as soon as we were plowed out.  I was only an hour late to work.  His route was cancelled (he's a courier) so he got to stay home all day.  We stayed in Friday night and relaxed.

Saturday I tackled the laundry pile and then we went to a benefit.  The husband of a woman who works in my department was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and is terminal.  The benefit was huge and there was a great turnout.

Sunday we did church and then took my brother out to lunch for his birthday.  Mom was with us and we did some shopping afterwards.  Laid low last night and DH and I got into a spat which is always fun.  Things seem to be better this morning.

Also this weekend:  the wife of a former co-worker has been diagnosed with invasive bladder cancer - ugh.  Also, a friend got engaged - to a guy who has cheated on her 2x before so having all kinds of feelings about this.

  • @sparklepants41 Mine isn't real silk. I think it's satin. I wash and dry it with my sheets and I've never had a problem. Check the tag on yours before you try that though. Lol. Especially if it's real!
