So I'm not super religious or anything (raised Catholic, but not been practicing for years), but my friend was talking about giving up beer for lent and honestly, I drink too much beer (and spend WAY too much on it since I'm a craft snob), so I've joined her.  :D   I'll still have wine or tequila (because I'm not crazy  disciplined enough to give it all up), but I am hoping to reduce how much I drink overall...to prove I am an adult and capable of self-control, I guess? ;)

We had some cuh-razy weather last night.   There was a big tree branch on my front porch this morning and a bunch of smaller branches all over the yard.

I can't believe it's March already.  It's DefConn's bday month!  :D

@mrsconn23 - that is awesome!  I am similar to you - I drink way too much beer and love craft beers.  FI and I go to breweries and try out new beers all the time.  I have mostly given up beer until the end of March for our engagement pics.  Last time I gave it up for a month, I lost 8 pounds.

I also think we had the same crazy weather you did!  The wind was howling all night.

I have an appointment with the venue during lunch today but I also have a work assignment due so my timing is pretty terrible.  I am hoping to hear from the insurance today about whether they will cover the cost of a new setting for my ring because that is definitely not in the budget right now.

  • I was wondering if you guys got the crazy storms last night, too @mrsconn23. We have some small branches down as well and standing water everywhere. The storms even work H up last night, who sleeps through everything. The wind around here is no joke.

I'm back at the office today; feeling pretty miserable still, but I have classes and they both have midterms on Friday. Can't wait until Spring Break next week.
  • @mrsconn23  holy crap weather! Happy bday month for DefConn! :)

Trying to be positive. M has a lot of prospective options - 2 phone calls this morning alone! - and after talking to M's stepdad, we're likely calling a "work lawyer" because of some of the stuff.
He's not getting a severance because of some damn clause, and apparently he can't work with competition. I swear, if this fucks him over I will go ape shit on that damn place!

    *breaths*

Last night we went to my mum's place for dinner and so she could use my laptop for her skype interview. Seems like it went well, so I'm pretty hopeful. If all goes well, she's going to Canmore, Alberta from June 1st - Sept 4th. It's through her work and not a "money" job, more experience kinda deal.

It's gonna suck because in my whole life, this is legit longest we'll have been apart. lol But I'm hoping she gets it still, it'll be a good change.

Tonight isn't much. I need to find our stupid broom.
  • Glad everyone is okay at the Conn house.  My cousin posted that they had to go down to their basement last night.  Crazy weather, and it's headed our way.  We're supposed to go from 80 today to 62 tomorrow.

I have to get to the gym at lunch.  I've been slacking, and it's because I've had stuff to do (work, errands), but still.

Starting to stress about flights for my brother's wedding.  Tell me to settle down.  DH found cheap flights the other night--they weren't perfect, but they were cheap.  We hesitated, and they went back up.  Part of me is kicking myself, part of me says they weren't great flights anyway.  DH thinks we have plenty of time, but I'm anxious: it's high season in Europe, we can't really book hotels until we know exactly which days we'll arrive and depart, and 4-1/2 months isn't that much time.

Good luck!  Wooz brought home her Scholastic News for this week and was "educating" me about how much sugar is in various foods.  She only wanted water with dinner last night, and she declared that she is going to try to give up sweets for 40 days.  I think she's been chatting with her Catholic friends.  I hope you have better luck than I expect she'll have.  (She kept her vow until DS had a piece of king cake, and then she had to have one too.)

  • Side note - we did not have crazy storms like most of you but there is a lot of rain today, then it'll get friggen cold. *scowls*

I'm running on fumes this week. Work has been so busy lately, and I am tired from this weekend and hosting my sister's baby shower. That's a lot of work, yo.

Now, I'm getting ready for my spring break trip. I can't complain, though. I rather be busy, than bored.

  • Morning!

DH came home last night! Woohooooo! He brought me breakfast at work today, which I absolutely deserved because he woke me up at 5:45 for BCBC. Waaayyyy too early for me, but when you only see your spouse once or twice a month, you do what you have to do lol.

The crazy weather is supposed to hit here today. Schools in the area are closed. The weather man says we'll get strong storms at the least, with winds upwards of 60-70 mph. He's also talking about the possibility of tornadoes, which is really scary for a lot of people around here. We had an EF4 tornado hit 6 years ago that flattened almost an entire town. I'm hoping and praying that things don't end up being as bad as they're predicting.

  • Yay for your H being home @thefanciestbeckler! And yay for an interview @MissKittyDanger. Even if he gets the job I would still talk to the employment attorney; with all the past pay issues and no severance it might help to know what your options and rights are.

I taught for 30 minutes today then immediately wanted to take a nap. Not sure how I'm making it through today.
  • Oh, side note. If one more person asks me if I want to buy Plexus from them, I'm gonna scream. No offense if any of you ladies use it or sell it, but I am being constantly bombarded by random Facebook friends trying to get me to buy it when they hear that I'm trying to lose weight. How many ways can a girl say no? A lot. Take it from me.

What is Plexus? I haven't had those requests yet..

@thefanciestbeckler - I am bombarded by wraps.  All the time.  "Ask me about that crazy wrap thing."  I just....can't anymore.  It's not just weight loss products either.  I am constantly bombarded by all kinds of direct sales products on FB.  I am THISCLOSE to unfriending anyone who asks me again about lip products, leggings, or lockets (I was recently invited to a party called Lippies, Leggings and Lockets).

I totally get that it works for some people and that there are customers for all these products.  But it's not me.

It's a MLM company that sells some kind of dietary supplement that literally costs hundreds of dollars A MONTH. They claim that their products give you energy, help you burn fat, and assist with weight loss. I've even had someone try to convince me that it could help my back when it's hurting. They have all kinds of products, anywhere from pills to powder that goes in your water. If you tell a rep that you can't afford it, they try to get you to join their "team" and start selling it. They almost won't take no for an answer. Anybody I know who sells it posts about it on Facebook at least 5x a day if not more. It's ridiculous.

  • @Ro041 I totally feel your pain. It's getting to the point where I'm not even nice about it when I tell people no anymore. Being nice just gives them room to keep talking.

  • We had strong storms in the area yesterday afternoon and evening. We had some issues with our dog, but that usually arises when someone lights off fireworks or there is a storm. We haven't figured out how to calm him down yet, he tries to climb all over us.

Yeh he's calling today about it to see his options.

    And caffeine?
  • Woke up with a migraine that nothing has alleviated.  I'm tired to the point of tears, mostly mental exhaustion, some emotional.  I have to work again this weekend because my boss looked at the wrong schedule.  I'm pretty pissed.  Yesterday, instead of calling me to tell me he was changing my hours, he waited til I arrived at work and told me to "turn around, go home, come back at 4" the moment I walked in.   Not ten minutes ago, he also criticized my handwriting. "Your 's' doesn't have a hat.  What is this?  I can't even read it."  If that was a joke (the kind made to try to get the foot out of your mouth), I am so not in the mood.

My list of not-favorite people is long today.

So many people sell stuff on my fb, but never bombarded like that! People need to learn customer service skills.
I also use to sell online stuff {tea} and I never bombarded people via private msg, unless something came up that I knew they would actually love {ex: "I've been hunting for a gift for a teacher/daycare provider/etc etc"} then I would, but otherwise I figured if they're interested they'll msg me.
  • Unrelated: remember when Robert Ritchie said "Crime, boy, I don't know?"  Right now, I'm like "Only children, boy, I don't know."

Wooz's bestie's mom just texted me about birthday plans.  In a month and a half.  (Bestie is an Only.)  She had previously texted me asking if Wooz could sleep over and then they would take the girls to the amusement park the next day.  Okay, cool.  Now she just texted me and said that plans have gotten bigger, and Bestie is having a traditional birthday party at Monkey Joe's that Saturday, and then that night they have tickets to a minor league game and Bestie wants to take Wooz, and then Wooz may as well sleep over as originally planned because they still want to do the amusement park the next day.  !

Man, a couple of hours of birthday festivities--for my own kids--and I'm like "Can we go now?  Good."  They have an entire weekend planned, four separate events (if you include the sleepover which, as a mom who has hosted sleepovers, I definitely would).  I thought I was doing well to offer Wooz a party at the American Girl store.

Definitely caffeine, and the extra strength ibuprofen. Had to leave the good pain meds at home, because I'm pretty sure its frowned upon to teach while on narcotics.

Maybe I'm a super big baby, but root canals suck and I'm still in pain.

If you are, then I'm right there with you. I was sore for days after just getting a filling, so I can't even imagine having a root canal!

  • Hello WW!  Back from my 4-day weekend and am catching up on here.  Not that I went anywhere, just wasn't at work.  It was glorious.

@OliveOilsMom, congrats on little Sarah.  Such a cutie!  I'm glad she was so healthy, even being a month early.

@MissKittyDanger, isn't THAT some s**t!  First they don't pay M, then they lay him off.  Sounds like there is already a lot of interest in him on the job market!  I think (and hope) this will turn out to be such a blessing in disguise for him.  I hope they don't hold him to any b.s. about not working for a competitor.

I had a job try to do that to me years ago.  I worked for an employment agency, but actually for the company.  In my work contract it had some kind of non-compete clause.  Before I signed it, I SPECIFICALLY asked and made sure it did not include any of their clients.  I was told it did not, just their competitors.  Seven months later, I was fired for not making enough sales.  In my defense, nobody did.  I was the 4th person in 2 years in that position.  At any rate, I went to a job fair and was hired by one of their clients.  I had to swing back by the office to turn in an expense report and my previous manager made a big "show" about how I had breached their contract by taking a job with a client.  But she was going to "let it slide" and not bring it to the attention of their legal department.  Gee thanks.  How magnanimous of you b***h, smh.

@thefanciestbeckler, more work-related isn't THAT some s**t!  In my previous job, I learned the hard way to hoard e-mails sent to me and my responses to them.  There were a few occasions where I was able to defend myself from "you didn't do this" or "you didn't inform me of that" by pulling one of those babies out of my proverbial pocket.  Though I realize your and your coworker's boss letting you all go home early on some Fridays was only verbal.  Which is really too bad.  I love @Ro041's suggestion of taping him.  Another idea is, if he lets you all leave early in the future or anything else like that, send him an e-mail before you leave that says something like, "Thanks again for allowing Coworker A and I to leave early today, since things were slow.  Have a good weekend and I'll see you Monday."   And BCC it to a personal e-mail account.

Good stuff going on with our new duplex.  We have a tenant for our 2-bed unit moving in today.  Has already paid first month's and security.  The tenants for our 3-bed unit is moving in next Tues.  It really turned out amazing.  The 3-bed unit tenants originally signed a lease for the 2-bed.  But then asked if they could change it to the 3-bed.  Which we hadn't even put an ad up for yet, because we were finishing up the renovation.  We said, "Sure!"  Changed the lease and put the 2-bed back up for rent last Friday.  New 2-bed tenant came to see it Saturday.  We approved her application Monday.  Collected first, security and pulled the ad right back down!  I wish all my rental vacancies went that fast and smoothly, lol.

Catholic and sporting the ashes to prove it.  One of the things we talked about at ministry this morning was not just giving things up, but taking the money we would have spent on it and donating it.  We had already decided we weren't eating out lunches and the kids weren't going to buy.  I liked the idea of taking that one step further and donating it though.

I am a suburban stay at home mom.  If there is an MLM I probably know at least 3 people that sell it.  I have two product lines I do buy, but I never host or attend parties.  The same woman sells both things.  She places orders on the 1st and 15th of every month so I just buy then.
  • @MissKittyDanger congrats on M's interview! Sending you both good vibes!!

I'm up to my eyeballs in deadlines and my commute took over two hours this morning because a pedestrian was fatally struck on the expressway this morning causing everyone to take the back roads with me and jam them up.

I had to do a 24-hour test over the weekend because I am at risk for preeclampsia, and the results came back today. My protein is elevated which is concerning, so my OB, MFM specialist, and Primary Care Physician are going to continue to monitor it closely. Which may mean I have to take the test again. Ugh. I'm in extremely good hands - the hospital is one of the best in the country, but I'm still worried.
  • @sparklepants41  thanks and jeez! Curious, does this mean a pedestrian was trying to cross the expressway? :\ that just doesn't sound smart!

Vibes for no preeclampsia! But at least they caught the early stages if you do, so they can help avoid issues
