Re: Wednesday

  • @MissKittyDanger I do budget. Right now it's just a matter of getting some debts paid off. We will be golden after that happens.

Re: man cave. Our basement is DH's "man cave". Really it's just a place for him to play video games  without hogging the main tv. Lol. He actually has a pretty good eye for design so he decorated it himself. The town he's from hosted part of the Olympics in the 90's and he was given a bunch of flags from it. Those are framed and hanging up. He wants to get some airplane paraphernalia to hang up at some point too.
Ah fair enough, that was me for awhile. Check out Gail Vaz-Oxlade, she has some debt repayment ideas that I love the most :)

There's a lot of really neat airplane stuff my mum found in the most random places. Check HomeGoods for that - M is into planes also - and you may be in luck!

    I'll check her out!

Unfortunately, this is the one area where DH is fancier than me. He won't settle for something from HomeGoods. He wants stuff that came off of actual airplanes- which is SUPER expensive. He's fully aware that that won't be high on our priority list for a very long time, if ever. Lol

  • Just found out my company hasn't been taking out my dependent care FSA deduction like they were supposed to. The account is being funded on paper though so if I had a claim it would have been paid. Silly me for noticing and opening my mouth or I coulda been $2500 richer lol

    Flea markets or antique stores? Also second hand stores! I found a lot of old high end stuff at a second hand store. {like old silver that a grandmother would own}
  • Ladies, do any of your spouses have a "man cave" {blegh!} I hate calling it a man cave, but essentially that's what our basement will be. I call it the 'den' or 'entertainment room' but it will be where M plays video games, handles his firearms, does electronics, etc etc etc.
It's also where the washer/dryer are, so he'll be doing laundry.
hahahahahahahahahaha - oh hell no.  he's already moved furniture around for his fish tanks (I fixed that downstairs - they're all along one wall, now) - he doesn't get a "man cave." (especially not something i'm decorating for him.)

As for decor though, I want it more masculine. M's more outdoorsy but I don't want to do that stupid trend 'rustic' - but it works. But it's trendy. Guhhh .... decor ideas?
    {Note: M has said I can decorate if I want, he doesn't care as long as it's "not girly" I want to do stuff that's more 'him' oriented.}
Dark woods, and black/grey/burgundy or navy/grey/hunter green are some more "masculine" palettes. As for wall decor, how about sports memorabilia, photos of the outdoors, etc?

My H has been talking about turning our garage (which was built in 1928 and is too small to fit a car from today, unless it's a SmartCar or Mini Cooper lol) into a "man-cave" for a while now. It's electrified and would be easy for us to add heat. I collected license plates in HS and college and he's excited to hang those up in the garage as "wall decor." We have an old black leather couch in there now for days when we are grilling/smoking meat/cheese and want a comfy place to sit.

I like your idea of hanging the deer head in his cave and the deactivated guns as well.

Ahem...yet another reason MINI Coopers are the BEST.CARS.EVER.  Especially when they are convertibles.  You can tell, just by those statements, I have no children and live in a warm weather climate.

@MissKittyDanger, I was going to...jokingly...suggest a dear head.  I'm sorry that is actually an item you have to put up with, lol.

Those are definitely the kinds of places we will be looking whenever we get ready to buy the stuff he's wanting. We need some repairs and renovations done so the airplane stuff will definitely be taking a backseat for a while.

  • The tree removal guys are finally here!

And while being nosey and watching them I realized we actually had 3 trees go down!  There was a smaller pine under the large one plus the little oak.

RIP trees. Thanks for the shade while you lasted.

LMAO! It was my dad's :P So I grew up with it. If it was a new thing in my life, I think I'd feel differently.
  • @kimmiinthemitten  yay for taking hazard away, boo for 3 trees :(

But once DefConn is older, the bonus room is probably going to evolve itself into a bar/game room for entertaining.  We don't have a TV in there yet, but that's on our list (upgrading the living room TV and moving the current TV to the bonus room).
Here too.  Right now, it's the playroom, but we're already making plans to convert it to a home theater once the kids outgrow it.
  • @Heffalump I'm so sorry for your loss.

SO thinks he has a "man cave." It's really the office and I threw a fit about the Moroccan lamps and deer head because they were hideous and don't go with the decor at all. The man doesn't even hunt. He hit a bird with his car and was upset for a week. *eye roll*

I'm still a little freaked out about something that happened yesterday afternoon. I was home alone when someone came up to the outside door and rang the doorbell. Then they came up to the actual door and started to knock aggressively. I didn't have a good feeling, plus I don't answer the door anyways unless I know someone is coming so I waited until they walked off the porch to peak out the window. They did not look like it was a friendly call and they looked suspicious for sure. (And not the shitty Nextdoor kind of suspicious either). I was going to take their license plate down, but of course their SUV didn't have one. After they left I went outside and found a note on my screen door that had a few lovely words including "you're going to get fucked up." I'm really glad I didn't answer the door because I'm sure it would have been a "attack first, ask questions later" kind of deal. I had to have the note translated too, since it was in Spanish and my own translation (while actually spot on) seemed kind of ridiculous at first. Our house used to have a bunch of druggies living in the back, so I'm sure that's what it's related to. But it still freaked me out. So last night SO and I put one of our security cameras in. Ugh.

  • @levioosa that's terrifying, I'm so sorry.  I hope you filed a police report as well.

  • @levioosa that's a scary situation for sure!
  • @levioosa that's terrifying, I'm so sorry.  I hope you filed a police report as well.
I talked to my friend's husband before I started calling our police (who are terrible at responding anyways) and he said the incident wasn't strong enough for a report, they would just "document"
it happened. And he put document in quotations. It was kind of disheartening. I could try to call them
today and see if someone would come out, but I honestly doubt they will. We have like a quarter of the police we need for one of the biggest counties in the country.

  • @levioosa yikes! That is super scary! I'm glad you guys have a security camera - but hopefully it doesn't happen again!

I also can't believe the police said the incident wasn't strong enough for a report - if a threat written on a note isn't strong enough, I'd hate to see what would have to happen for the police to actually file a report!

I barely got the police to come out to file my identity theft report I needed back in august. They acted like it was the biggest inconvenience to them. Yeah, so was getting my identity stolen and thousands rang up on my name and credit.

  • that's scary @levioosa  I've always taken the position of letting someone know I'm home (like yell through the door "come back tomorrow") so they don't think the house is empty in case someone was looking to break in. But in this situation I'm glad you didn't
  • Omg @levioosa!!! That is terrifying!

  • @levioosa  that's terrifying! Sometimes it's always good to go with gut feeling. The police where you are is insane! They should take that more seriously :(
