    @short+sassy  that's the kind of neutral I want in my place! Love the greys, especially against stark white trim {we have dark wood, but even against your floor it looks great!}

Also ... your cat lacks tail? Photo proof!
  • @lyndausvi, good to see you again!  I know you've been busy since its the high season.  I'm glad you are really liking your job.  The pics you've posted and the way you describe things makes it sound like you all are living in a wintry fantasy.  Your upcoming trip sounds like a lot of fun.  I'm not a big fan of L.A. (San Diego is so much nicer) but, especially if you all are only going to be there for a few days, there is a lot to do and see.

You really touched a nerve with "we spend our vacations seeing them, they never come see us".  I bought my house SIX years ago.  My mom has never seen it in person, because she hasn't been out to visit in that time.  I'm with your H.  I realize I was the one who moved away and am open to visiting home more often than people come visit me.  But I'm done with it being a one-way street and no longer devote most of my vacation time and money to going home.

  • @lyndausvi where in Florida?  That would be a huge part of my decision, but I don't love Florida.

We're vacationing in Colorado next month; I can't wait!  I do get your H's frustrations though - my sis feels the same way about coming home and has the same problem with her best friend (who can never make it down to FL but always wants time when she's home.)
Yup. I feel the same way. I get that not many people want to come to Ohio (but also no one visited us in NC either, and we lived in the National Forest), but no one comes to visit us ever, but everyone wants all the time in the world when we are home. Except my sister, she came out like the second month we were here.

Thanks! I love everything against a stark white trim.  I tend to be more "crazy colors" in my personal home.  Not that I've had much opportunity.  We haven't repainted our interior yet, but I have plans for a heavy cream with a terra cotta red accent wall.

My cat is a Manx breed and was born without one.  About half of Manxes are either born without a tail or with just a stub tail.  If they are tailed, they'll often have a shorter than average tail.  This breed is most famous in and a symbol for the Isle of Man (off the coast of England).

Crazy cat fact.  Even tailed cat breeds will occasionally, naturally produce a no-tail offspring.  The "no tail" gene is actually dominant, but in large cat populations, it will get lost.  The suspicion is that a natural "no-tail" cat got stuck on the Isle of Man sometime during the 1890s.  Because there were suddenly a lot of cats being born without tails during that time.

I know that was a lot more info than you expected about my Nip's heritage, lol.  And then, to top it off, I'm bad cat mom and don't have any pics at work to upload of her.  But I will e-mail myself some tonight and upload tomorrow.  I'll be sure I have a good one with her lack of tail.  Though from the side so it's tasteful, lol.

Although cats use their tail a lot, they can move and jump just fine without one.  Even a cat used to having a tail will quickly learn to compensate without one if they lose it.

Nip will also sometimes flex the muscle that would normally be attached to her tail and the little bit of fur that is over that muscle will raise up.  It's funny.

This isn't my Nip, but who doesn't like kitten pics?  This is an interwebz pic of a Manx kitten:

OMG I have the same issue with my family!  My sister is the only one who comes to visit us every other year.  My mom only recently came out because I told her I wouldn't visit anymore until she made the effort to come here (it had been 5 years).  My grandma hasn't visited in over 6 years and has never seen the house that she gave me a down payment for.  Ah well...they all MUST come in Nov when we get married here.  BTW, we live in St. Louis which is actually a pretty cool place to visit so I don't get it!

  • @DrillSergeantCat  @short+sassy  CAN YOU GUYS PLEASE MAKE A GOOD ARGUMENT FOR GREY WALLS BECAUSE M DOESN'T WANT TO AND I LOVE THEM!!

    {also - side note - I am stealing Nip :) no tail babies!!! <3}

I know, it's extra hard for me because...of course, nobody ever wants to visit New Orleans\sarcasm.

It's a nice, light color that plays off any other colors you put in a room.  Or for your all's house...colours :).  It's also perfect for resale, though I know you all just bought your house.  Hence why the flipper for @DrillSergeantCat's house used it.

I don't think Nip would like living in Ottowa, lol.  We jokingly refer to her as "heaty-whore".  If there is a source of heat around, she is on top of it or inches away.

    FTFY ;)

My cats are same. I changed my comforters recently, but since there is no space in the laundry basket and I'm about to wash cats blanket, they have taken to nesting in the blanket :')

Also it's not cold in my house :) Nip would be fine lol M is also a source of heat, so Nip could snuggle him.

Sorry.   DH and I had a lunch date and ran some errands before he headed to work.

It's in Vero Beach. So east coast, central-ish.  Housing is SO much cheaper than here.  We could get a place for half what we pay here and at least a 1/3 again bigger.

I'm really digging this seasonal work thing though.  I loved my winter job.   I like my part-time summer gig that will turn into a full time summer thing this year.  Then I have my spring and fall off.   It's been working for us.

DH really likes it here too.  He has a great job with lots of flexibility.  It seems like the FL job would be pretty similar though.  Even with the COL being lower (and no state income tax), they would have to offer him more than 30% + moving expenses + decent benefits (CO club pays 100% of his medical and 80% of mine) + good PTO (DH has 6 weeks here) for us to move.

They are going to talk on Friday morning, so we will see.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

We have lived in St Thomas, NOLA, Indy and now mountains of Colorado.  My MIL has NEVER stepped foot in my house.   Before meeting me, DH as lived in CA (San Diego, Gilbert and Palm Springs), Turks and Caicos and Boulder, CO.  She again has NEVER visited him.  Not once.

Yeah, it's the one way street thing that bothers us.   I'm all for 80-20, us visiting them to them visiting us.  Heck, even 90-10.  But it's the entailment that we have to be the ones who goes to them that is frustrating.

That is such a shame!  If you all go back to the Islands at some point, can I pretend to be a relative and come visit, lol?

My mom and SF have come out a few times since I've moved here, but not in the last about 8 years.  My sister and her b/f (now H) came out once, but that was 15 years ago.

To be blunt, she was an amazing mom when I was growing up.  I'm very lucky there.  However, there has been some deep disappointments in our relationship once I was an adult.  I'll just leave it at that.  It may not have been my post (the one where the OP didn't want to invite her dad's SO to the wedding), but the PPs who pointed out that parents are people with faults also, helped me look at my relationship with my mom in a bit more forgiving light.

I bought myself a present since it went on sale, and they had an extra 25% off.

    This is outstanding.
  • @CharmedPam I'm not sure. It makes sense in my head that they should be required by law to post it somewhere, but like you, I don't know much about business law. I do know that it's annoying AF though. Lol.

@short+sassy you make a great point! I am SUPER glad that they didn't hire another one of mistress's family members. Thank you for pointing that out. I'll just be thankful for that :) also, love that paint color you use. It's perfect! DH and I are wanting to do something similar in our house. I hope everything works out with your tenants and their poor dogs :(

    Me too!
  • Work was shit today. A continuation of Monday's craziness, plus me making stupid mistakes all day. And I stayed late to boot.

Speaking of stupid mistakes, I was supposed to volunteer at the food bank. It's east of my office, but I got on the freeway heading west like I was going home. I managed to turn around, but then I got stuck in traffic. I ended up being almost half an hour late, but fortunately I wasn't the only one and they were really cool about it.

It was all worth it when I got home. The three of us made dinner together and listened to the Grateful Dead. Now I'm feeling a lot happier.

I showed now Hubs the other colors that went with the gray so it didn't look so boring!
