One day closer to Friday!  Yippee!

I read the Prudie letter about picking kids' names to DH, and he said, "what an asshole."  So we made a pact that when the time comes for us, we'd narrow it down by coming up with all the terrible nicknames we could possibly imagine for each name on our list until we found one that could be least troublesome (e.g. "Richard" is a prevalent name on both sides of our family, but I'd rather not run the risk of "Dick" being a nickname, even though it's legit, because kids can be cruel... And if we do land on "Richard," we CANNOT also name our daughter "Ophelia.").

So that was fun times.

I've been racking my brain for an anniversary gift for DH, and realized yesterday I have less than two weeks to find something "paper."  After striking out on Pinterest and Etsy, the wordnerd in me decided it will be fun to diagram a portion of our vows and turn it into a little piece of art we can hang in our bedroom.

It's probably really silly, one of those things that is better in theory than execution.  But DH seems to appreciate the things I make rather than buy, especially when there's a piece of me with it.

I have all the materials I'd need, so it's worth a shot.  If, you know, I can remember how to diagram a sentence...

Etf words.

That's a really cute gift idea!  I did bookends for Dh and he gave me a kindle (11 yes ago)
  • I love that idea @atomicblonde, but that also reminds me I need an anniversary gift for H soon.

Im blowing off a pointless meeting today and working a shift at the clinic. Protesters were arrested and cited Saturday for yelling into the windows so today should be interesting.
  • I love that gift idea! I hope you share the results. :)

I have been searching all over this city for decent bathroom accessories for a few days. I couldn't find anything I liked and willing to pay for. The problem being a. The taste in this country runs on the gaudy side and b. Our bathrooms are already all beige and white so all the natural stone ones I could find would just blend it. Finally, today I found a couple different ones I liked but I they were a little pricey so I was going to sleep on it. Until!! we went to this store I had seen online but always forgot about and never stumbled upon. It was awesome. TK won't let me post pictures but I got a very simple, white stone set but the Qtip holder is a hedgehog and the cotton ball holder is a bunny (the cotton balls poof out where his tail would be!) I love it. Now I can get the towels and bathmat I loved, throw a plant in there and be done with the guest room bath! I love them so much and it was all less than the other ones.

It's the little things in life. ;)

we are pretending to be fancy this week. Wine tasting tonight and symphony tomorrow. I want to get my makeup done but all the places I checked today seemed really expensive. I only have my wedding makeup to compare it to though.
What would you consider normal for a full face of makeup?
The cheapest I found was like 80-90ish? Places like MAC would do it for free if you spent like 200$. I want to look pretty but Damn! That is too much.
  • @atomicblonde that's a really cool idea! For our paper anniversary, I got H the poster from the Phish concert that took place on our actual wedding day and had it framed.

Back to work today (I was off yesterday for Patriot's Day). Saturday we went to my parents' house for Easter dinner part 1, which was nice and relaxing. Sunday we went to H's parents' house for Easter dinner part 2, which overall was nice, but my SIL was in an obnoxious mood so we peaced out right after eating. We got home around 4pm, so we took the puppy for a long walk. It was in the mid 80s, so we took her to the pond in our neighborhood for her first swim! The water was high and a bit choppy in the pond, so she was freaked out by the waves at first, but she finally hopped in briefly and pranced around. I can't wait to take her again. She seems like she'll be a great swimmer like our last pup.
  • @atomicblonde that is kind of what my H did. He found someone on Etsy that does word art and it used the lyrics of our first dance song and then had our names/anniversary and he put it in a frame.

For him I ordered virtual 5K race entries so we could run a race in Hawaii on our anniversary. The bibs were paper so it counts haha.
  • @missJeanLouise do you have Sephora there? VIB Rouge gets you a free makeover - and I believe otherwise they'll do it for a $50 product sale or a similar fee ($50 or so).

I'm in meetings all day. hooray?

i was dismissed from jury duty yesterday, so that was nice. i got out early enough to meet DK for lunch and then get a pedi. good times.

It's my Wednesday or Thursday depending on how you look at it - but either way I'm halfway through the work week!

I have a bunch of appointments this afternoon that I potentially didn't give my self enough time to hop around them all, but I'll figure it out.

Last night I went to a local running store and bought new training shoes for the 3 Day, socks were buy 4 get 1 free, and they recommend 6 pairs so I took advantage of that and got all dry fits, and then a water belt, because since I need it for the walk, I'd like to have it for Rocky Mountain National Park Saturday.  I spent over $250 $350 (simmer down self), was registered for their club, got my welcome email and it shows 0 points!  You get $20 for every $200 spent - I should be close to $40.  H thinks I should give it one more day before I call.  Harumph.

@atomicblonde show us when you're done!

  • @missJeanLouise do you have a beauty school nearby?  They may charge less.  I paid $85 for my wedding makeup.

  • @kimmiinthemitten I hadn't thought of that! I will have to look, thanks!

Okay, but can you  make a power point presentation of it?

@MissJeanLouise, I got my face done professionally once "just because" and I think it ran $35 YEARS ago at a local salon.  So maybe $50-$60 now? (Chicago area).  When I got it done, she didn't do anything I wouldn't have done so I was so not impressed and never got make up done again. Even for my own wedding!

PP's bring up a good point.  Department store make up counters do free applications with purchase.

Happy tax day, ya'll. DH had to pay 2 states and the feds :(  booo.  Doesn't McDonald's offer $29 cent cheeseburgers on tax day?  I need some tax breaks!

@missJeanLouise  MAC should be the same deal as Sephora - $50 for full makeup and that $50 is usually towards what they use. Again, that being said Sephora is $50 and you can do a gift card if you don't want anything that day.

Both places you have to pay for fake lashes if they use them, so keep that in mind.

edit: saw your post. I would double check the price because it SHOULD be $50 - are you saying makeup application or wedding makeup? That might be why they're jacking up price

re: lashes in the US - only standalone Sephoras are allowed to do lashes. J C Penney Sephoras aren't supposed to. I asked about the makeover perk the last time i was there (at a JCP) and that was what they told me - apparently they had recently gotten in trouble for doing lash applications there. One of the ladies said she was going to check with the manager on the policy because she was a licensed esthetician, so she may be allowed, even if the others weren't.

@CharmedPam and @MissKittyDanger I am just thinking things are done differently here. None of the makeup counters at the department stores do makeup application; foundation, eyes, lips, but there is a beauty salon in the department store which is where I found the cheapest price (actual price $70). MAC and Sephora both said free application with purchase of 500 AED (which is actually $137, I checked instead of guessing).

Eta: I am not that worried about it, I was just curious.
  • Our Internet is finally back up at work which is great since I was out last week, I didn't do payables (I do them on Tuesday) so I have a nice stack today. I also have a nice stack of deposits to process.

I have an interview at 11 with a local restaurant group. If hired, I'd be required to WFM 3 days a week. Oh darn... So cross your fingers for me, please.

H's house is finally done. Now I just need H to go mow so I can get it put on the market.

My male cat has been peeing in Norah's room. I caught him doing it last night. H has been cleaning the litter box, but apparently doing a piss poor (pun intended) job of it and Alvin is very picky about it. H said there was only a little poop in there, but he doesn't realize you have to get the pee out too. So now Norah's room smells like cat pee and I'll either have to get the carpet cleaned again or yank the carpet out entirely and put in wood. Would it be weird to have 2 of 3 bedrooms be carpet and the other one wood?
  • So the bread last night turned out great :) I feel like it's more of a fall thing because it was great with soup.
Because you have to melt garlic and butter together it gets really smooth. Our place also smelt like garlic all night lmao!

Tonight we're doing stuffed peppers. Since we were suppose to have it Saturday, the sausages are pre-cooked. I wish we had a 'slap chop' because it was a huge pain to cut them up.
    {sausage, rice and cheese in bell peppers and baked}
    I doubt we'll do a side tbh ...

M has a phone interview today. Really torn on how I feel because they weren't impressed with his resume but the self-test is what caught their eye.
Idk .... hopefully it'll be good. He's gotta follow up on a bunch of places this week anyways.

Tonight is mostly cleaning because our living room looks awful. With M doing BBQ'ing this weekend, he tracked dirt in. Plus the regular cat hair. *sigh*
  • Good morning!!

Other BIL is deploying today for 6 mos. I think he's going to Dubai.

Other than that, SSDD.  Half my house is muddling through allergies.  My kitchen counter looks like a pharmacy.

We don't have JCP in Canada {at least not where I am} so they're all stand-alone Sephoras here. That's so odd because I knew how to do lashes before I went to makeup schooling.

I find that so odd it's a crazy price! I've gotten my makeup done at both so often {bdays, wedding, for the hell of it, etc} and never had that issue.
  • @DrillSergeantCat  Angel is a picky litter box cat too. I have to change it daily and use bake soda to absorb the scent as well or else he poops on the floor in another friggen room {use to be same room before we moved}

I have to get a head shot taken for a picture for an award at my college and I'm considering getting my hair/makeup done for the picture because it will be hanging on the wall for a long time. But I'm afraid that I won't like it or it won't be any better than what I can do

I honestly wish he was pooping instead of peeing. Poop is so much easier to clean.
  • @missJeanLouise  can you just come to Canada and I'll do your makeup? :)
  • @CharmedPam The news just reported $6.00 margaritas at Chilis.

Texas Roadhouse has huge $6 margaritas for just their every day, normal price.  One of the things I love about that place, lol.

  • I would say I'm a dumbass, but really I'm just tired because I have two babies. My interview is tomorrow, not today.

ditto.  Our dog is the same.  When there's a thunderstorm, he can't go outside and apparently can't hold it in.  He pee's on our floors.  Poop is way better! LOL
