Tuesday!

Re: Tuesday!

  • @short+sassy I used to have a great WFH job doing data entry to create a database of legal documents. My goal was $75 a day and I usually did that in under 2 hours (man I miss that job) and I did wear lounge wear at all times. That's actually another bonus with this one, because where I work now I can wear jeans, leggings (IDC what anyone says they're pants), and pretty much whatever I want as long as it's not too dressy.

    Congrats on your job!
  • Happy Tuesday!

@atomicblonde, your gift idea is great!   DH and I were married in 07 and in 08 the Yankees played their last season at the old stadium.   I got him tickets to the last Friday game.   I still pat myself on the back as one of the better gifts I've given.

I'm still eating all the Easter candy and trying to keep cleaning.   The warmer weather last week meant that the ants are back.   Fuckers.  I keep wiping, spraying, and making sure surfaces have no food and they are trying to live here.   Ugh.

We'll be doing an overnight in NYC with our two kiddos and BIL, SIL and their 3.  I've been searching for quality places to eat with 5 kids from 11 mo to 6 years that aren't massive chains.

I really really want to get into my yard to garden.  DS is finally old enough that I can put on grubby clothes and let him wander a bit without fear that he'll run right into traffic.   One of these days our yard will look like we like it.

No jeans allowed at my current job (not even on Fridays).  Boo.  But it's pretty business casual, other than that.  I've heard that is relatively recent.  Before Katrina (about 10 years ago), people were expected to wear suits here.

My go-to outfits for still looking a bit dressed up, but with maximum comfort, are long skirts.  For me, they're more comfortable than nice pants or even khakis.  And they're long enough I don't have to wear pantyhose.

Pantyhose are the worst ever.  I'm sure whoever invented them is already dead, otherwise I would hunt them down and take them out myself.

  • I read the Prudie letter about picking kids' names to DH, and he said, "what an asshole."  So we made a pact that when the time comes for us, we'd narrow it down by coming up with all the terrible nicknames we could possibly imagine for each name on our list until we found one that could be least troublesome (e.g. "Richard" is a prevalent name on both sides of our family, but I'd rather not run the risk of "Dick" being a nickname, even though it's legit, because kids can be cruel... And if we do land on "Richard," we CANNOT also name our daughter "Ophelia.").

Okay, but can you  make a power point presentation of it?

@MissJeanLouise, I got my face done professionally once "just because" and I think it ran $35 YEARS ago at a local salon.  So maybe $50-$60 now? (Chicago area).  When I got it done, she didn't do anything I wouldn't have done so I was so not impressed and never got make up done again. Even for my own wedding!

PP's bring up a good point.  Department store make up counters do free applications with purchase.

Happy tax day, ya'll. DH had to pay 2 states and the feds :(  booo.  Doesn't McDonald's offer $29 cent cheeseburgers on tax day?  I need some tax breaks!

edit: answered my own questions: https://www.forbes.com/sites/kellyphillipserb/2017/04/17/2017-tax-day-specials-freebies-deals/#19d0de9137b0

Thanks for posting the tax deals though, as usual, there isn't much in my area.  Meh.  You got me excited with 29 cent cheeseburgers, but I see that is a no-go this year :(.  Sonic has them half price, but those are all a trek out to the 'burbs for me (20-30 minutes each way).  Not worth the drive.

I'm surprised Subway doesn't have anything.  They are usually good about those kind of special promos.

I'm trying to find a cheap and relaxing getaway for just DH and I.  If anyone is bored- leaving out of Columbus, up to 6 nights, drive or fly, under $2k.  I was trying to find a last minute all inclusive deal, but they are just adding up
  • Good luck with the job @DrillSergeantCat!!

@short+sassy, I've worked from home for almost 6 years now with very few days in the office (and they're getting fewer and farther between with more people getting the opportunity to WFH and online/dial-in training becoming more prevalent).  It's definitely a catch-22.  I don't always love it because it can be very isolating...Plus with DH working nights, I feel like I'm on my own with the kids a lot as well. But then I get e-mails from the office about lunch thieves and other drama that makes me happy to be home.

Clothes shopping is a *huge* dilemma too because I definitely have the whole, "I never see people." thought in the back of my mind, but when I want to look cute to go out, I have nothing to wear. I also have to tame my desire to buy all the yoga pants or leggings because I have a fuck-ton of athleisure and don't really need more (I do try to pare down stuff through donation before I buy more).
  • @6fsn check out Vacation Express if you like beach trips. We've used them 3 times and fly out of Cincy but it looks like they have Columbus too - not sure if those are non stop flights though.
  • @mrsconn23 @drillsergeantcat  I have dress pants that are basically leggings. They're nice enough to go out in, but comfy enough to be leggings. A-may-zing. I got mine at a store called "reitmans"

Also check out www.cheapcaribbean.com (seems very similar to Vacation Express). Looks like there are a bunch of all-inclusive deals for 4-6 nights that includes flights out of Columbus for <$2k.

I went over to Vacation Express and spent far too much time day-dreaming about a tropical vacation, lol.

Back to reality, my next vacation is probably a long weekend in Chicago, sometime in June.  Still fun!  I love Chicago and haven't been there in forever.

Thanks for the suggestions!  My beds all have clean sheets sitting in a pile and none of my laundry is folded, but I did give DH some stuff to stew on.  He's anti Mexico (and I'm not sad about that).  There are some great deals to punta cana though.
  • I've been doing online Tarot readings. I did a few different ones, and 2/3 spoke about "over indulgence" Sooooo I'm gonna take it a tad seriously and make sure we keep things under control.

Might be referencing me going out this weekend shopping. I have a list so I shouldn't be concerned.

I'm with you all.  There are great places to go in Mexico.  But Cancun and Cabo are not it.  I grew up fairly close to Baja.  I like that part of Mexico.  At least back then.  I took a cruise from NOLA that stopped in those two ports of call (Cancun and Cabo) and I was like, "What fresh hell is this?"  The tourist parts of those towns...which were pretty much only areas we had time to go to...looked like "Disney" versions of Mexico.

I had the same recreation to the Orleans Hotel in Las Vegas.  My b/f (at the time) had grown up in New Orleans and I had already been living there for about a year.  We pulled up in front of the hotel and both had a look of shock on our faces.  We were in stunned silence for about 30 seconds and then we started dying of laughter.  We couldn't stop laughing for a few minutes.  It was like someone had taken the stereotypes of the French Quarter and "Disney'ed" them up...until it really no longer resembled the actual place.

I'm sure that's true for all the other casinos that are a "theme" of a place.  It's just extra funny when it's a place you're very familiar with.

How do you feel about cruises? you could easily do a 3-5 nighter in an inside room out of FL to the Bahamas, Key West or to Cuba with flights for under $2k. Some things like drinks or shore excursions would be extra, but could probably still fit in the $2K budget depending on what you did.

    Do you guys have passports?

If no passports, Puerto Rico is an option.

Why anti-Mexico? Cozumel is nice, and probably have some all-inclusive options. I can't speak to Cancun, but with a nice all-inclusive, you may decide not to leave the resort. Puerto Vallarta is nice, but a longer flight. As long as you stay in the touristy areas, you should be ok.

Dreams and Secrets resorts are really nice all-inclusives. Secrets is adults only.  They are in Mexico, DR, and Costa Rica, I think.

If you have easy access to Southwest, they just started doing international flights in the last year or 2. You'd likely fly though Houston. They have some fairly inexpensive options to Costa Rica, Belize, and Jamaica.

@*barbie* I don't know why no Mexico he just doesn't want to. I'm halfway open to cruises and found some good deals at Costco.

Unrelated to any of that I threw out Boston as a suggestion
  • I like Riviera Maya/Playa Del Carmen part of Mexico, havent actually done Cancun.Although we just do the resort and beach mostly which is all I need

My H and I went to Boston for the first time in Sept.  We loved it!  It's a beautiful city.  A lot of the tourist stuff to do is related to history so, if you're not big history buffs, it may not have as much appeal.

Ahead of our trip, a lot of people told me the food in Boston was meh and overpriced.  But that was not our experience at all.  North End is an Italian neighborhood.  Ah-mazing food.  But pretty much everywhere we ate was great.  We stayed in Revere Beach.  On the map, it looks kind of far from downtown Boston.  It is not.  It was a lot cheaper to stay there and super convenient.  On the "T" (like a subway), it is only 20-30 minutes to downtown.  You don't even have to do any transfers.

  • Sending lots of good job vibes for everyone who needs them!

FW and I saw our couples counselor tonight and then went for German food after. Now we're home and doing laundry. I'm also procrastinating reading my book club book.

Tomorrow is my art journaling group. I haven't been there in months and I'm really psyched about it.

I 2nd everything.  Do you remember what restaurant you went to in the North end?  When we were in Salem and someone overheard us mention that our next stop was Boston.  They recommended this one Italian place, but told us to get a reservation.  In which we did.  But along our adventures, we figured it was to far and canceled.  Took a bus somewhere.  Took out a map, and we were actually REALLY close to it. We tried to get in again, but it was booked solid.  They told us the place next door was their sister location so we went there instead.  We sat at the bar, met up with some locals and talked to the bartenders.  We had a fantastic time. Everyone was so nice!  Nope, don't remember the name of either place though :(

Argh!  I really kick myself that I don't remember it.  Not only was the food some of the best Italian food I've ever had, but the restaurant was fairly slow and the owner and her daughter came over to chit chat with us.  We were the only ones in the restaurant by then and we all ended up getting in a long, fun conversation.  We left feeling like we'd just had homemade Italian Grandma food at a friend's house.

We also had Italian food at Sebastian's in Revere one night.  Not the best I've ever had, but very good.  The only reason I know that name is because it is the only Italian restaurant in Revere and I just googled it, lol.  My favorite place in Revere was Super Beef, lol.  It doesn't look like much from the outside.  It's just a take-out sandwich place.  But their sandwiches were huge, stuffed, and delicious.  My H and I would split a sandwich that was only $9 and be SO full.  That was the first place I ever tried giordana (I think I spelled that right).  So it's possible that amazing discovery colors my glowing opinion of them, lol.

We went to Salem during our trip also.

  • @6fsn - what do you and the mr. like to do on vacation? relax on beach with drinks? do different sports or athletic-ish activities (snorkel, scuba, zip lines, biking etc.) ? visit historical places/museums/science stuff? nature activities (wildlife viewing, hiking, etc.)?
Do you want to go somewhere warm or cold? when were you thinking of going (in a few weeks, months, etc?)

I just spend the last 20 minutes looking at google maps for this place!  Going back and forth with the friend I went with too.   I was like "argh, why so many Italian restaurants in one area!!?!?!"

DH and i are going again in October so I'll probably trip advisor the #1 place then :)

This one we're looking to relax a bit but not necessarily on a beach and some adventure stuff.  I'm not a huge history person but can appreciate it.

We'll be going in July. Dh has a passport I have an appointment Friday to renew mine

Before going, I had an online Boston friend tell me that pretty much anywhere in North End is going to have wonderful Italian food.

Unfortunately, I couldn't do a full sampling of all of Boston's fish and chips/lobster rolls/clam chowder.  Because that would take a delicious lifetime, lol.  But we had outstanding versions of all three at an Irish pub called the Black Rose.  We even went there twice.  It is a short walk from the Aquarium.

I'm a huge fan of Panza. Definitely try to go there in October! Also Modern Pastry is better than Mike's, FYI... And the best Mexican places are in the Seaport District, although Lolita's in the Back Bay is good too (I'm meeting up with a friend there tomorrow after work!!)

yes! when we got off the train, Black Rose was the first place we saw and went to it!  I got fish and chips and my friend got a lobster roll.  YUMMY!  Irish coffee's also good.  We went because it's my favorite flower.  Not a rose.  a BLACK rose is.

@sparklepants41, panza it is!  If we accidentally go to the North end again without knowing. LOL
