Help me shop!

DH was diagnosed with stage 2 adult diabetes in January.  He has been difficult to live with since then, but he has lost 40 pounds!  His clothes no longer fit.  He is being a super grouch and refuses to go shopping.  I want to buy him casual pants.  He prefers very light colors for summer.  Kohls is having a great sale!
Are pleated pants "in", or are they "old man style"?  He doesn't care, but I don't want to buy him something that screams "old fart".  What should I buy him?

Re: Help me shop!

  • Pleated pants scream "old man style" to me. Slimmer legs are in now, but they're not for everyone.

    Maybe one of these?

  • Agree with PP pleats aren't my favorite. Also they're a pain in the ass to keep properly pleated.
  • I thought so, too, but I always ask a younger person when thinking about style.  When he wears jeans, he could pass for one of the homeless, except for his haircut.  Honestly, sometimes I am embarrassed!  We can afford a new pair of pants!  Thanks, ladies!

  • Echoing PPs - I am also Team No Pleats. Flat-front pants are more slimming and have a more modern silhouette.
  • DOWN WITH PLEATS! Yes, they are "old man".

    Try these:

DH likes the D2 fit (straight leg). An in between fit, if you think the pants in the link above is too baggy, is the D3 (classic fit).

Also, whenever I hear "pleats" I think:

No pleats! Flat front all the way.

Not only are pleats "old", I do not think they are flattering at all. The create bulk where this is none.

I would go with a nice pair of chinos. Eddie Bauer has nice men's pants, though they are expensive. But sometimes you can get some good sales.
  • Somehow my husband ended up with pleated pants at some point in his life (we're in our 20s, so I really have no idea how this happened). I made him get rid of all of them and buy other pants. They were so unflattering!

My H was way unstylish before he met me. I'm not very fashionable at all, but definitely more than him! He had a pleated pair of dress pants. They'd been given to him and were both too big and too short, and I don't think he ever actually wore them, but for some reason kept them around. We got rid of them, thank goodness.

He also only owned a pair of brown dress shoes. I don't know why that's what he bought. Black definitely get more mileage, and I'm not sure he had anything in his closet he'd really wear brown with. I think he may have worn them with a black tux to a wedding pre me. He thought he was just going to wear those to our wedding, and I was like, dude, NO! We are getting you a pair of black to go with your black dress pants.
