Honeymoon help

Hi everyone!

I am hoping someone will be able to give me some suggestions. 

I am getting married this October 21st and we will leave for our honeymoon 2 days after the wedding. We live in Boston and will be leaving from Boston Logan Airport. 

We are looking for a destination with beautiful beaches and good food. We would like to Spend no more than $5,000 on flights and hotel. We want a more low-key, relaxing honeymoon with some activities (casino, shows, etc.). The issue I am having is;  its hurricane seasons everywhere I have been looking. 

I looked at St. Kitts, St. Thomas, Belize, and the Grand Cayman Islands, but its saying online that it is not very suggested as October is usually rainy in those area's. I have seen some people recommond Aruba in late October and others advise against it.

Other online suggestions are Hawaii, Bora Bora, Maldives. They all seem beautiful, but they are about 15-20 hour flights from Boston to arrive in those destinations.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to honeymoon in late October?

    What is your flight time limit? Unfortunately, October is hurricane season in the Caribbean, and you have to go much further afield to get warm weather. If 15 hours is too much, you aren't really going to get out of the Caribbean from Boston. 

    Have you also thought of doing a delayed honeymoon? I went to Costa Rica in January one year and it was amazing. You can take a couple days off after the wedding and go somewhere local to just chill out, and plan your big trip for a bit later. I know a lot of people that have done a 'latermoon' and really loved it, as it gave them something to look forward to after the wedding craziness died down.

    I've been to Hawaii and Bora Bora multiple times and am currently trying to piece together something for the Maldives. Unfortunately, $5000 is just not going to cut it for those destinations. The airfare alone to Bora Bora will run you almost at least $3K. Hawaii, maybe, if you limit yourself to a condo-type accommodation and one island. Bora Bora and the Maldives will also be super quiet- no casinos. 

    We get a lot of requests on here for recommendations for hurricane season. The best advice is to just plan the trip for where you want to go, even if it is the Caribbean, and purchase trip insurance. That way, you are covered if something does go wrong, but hurricanes, just like rain, are unpredictable. The location you choose could only be affected by rain for 1-2 days out of the ~5 month season.

    Yes! H & I live in Boston and got married on the South Shore in late October 2014. We went to Aruba for 12 days on our honeymoon and it was AMAZING. There was one rainstorm while we were there - which really only affected late afternoon through +/- midnight. We ended up using that time to get ready for dinner a little on the early side (and pre-gamed in our suite LOL) and then took a cab to a restaurant on a golf resort a little inland for a super romantic dinner. 

    We also went in 2015 for our first anniversary and had a similar rainstorm that only lasted about 6 hours and then everything was fine. 

    To those who say it rains every night - it doesn't. There can be a quick (10-minute) torrential downpour around noon here and there, but it's super short and the rainbows afterwards are some of the most gorgeous ones I have ever seen. I haven't been to Aruba any other time of year, but H & I are definitely looking forward to going back to celebrate our 4th anniversary!!!

    I was not in Aruba in October but I was there during hurricane season. Aruba has more of a desert climate, so as sparkle mentioned, you might get some rain, but it tends to be short bursts. I don't recall having any rain while we were there, but it may have been overnight.

    You really can't predict rain in the tropics anyway. I went to the Seychelles during dry season and it rained almost every day we were there. The locals said their wet season that year was mostly dry. The Caribbean is the same way- I went to Jamaica one time during rainy season and it rained A LOT, so I should not have been surprised. So, when I went back, I made sure it was during dry season. Well, it rained the whole time then, too.

    I am going to recommend a cruise.  A cruise ship travels to different destinations, usually sailing at night while you are sleeping.  If there is hurricane activity in one of your destination ports, the ship will simply go somewhere else where the hurricane isn't a problem.  This flexibility works well for hurricane season.
    A cruise ship has casinos, pools, bars, movies, live shows, and the food is included in your fare.  Most Caribbean cruises sail from Florida, usually Fort Lauderdale, so your airfare will be cheap.  Many itineraries include a stop at a the cruise line's private beach, which is a great day to relax and get sun.  
    Read the sticky I wrote about cruises at the top of this board.  I have cruised in the Caribbean three times during the month of October (Fares are cheaper in October!) and I have never had a problem with weather.  Do buy trip insurance!!!!!

    How about the Azores islands? They are islands off the coast of Portugal, and are a very quick flight from Boston. They are really lovely. Not really your typical resort vibe though.

    The southern coast of Spain is a popular European resort area.  Fly to Barcelona and take the train.  I think Aer Lingus has cheap flights from Boston to Europe.
