Wedding Woes

Happy Monday!

Yes, it's happy. The kids have vacation Bible school all week so I'm free 9-12 every day.

How was was the weekend?  Kinda low key for us. Got report cards and the only oops was m2's handwriting. This was not a shock.

Saturday am we had tball for Max then lunch with mil and sfil. They were confused by the avocado. Then mil thought she was being brave trying a black olive. It was a black bean. Saturday on we grilled out and had a fire complete with s'mores.

Sunday was church and fil and sMil came to take the kid she to a movie. I cleaned and cleared out some clothes. The big news is 6let got his soccer offer. Basically he made the varsity team!   I'm very proud of him, but the varsity parents can be assholes so we may be sitting all alone.

Re: Happy Monday!

  • Our weekend turned out pretty great.

Friday, we took DefConn to get his hair cut off.  It does look super cute.  And I didn't embarrass him and cry, LOL.  Friday night, I went to a concert with my friend.  We had a great time.

Saturday, DH took the kiddo to get his permit.  We headed north and went out on DH's co-worker's pontoon boat.  The kids had a blast.  Makes me want a boat a little bit, but we are a few years away from that.  :D  After we got back into town, we picked up Papa Murphy's and beer.  DH let the kiddo drive home from getting dinner and I can't say it didn't take a few years off my life.  ;)

Sunday, got to sleep in (finally) and made breakfast.  DH took the kiddo out for more driving and I went to the store with DefConn (and holy crap, we had no food).  The rest of the day was just hanging out and enjoying the fact that summer is creeping in.  ;)
  • Weekend was nice!   We got pizza Saturday night and ate dinner at the park by the beach.   Kiddos played on the playground after and then we went for ice cream and walked the local boardwalk.   It was pretty perfect.

Sunday we had church and then stayed low.   I worked while DH took Chiquita out to look at an open house with FIL and then DH cleaned my car of ALL.THE.CHEERIOS.

I'm currently trying to price a potential vacay with Chiquita.   With an age difference of nearly 4 years, it's sometimes tough to do things together.   I'm toying with taking her to Disney for 4 nights/ 3 days as a girl event.   It would be long enough to do Magic Kingdom, Epcot and maybe Animal Kingdom or another Magic Kingdom day and I think she'd flip in excitement.

@mrsconn23 defconns hair is sooooo cute.
  • I did not have a good weekend.  This year's event has been rife with drama and I've hit the end of my rope with it.  Apparently, having too much entertainment of a varying nature that people want to go to is a bad thing b/c OMG DO YOU KNOW IT'LL BE DARK?!?!11ELEVENTY!  Um...yes.  Are you turning into a pumpkin at 9pm?  And #sorrynotsorry but you're the parent and if you don't want your kid out that late that is your decision and not everything in this goddamn world revolves around your children.

Then I was accused of silencing someone...again.  I was so proud of the committee decision about carrying community flags, now I regret that we ever did them.  I just want to get rid of them all after 2 years of this noise.  People are so damn selfish and wretched.  "No" doesn't equal erasure of silencing especially after I explained the whys of a decision to you.

Then I ran 2 volunteer orientations that had 25% turnout.  I'm not pissed about that, b/c....that's normal.  I don't understand taking all the time to sign up to help with someone and then just not showing up.  That's what I'm pissed about.  You are literally wasting my time on this when you do that.

I'm re-examining my commitment to this after this year's pride event.

Other than that, I didn't do much this weekend.
  • @6fsn I don't want to make fun of your mil because a. It is kind of cute and b. I don't know her. Is she just not an adventurous eater or what?
OMG I love kittens! What a cutie!

@mrsconn23 good luck with the Kiddo and driving. Boats are so appealing when they are someone else's, lol.

@banana468 a girls trip sounds so nice. I would have loved to be able to do that with my mom when I was little.

our weekend was good. Low key because we are too broke to do anything. Which is kind of how the rest of the year is going to be.
  • Congrats to 6let, @6fsn!!!

@VarunaTT I'm sorry about your weekend - don't let the complainers and assholes get you down.

@mrsconn23 congrats on the kiddo getting his permit! If I'm ever in your neck of the woods I will be sure to stay off the sidewalks lol  :D

@banana468 your girls trip sounds like so much fun! Your daughter will treasure those memories :)

This weekend was busier than I expected it would be. Had a hair appointment on Saturday, then went to Target to get a bunch of bins and drawer organizers for the nursery, and then H & I went to my parents' house for a birthday celebration for my dad. My mom made cheesecake - she makes the best cheesecake ever. I begged her for the recipe, so hopefully she sends it soon!!!

Then yesterday H & I had a relaxing morning sitting on the deck enjoying the sun. Once the afternoon rolled around it got super overcast so I tackled organizing the nursery and it's about 80% ready!!!! We just have to hang up some artwork and I need to paint and assemble her bookshelves and it will be done!!

Today it's super rainy (blah). But I have no meetings (hooray!), which means I can make a workplan for the summer interns who are in orientation today. This is the first year our department will have three dedicated interns for the entire summer - which is seriously amazing. I have a project planned for each of them that helps us tackle our backlog of work, but also will be something each intern will be able to add to their professional portfolio.
  • I worked on the floor Friday and Saturday. It was...interesting. I'm definitely not making this place a forever work home. But it's a job and it's close by, so I'm going to suck it up for the time being. This week I have class W-F and then I'm back on the floor again next Monday. I spent yesterday recovering and today I plan on studying and cleaning the house since apparently it becomes a hot mess when I don't clean it once a week. I had to wake up and drive SO to work this morning, which just felt mean, but at least it's done.

  • June 17.  Part of me thinks it can't come fast enough, the other part needs time to slow down.
  • Thanks for the words of encouragement!  I haven't been to Disney in 20 years and I think I'm for more "into" it than DH.    I am a big kid that way.
  • @6fsn  cats ....lol

    @banana468  whooo! Cheerio free car!

@VarunaTT gotta love people who expect the world to change because of their kid. No ma'am, you change your life ... not everyone will adhere to it.

Friday I was so exhausted that I opted to take a nap when we got home, and before people came over.
    They stayed until like 1am

Saturday I was up relatively early because cats .... M and I went to our long awaited date. Crepes in the morning, then went to see Guardians 2. M wasn't impressed. I loved because baby Groot lmfao! He got it was part of the story line, but in comparison he preferred the first.
Afterwards we went to see "Aeroforce" {Aerosmith cover band} with my mum, her friend Chris and his bf Mike.
FOUND OUT THAT CHRIS AND MIKE ARE ENGAGED AND WE ARE SO EXCITED!

    Also ... M and Mike are like new bffs because they're both the same weird type of nerd lmao <3 Chris was showing how some of the kindergartners act. So funny! {he's a substitute teacher}

Got home super late, and Sunday I woke up and basically took a tylenol and went back to bed. I knew these late nights would catch up to me and it finally did.
Slept for a few hours while M was at the range with his brother. He came home, I was up for a bit, opted out of going to his grandparents so I could go back to bed. Slept for a few more hours and felt more refreshed.

Ended up watching "One Love Manchester" - did anyone else watch? I liked it. Ariana Grande almost broke into tears a few times, but I don't doubt it.
The show ended up raising 12 million for those affected between Manchester and some was gonna go to London also.
  • Weekend was good. We went and celebrated closing H's house with a big pitcher of margaritas and enjoyed them on the deck overlooking the lake. We, fortunately, had plans for most of Saturday because the home inspector was 45 minutes late to inspect my house, but didn't bother to call and let anyone know. Then, broke my garage door opener. When my realtor asked if something happened the other realtor said, "It worked fine on the first attempt, but it stopped working on the second. I think the motor died. We just assumed the seller knew." Ummm, excuse me, but WTF? How would I know if it happened while I WASN'T THERE???

Anyway, we went shopping for the kiddos, went to a garage sale of a high school friend of H's, breakfast with MIL, saw Wonder Woman, and I feel like I'm forgetting stuff, but we were out of the house most of the day.

Yesterday, we went to the Peace, Love & Goodwill festival. The festival itself was okay, but the botanical gardens has a couple splash pads so we let Mouse play in one. He was gleeful! PG slept like garbage last night. I'm wondering if it's the stuff I'm taking to increase my milk. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
  • Side note: M's buddy's older sister had her baby - 12 days late, girl, 8lbs. Adeline. Such a cutie! My friend {who is dating M's friend} sent me a photo <3 M and I died a little lmao
  • I've been really tired lately and the weekend was a lot of recovery.  Yesterday was really bad.  I woke up at 9:30ish.  Took a nap from 1:30-3:00.  Another one from 5:30-6:30.  And still went to bed at 10:00.

I felt really sore all day on Sunday also.  That's been happening a lot lately and I told my H we need a new mattress and it has hit a critical mass point.  But we're upgrading from a queen to a CA king, so that involves figuring out how to re-arrange our bedroom.  That's the real challenge.  At least I'm hoping a new mattress will improve the aches and pains.

On Saturday, we had friends from MS come over.  It's always a lot of fun to hang out with them, though "food" ended up being a big fail.  We went to a new BBQ place that has great reviews.  Some of the items were really good, but most was mediocre, at best.  None of us were impressed.

Then we went to a gelato/crepe place that also had great reviews.  Horrible experience!  Insanely expensive.  Black coffee was $3, and NO refills.  Mmm-kay.  We're guessing it was about $15 for a small scoop of gelato on top of a crepe.  But they don't list their prices so, unfortunately, it was just a nasty surprise at the checkout.  The service was VERY slow.  By the time they served my dessert, everyone else was done eating.  And gave me the wrong item, so they had to remake it.  No apology whatsoever, just exasperation with ME because THEY screwed up...and I had the nerve to want them to fix it.  Wow.

For today and tomorrow, I should be nicely busy at work.  I have month-end reports to prepare.

@missJeanLouise My MIL is a special mix of dumb and unadventurous.  My "strange" food confuses them often.  I had to explain tortellini.

In my single days, I went on a date and we met at an Italian restaurant.  He didn't know what half the items were, including lasagna!  He was a nice enough guy, but that was our one and only date.  I just couldn't see being compatible with someone who had lived that sheltered of a life (the food wasn't the only thing).

  • @short+sassy  your Sunday was like mine. lol #naplife
  • @varunaTT I'm sorry this years planning has been such a menace.  Just remember, you don't do this for the pejorative 'them,' you do it for the people who come and enjoy themselves.  Metro Detroit had two prides this weekend and from what I'm seeing and hearing from friends they were a huge success and I know how much it means to them to have a place to bring their kids and celebrate and just be.  Especially in today's climate.

Our weekend was packed and I need more time.  Friday I worked then had a girls night.  My heart breaks for my girlfriend in an unhappy marriage.  She has two kids and he's awful and she doesn't have the money to leave and her mom told her she wasn't welcome to stay there either.

Saturday we gardened - all day.  We decided to hire someone to clean the house and let me tell you, that was the best decision ever.  H worked in the yard starting at 9, I started at 12 because I was shopping, and we weren't done until 8.  The veggies are in, the back is weeded and there is mulch in the front.  Now I just need the landscaper to call about the front bed!

After that, I was up until 11 pre-cooking for MIL's retirement brunch.  But we had a great time with her family on Sunday.  It was relaxed and everyone enjoyed themselves, and I didn't give anyone food poisoning with my quiches:).  Mostly, MIL was great; afterall it was a party all about her!  Afterwards, H and I finished off the mimosa pitchers on the deck.

Today I'm WFH and have to get the smell of dog urine out of my car from moving the pup we watched home.  Eew.

  • @kimmiinthemitten a friend of mine is trying to get the smell of urine out of her oven. Apparently, they had overnight guests and their child was sleepwalking and somehow managed to pee in the oven.

OMG! How does one manage to pee in an oven whilst sleepwalking???

Also, am I the only one who is now picturing that scene from Stepbrothers?

Maybe, in his sleep, he opened the oven door...thinking he was lifting the toilet top?  It's "opposite" motions, but kind of the same idea.

My H has a funny story like that.  When he was about 4-5 years old, he was sleep walking.  He went into the living room.  Lifted up one of the couch cushion seats.  And peed on the couch.

I can't imagine. Is she a strictly meat and potatoes type?

I assume that's how it happened. My pregnant friend has spent the entire weekend trying to get the smell out.

She's strictly prepared foods. Her idea of making chili is hamburger and v8 and a can of chili beans.  I've stopped trying to cook for them and we just preapprove every restaurant.

I love our intern - he's sitting in the conference room 5+ minutes ahead of the meeting start time. This place runs 5 min late for everything.  Poor guy. (I feel his pain because I've always been an early person until I realized how this place works)
